Stability of the magnetic Couette-Taylor flow
Abstract.: In this paper we consider the magnetic Couette-Taylor problem, that is, a conducting fluid between two infinite rotating cylinders, subject to a magnetic field parallel to the rotation axis. This configuration admits an equilibrium solution of the form It is shown that this equilibrium is Ljapounov stable under small perturbations in where provided that the parameters a, b, α, ÎČ are small. The methods of proof are a combination of an energy method, based on Bloch space analysis and small data technique

Syndecan-4 regulates cell-surface trafficking and biological activity of transglutaminase-2
Transglutaminase-2 (TG2) is a Ca2+-dependent crosslinking enzyme involved in the post-translational modification of proteins via the formation of NΔ(Îł-glutamyl)lysine isodipeptides. TG2 is externalised in the extracellular matrix (ECM) through an unconventional and not fully understood pathway. Under normal conditions, TG2 modulates cell adhesion, proliferation and tissue repair. Under continuous cell insult higher expression and elevated extracellular trafficking of TG2 contribute to the pathogenesis of tissue scarring. TG2 is known to have affinity for heparin, and in a previous study cell-surface heparan sulphate (HS) has been implicated in extracellular TG2 mediated RGD-independent cell adhesion, a non-enzymatic process independent from the α5ÎČ1 integrin-binding to the RGD domain on FN (Verderio et al., 2003). Hence HS proteoglycan (HSPG) could act as cell surface co-receptor for FNbound TG2 or contribute to the regulation of extracellular TG2 activity in cell adhesion and tissue repair
Social indicators for businessesâ circular economy: multi-faceted analysis of employment as an indicator for sustainability reporting
In recent years, the introduction of the circular economyâs principles at the micro level is receiving attention in different domains of business literature. Although several studies have focused on the environmental or economic impacts of the adoption of the circular economy at a micro level, detailed analysis of the social aspects of the circular economy in businesses is necessary. From a triple bottom line perspective, social dimensions of the circular economy are one of the three pillars for sustainability accounting and reporting and must be considered in the relationship between firms and their stakeholders. Thus, the main objective of this study is to reflect on the social impact of the business circular economy at the micro level by analysing job generation. As one of this studyâs contributions to the literature, it approaches the definition of different indicators inherent to different aspects of the employment in a circular economy framework. To reflect on the social metrics related to employment in circular businesses, this article summarises the results of semi-structured interviews collected in a regional case study in Spain and offers a schematic view of the multi-faceted analysis conducted
Characterisation ofPseudomonas spp. isolated from foods
PutativePseudomonas spp. (102 isolates) from different foods were first characterised by API 20NE and then tested for some enzymatic activities (lipase and lecithinase production, starch hydrolysis and proteolytic activity). However subsequent molecular tests did not always confirm the results obtained, thus highlighting the limits of API 20NE. Instead RFLP ITS1 and the sequencing of 16S rRNA gene grouped the isolates into 6 clusters:Pseudomonas fluorescens (cluster I),Pseudomonas fragi (duster II and V)Pseudomonas migulae (cluster III),Pseudomonas aeruginosa (cluster IV) andPseudomonas chicorii (cluster VI). The pectinolytic activity was typical of species isolated from vegetable products, especiallyPseudomonas fluorescens. InsteadPseudomonas fragi, predominantly isolated from meat was characterised by proteolytic and lipolytic activities

Syndecan-4 knockout leads to reduced extracellular transglutaminase-2 and protects against tubulointerstitial fibrosis
Transglutaminase type 2 (TG2) is an extracellular matrix crosslinking enzyme with a pivotal role in kidney fibrosis. The interaction of TG2 with the heparan sulfate proteoglycan syndecan-4 (Sdc4) regulates the cell surface trafficking, localization, and activity of TG2 in vitro but remains unstudied in vivo. We tested the hypothesis that Sdc4 is required for cell surface targeting of TG2 and the development of kidney fibrosis in CKD. Wild-type and Sdc4-null mice were subjected to unilateral ureteric obstruction and aristolochic acid nephropathy (AAN) as experimental models of kidney fibrosis. Analysis of renal scarring by Masson trichrome staining, kidney hydroxyproline levels, and collagen immunofluorescence demonstrated progressive fibrosis associated with increases in extracellular TG2 and TG activity in the tubulointerstitium in both models. Knockout of Sdc-4 reduced these effects and prevented AAN-induced increases in total and active TGF-b1. In wild-type mice subjected to AAN, extracellular TG2 colocalized with Sdc4 in the tubular interstitium and basement membrane, where TG2 also colocalized with heparan sulfate chains. Heparitinase I, which selectively cleaves heparan sulfate, completely abolished extracellular TG2 in normal and diseased kidney sections. In conclusion, the lack of Sdc4 heparan sulfate chains in the kidneys of Sdc4-null mice abrogates injury-induced externalization of TG2, thereby preventing profibrotic crosslinking of extracellular matrix and recruitment of large latent TGF-b1. This finding suggests that targeting the TG2- Sdc4 interaction may provide a specific interventional strategy for the treatment of CKD
Comparing hierarchies of total functionals
In this paper we consider two hierarchies of hereditarily total and
continuous functionals over the reals based on one extensional and one
intensional representation of real numbers, and we discuss under which
asumptions these hierarchies coincide. This coincidense problem is equivalent
to a statement about the topology of the Kleene-Kreisel continuous functionals.
As a tool of independent interest, we show that the Kleene-Kreisel functionals
may be embedded into both these hierarchies.Comment: 28 page
Agate Outcomes Analysis: Using the Foundation for SATS
This study explored the policy implications of a specific jointly funded government-industry-academic research and development initiative on future planning. The researcher sought to uncover what trends or patterns of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Advanced General Aviation Transport Experiments (AGATE) had a positive affect on the outcomes of the consortium. By identifying these trends, the research may be able to help foster a more practical transition to follow-on programs. AGATE focused on developing innovative cockpit technologies that highlighted safety, affordability, and ease-of-use based in such areas as flight systems and integrated design and manufacturing. A quantitative analytic methodological approach encompassing qualitative data analysis software and the policy research construct was applied to analyze the organizational policy trends through the application of lessons learned from the AGATE program with reference to the current NASA program-the Small Aircraft Transportation System (SATS). Both NASA programs consist of a similar participant pool. By examining the effects of recommendations from previous studies, this analysis illustrated the transitional effects identified through the analysis. This planning framework illustrated the evolution of program and goal structure and the catalytic effect on the aviation industry and product development through increased interaction
