Covariant quantization of N=1/2 SYM theories and supergauge invariance

So far, quantum properties of N=1/2 nonanticommutative (NAC) super Yang--Mills theories have been investigated in the WZ gauge. The gauge independence of the results requires assuming that at the quantum level supergauge invariance is not broken by nonanticommutative geometry. In this paper we use an alternative approach which allows studying these theories in a manifestly gauge independent superspace setup. This is accomplished by generalizing the background field method to the NAC case, by moving to a momentum superspace where star products are treated as exponential factors and by developing momentum supergraph techniques. We compute the one--loop gauge effective action for NAC U(N) gauge theories with matter in the adjoint representation. Despite the appearance of divergent contributions which break (super)gauge invariance, we prove that the effective action at this order is indeed invariant.Comment: 24 pages, 3 figures, some references adde

Extra U(1) as natural source of a monochromatic gamma ray line

    Get PDF
Extensions of the Standard Model with an extra U'(1) abelian group generically generate terms coming from loops of heavy fermions, leading to three gauge boson couplings, in particular Z'Z gamma. We show that WMAP data constrains the gauge coupling of the group g_D to values comparable with the electro-weak ones, rather independently of the mass of Z'. Moreover, the model predicts a monochromatic gamma-ray line which can fit a 130 GeV signal at the FERMI telescope for natural values of the Chern-Simons terms and a dark matter mass around 144.5 GeV.Comment: 6 pages, 5 figures, published versio

A semi-infinite matrix analysis of the BFKL equation

The forward BFKL equation is discretised in virtuality space and it is shown that the diffusion into infrared and ultraviolet momenta can be understood in terms of a semi-infinite matrix. The square truncation of this matrix can be exponentiated leading to asymptotic eigenstates sharing many features with the BFKL gluon Green's function in the limit of large matrix size. This truncation is closely related to a representation of the XXX Heisenberg spin =12= - \frac{1}{2} chain with SL(2) invariance where the Hamiltonian acts on a symmetric double copy of the harmonic oscillator. A simple modification of the BFKL matrix suppressing the infrared modes generates evolution with energy compatible with unitarity.Comment: Small changes, same conclusions, matching the published version in EPJ

Capillary rising damp in Venetian context : state of the art and numerical simulation

The fragility of Venice and its buildings are linked to the floods, observed since ancient times and emphasized in recent years: the periodic sea level rise, accompanied by rising damp, are the main causes of the alteration. In particular, the rising damp causes a series of complex diseases in the historic buildings, such as physical decay, chemical or biological, with loss of aesthetic and economic value. In addition, greater heat dispersion and reduced thermal comfort can also occur in interior spaces, with consequent risks for human health. This is a sign of “Sick Building Syndrome”. It is very important to develop models for assessing the vulnerability of assets and to manage sustainable plans related to maintenance processes and activities, satisfying the requirements of effectiveness and compatibility.Basing on numerical models performed with the WUFI 2D software, the paper analyses the different behavior of rising damp in relation to materials or masonry structures. In particular, the construction techniques and typical materials used in Venetian buildings were investigated, such as clay brick walls, lime plaster, Marmorino and Cocciopesto, adopted mainly to limit the capillary rise also caused by the phenomenon of “acqua alta”

Gravitino dark matter in hybrid gauge-gravity models

    Get PDF
We study the phenomenology of generic supergravity models in which gravity mediation naturally competes with gauge mediation as the origin of supergravity-breaking. This class of hybrid models has been recently motivated in string inspired constructions and differs from usual gauge mediated supersymmetry breaking models in having messenger masses of order of the GUT scale. In these scenarios the gravitino can be the lightest supersymmetric particle in wide regions of the parameter space and therefore a potential candidate for dark matter. We investigate this possibility, imposing the WMAP bound on its relic abundance and taking into account constraints from Big Bang nucleosynthesis. We show that in these constructions viable gravitino dark matter can be obtained in specific regions of the parameter space, featuring large values of tan β and where the supersymmetry breaking mechanism is dominated by gauge mediation

Assessment of the IEQ in Two High Schools by Means of Monitoring, Surveys and Dynamic Simulation

Abstract This work presents an assessment of schools' indoor environmental quality, based on investigations carried out in three Italian classrooms in Treviso, in the North-East of Italy. A first monitoring campaign was performed during the mid season (May-June), a second one during the heating period (January-February). At a first stage, the study was focused on two different approaches, an objective and a subjective one, in order to compare the objective responses with the occupants' subjective sensations. The first method consisted of physical observations and field measurements of thermal environmental parameters, used to calculate Fanger's comfort indices and to apply a comfort adaptive model. The subjective approach was managed by giving students and teachers a survey about their personal judgment concerning the level of comfort perceived. Finally, a simulation model has been built-up and calibrated using the indoor values of air temperature and air humidity trends collected by data loggers. A generic optimization program has been used to calibrate the thermal model. The responses from measurements, surveys and simulations were integrated, analyzed and compared, obtaining a good agreement between the three approaches in assessing the classroom thermal comfort category

    (In)visible Z' and dark matter

We study the consequences of an extension of the standard model containing an invisible extra gauge group under which the SM particles are neutral. We show that effective operators, generated by loops of heavy chiral fermions charged under both gauge groups and connecting the new gauge sector to the Standard Model, can give rise to a viable dark matter candidate. Its annihilations produce clean visible signals through a gamma-ray line. This would be a smoking gun signature of such models observable by actual experiments.Comment: 18 pages, 5 figures, version to appear in JHE

Computational Fluid Dynamic Study with Comfort Analysis in Large Atrium of the Angelo Hospital in Venice

    Get PDF
To improve the thermal comfort in the hall of the Angelo Hospital (Venezia) an analysis was developed by using Computation Fluid Dynamics and considering some configurations for the air-conditioning system and for the solar shading devices. The reference configuration consists of the installation of four fan coils in the area coupled with a 3 m high metal casing used for solar shading. Then, three other solutions are proposed: by increasing the number of fan coils and changing their position, by adding some radiant panels arranged on the walls, and by inserting a physical confinement as a lateral confinement. The study consists of three sections. Firstly, a section in which the study area is modelled through a strong simplification that allows to represent only a slice of the domain but to immediately evaluate the role of the casing. A second section in which the area is completely modelled, and a third section in which a comfort evaluation is carried out. The analysis shows that the metal casing brings a substantial benefit due to the solar shielding it causes. The radiant panels cool the area only near the wall. The increasing of the number of the fans leads to an excessively high air speed and localized discomfort due to drafts. The lateral confinement on the north and south side is the one that guarantees better cooling of the study area

We show that N=1/2 supersymmetric gauge theory is renormalisable at one loop, but only after gauge invariance is restored in a non-trivial fashion.Comment: 11 pages, including 3 figures. Plain TeX. Uses Harvmac and epsf. Minor changes and reference adde
