A technical aid for San Rafael school disabled students: intelligent presence detector

The bachelor thesis exposed here attempts to be part of the “Design for All” community, where age, gender, capabilities and culture do not matter. This project is guided by its design rules and methodology. The aim of the project is to develop a functional system which will allow students from San Rafael School to easily recognize themselves, as well as the room they are entering. The system is composed by an open source small motherboard which will be properly programmed to recognize every student going into a room inside the school. This task is carried out by scanning Low Energy Bluetooth beacons which are held by the students. The system then will launch a custom voice message welcoming them by their own name and the name of the room they are entering. The system will also recognize the rest of Bluetooth Low Energy devices around, but only the students will be recognized and get their custom voice message. To do that, the motherboard will be adapted with a small speaker and a modest power supply.El presente Trabajo Fin de Grado pretende formar parte de la comunidad “Diseño para Todos”, en la que edad, género, capacidades y cultura no importan. Este proyecto está guiado por sus doctrinas de diseño y metodología. El propósito de este proyecto es desarrollar un sistema funcional que permitirá a los alumnos del colegio San Rafael reconocer la estancia en la que entran, además de reconocerse a sí mismos. El Sistema está compuesto por una pequeña placa base de licencia de código abierto que será programada adecuadamente para reconocer a cada alumno que entre a una estancia dentro del colegio. Esta tarea será llevaba a cabo escaneando balizas emisoras de Bluetooth de baja energía, portadas por los alumnos. El sistema reproducirá un mensaje de voz personalizado dándoles la bienvenida con su propio nombre y la estancia a la que acceden. El sistema reconocerá de igual forma cualquier dispositivo Bluetooth de baja energía cercano, sin embargo, solo los estudiantes reconocidos obtendrán el mensaje de voz. Evaluación del protocolo de tratamiento ambulatorio en las diverticulitis agudas no complicadas

[ES] La diverticulosis es la alteración anatómica más frecuente del colon en el mundo occidental. La mayoría de ellas se mantendrán asintomáticas de por vida, sin embargo un 10-25% sufrirán algún episodio de diverticulitis aguda. Mientras que el tratamiento de las diverticulitis complicadas (con absceso o perforación) parece claro, actualmente existe un cambio de actitud hacia un manejo más conservador de las no complicadas. A su vez, se encuentra en debate la indicación de colectomía profiláctica en las diverticulitis recurrentes. Los investigadores se centran ahora en identificar aquellas diverticulitis con peor pronóstico que puedan beneficiarse de tratamientos como la colectomía electiva de forma precoz. Mediante este estudio se pretende conocer la evolución a largo plazo de las diverticulitis agudas no complicadas tratadas de manera domiciliaria y valorar su correlación con los parámetros demográficos, clínicos y analíticos estudiados

Programa de prevención de las distorsiones cognitivas generadas por el alcohol y los juegos de azar

Este Trabajo aborda el tema de las Distorsiones Cognitivas generadas por el alcohol y los juegos de azar en los adolescentes. Los cambios en los patrones de consumo de alcohol y en la manera de jugar y de apostar han ido variando notablemente en las últimas décadas, haciendo que los jóvenes tengan estos comportamientos a edades más tempranas debido a su fácil accesibilidad e inmediatez. Por ello, se plantea una intervención a realizar en los institutos concretamente en 1º de la ESO, en la que a través de 9 sesiones en las horas de tutoría se verá el consumo de alcohol, la ludopatía y se dotará a los alumnos de habilidades para reafirmar su personalidad, su autoestima, establecer límites y así no caigan en la presión social de realizar ciertas conductas, extrapolándolo a diferentes de su vida.This Work addresses the issue of Cognitive Distortions generated by alcohol and gambling in adolescents. Changes in patterns of alcohol consumption and in the way of playing and betting have been changing notably in recent decades, causing young people to have these behaviors at earlier ages due to their easy accessibility and immediacy. For this reason, an intervention is proposed to be carried out in the institutes, specifically in the 1st year of ESO, in which, through 9 sessions in the tutoring hours, alcohol consumption, gambling addiction will be seen, and students will be provided with skills to reaffirm their personality, their self-esteem, establish limits and thus not fall into social pressure to perform certain behaviors. Optimización de controladores difusos compactos utilizados para regulación de temperatura

This document shows the optimization of different configurations of a compact fuzzy controller for temperature regulation in a room; such configurations are established considering the analogy with different discrete linear controllers; the model is characterized by several heat transfer components. The results show that the optimization process allows adequate tuning of most of the fuzzy controllers. The initial configuration is relevant for the optimization of the controllers; finally, the best result is obtained with the configuration PID of the compact controller.Este documento muestra la optimización de diferentes configuraciones de un controlador difuso compacto para la regulación de temperatura en una habitación; tales configuraciones se establecen considerando la analogía con diferentes controladores lineales discretos. El modelo se caracteriza por varias componentes de transferencia de calor. Los resultados muestran que el proceso de optimización permite una adecuada sintonía de la mayoría de controladores difusos. Para la optimización de los controladores es de relevancia la configuración inicial, finalmente, el mejor resultado se obtiene con la configuración del controlador compacto de tipo PID

25 Years of Civil Wars : Identifying Key Developments Through the Reviews Section

This introductory essay to the Reviews Section of Civil Wars 25th Anniversary Special Issue explores key paradigms in the field of conflict studies, and how they have evolved, ranging from new and critical approaches to knowledge production; to conceptualisations of political violence and civil war as dynamic, relational, and potentially order-making and a new demand to centre research ethics in our work. Among other things, this introduction calls on scholars of civil wars to cultivate and maintain spaces for critical dialogue and reflection – not just on methods and findings but also on broader questions of the processes and politics of knowledge production – to ensure the health and advancement of our sub-field

Formula for the Absorption Coefficient for Multi-Wall Nanotubes

We present a formalism for calculating the absorption coefficient of a pair of coaxial tubules. A spatially nonlocal, dynamical self-consistent field theory is obtained by calculating the electrostatic potential produced by the charge density fluctuations as well as the external electric field. There are peaks in the absorption spectrum arising from plasma excitations corresponding either to plasmon or particle-hole modes. In this paper, we numerically calculate the plasmon contribution to the absorption spectrum when an external electric field is applied. The number of peaks depends on the radius of the inner as well as outer tubule. The height of each peak is determined by the plasmon wavelength and energy. For a chosen wave number, the most energetic plasmon has the highest peak corresponding to the largest oscillator strength of the excited modes. Some of the low-frequency plasmon modes have such weak coupling to an external electric field that they are not seen on the same scale as the modes with larger energy of excitation. We plot the peak positions of the plasmon excitations for a pair of coaxial tubules. The coupled modes on the two tubules are split by the Coulomb interaction. The energies of the two highest plasmon branches increase with the radius of the outer tubule. On the contrary, the lowest modes decrease in energy as this radius is increased. No effects due to inter-tubule hopping are included in these calculations
