    Design And Development Of Boost A Converter Using Planar Inductor For Dual Supply Automotive System

    Today, innovation in electronic automobile components has resulted in the need for higher voltage power supplies. In future automotive vehicles will have 36V operating system. In order to convert to 36V operating system, a 14V/42V dual power supply design is currently being tested and implemented in electric and hybrid vehicles. In future all electrical and diesel vehicle components will be using 42V electronic components ( bulbs, alarms, radio, ICU etc). Boost converter 14V step up to 42V will be an essential component in all vehicles. This work comprises of designing an efficient boost converter which can be easily manufactured and will work for dual supply electrical vehicle as well as diesel vehicle. Current available electric vehicle converters are either buck or bidirectional type. Various topologies have been used in electric vehicle converters. In the early days, auto-transformer topology was common, followed by toroidal inductor which became popular. Currently E-I planar core with spiral PCB inductor are being gradually applied in industry. Jumpstart post embedded in the converter is another key area of electric vehicle converters with dual power supply being studied. The scopes of this research are to evaluate and experiment ideas before building and testing a design with auxiliary start (cracking) aid boost converter that would be compatible the 14V/42V power net. In this research dual supply vehicle boost converter prototype designs were experimented. The work consists of design study of CCM DC-DC Boost Converter with E-I Planar core spiral PCB inductor using a SMT UCC38C43D PWM chip controller. The experimental results are obtained using the Planar spiral inductor DC-DC boost converter, designed to operate in CCM for 120W with an efficient of 85% and output voltage ripple of 5%

    PAOD: a predictive approach for optimization of design in FinFET/SRAM

    The evolutions in the modern memory units are comeup with FinFET/SRAM which can be utilized over high scaled computing units and in other devices. Some of the recent systems were surveyed through which it is known that existing systems lags with improving the performance and optimization of FinFET/SRAM design. Thus, the paper introduces an optimized model based on Search Optimization mechanism that uses Predictive Approach to optimize the design structure of FinFET/SRAM (PAOD). Using this can achieve significant fault tolerance under dynamic cumpting devices and applications. The model uses mathematical methodology which helps to attain less computational time and significant output even at more simulation iteration. This POAD is cost effective as it provides better convergence of FinFET/SRAM design than recursive design

    Diode Laser - A Novel Therapeutic Approach in the Treatment of Chronic Periodontitis in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus Patients: A Prospective Randomized Controlled Clinical Trial

    Introduction: Maturity-onset diabetes mellitus affecting the elderly population is marked by insulin resistance and decreased insulin production. The relationship between periodontitis and diabetes is bidirectional. Type 2 diabetic patients are more prone to chronic periodontitis (CP) and severe periodontitis affects the glycemic control in such patients. Recently, dental diode laser has become an effective tool in controlling CP. To date, very few studies have been conducted to check the efficacy of diode laser in control of periodontal destruction in type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM2) patients. Hence, the need of the study was to evaluate whether diode laser helps improvement of periodontal outcome and reduction in anaerobic bacteria in elderly diabetic patients with CP.Methods: Forty DM2 patients with CP were randomized into group A (control): scaling and root planing (SRP) only and group B (test): SRP followed by soft tissue dental diode laser (808 nm) application. Four patients (2 in each group) were lost during follow up. Clinical parameters, plaque samples and glycated hemoglobin levels were evaluated at both baseline and 90 days post-treatment.Results: Improvement in clinical, microbiological and glycemic parameters were noted in the group that received SRP as well as SRP + LANAP (laser-assisted new attachment procedure). The reductions in clinical parameters were statistically significant after 3 months (P < 0.001). The microbial analysis of plaque samples for Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans (Aa) and Porphyromonas gingivalis (Pg) decreased significantly after 3 months in group B than in group A. Glycated hemoglobin level (HbA1c) decreased significantly after 90 days in both the groups (P < 0.001) with more reduction in the SRP+LANAP group (6.49%) in comparison to SRP alone (16.25% vs. 9.76%). However, on the intergroup comparison, the difference in HbA1c reduction was nonsignificant.Conclusion: Laser as an adjunct to SRP is an effective procedure for improving clinical and microbiological parameters in maturity onset diabetes mellitus patients with CP. Also, there was a better improvement in glycemic control in the test group compared to control group after 3 months. Hence, medically compromised patients like DM2 with CP with delayed wound healing can effectively be treated by laser as an adjunct to nonsurgical periodontal therapy for better results

    Use of over the counter drugs in urban and rural populations of Mandya district: a cross-sectional study

    Background: Over-the-counter (OTC) drugs are medicines which are sold directly to a consumer without a prescription. There is a big potential for misuse and abuse of such products. Over the counter (OTC) drugs are meant for self-medication and are of proved efficacy and safety. Their improper use and unable to follow the precautions due to lack of knowledge of their side effects and interactions could lead to serious complications, especially in children and elderly.Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted using a pre-tested & semi-structured questionnaire. A total of 400 urban and 400 rural persons were interviewed for this study. 100 persons were interviewed in Mandya city and 50 each from the city in each of the 6 taluks. Data was entered in Microsoft Excel software and was analysed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) software. Chi-square test was used to calculate the difference in use among the urban and rural OTC drug users.Results: A total of 800 persons were interviewed regarding their use of OTC drugs, among them 400 were urban residents and 400 were rural residents of Mandya district. Of the 400 urban persons and rural persons, 310 respondents (77.50%) and 273 respondents (68.25%) reported the use of OTC in the recall period of the last 6 months respectively. The difference in the usage of OTC by urban adults was significantly more than that of rural adults.Conclusions: The proportion of the respondents who had practiced self-medication with OTC drugs is very high. The prevalence of self-medication with OTC drugs in our study was found to be 72.87% and is nearly same in both rural and urban population. As this study was conducted in a limited population in Mandya district, generalization of the study to all the population cannot be done, and it requires large study in all districts of Karnataka with adequate sampling methods
