Cryomorphological topographies in the study of ice caves

    Get PDF
Producción CientíficaThe current interest in ice caves requires that their varied manifestations be known as accurately as possible in view of their responses to a global change and also to their great potential as paleoenvironmental witnesses. This phenomenon has been known about for a long time but is still scarcely studied from the point of view of its cryological values and the evolution and distribution of many of their morphologies. For this, the development of cryomorphological topographies from traditional techniques to geodetic surveys with different tools, including terrestrial laser scanning, is one of the most current ways to characterize and quantify this type of cryospheric phenomena. It represents a new kind of periglacial cartography whose use is feasible in spite of the difficulties these environments present.Ministerio de Economía, Industria y Competitividad (project CGL2015-68144-R

Heuristic Classification of Physical Theories based on Quantum Correlations

Taking quantum formalism as a point of reference and connection, we explore the various possibilities that arise in the construction of physical theories. Analyzing the distinct physical phenomena that each of them may describe, we introduce the different types of hidden variables theories that correspond to these physical phenomena. A hierarchical classification of the offered theories, based on the degree of correlation between dichotomic observables in bipartite systems, as quantified by a Bell type inequality, is finally proposed.Comment: 13 pages, 2 figure

On p-Compact Sets in Classical Banach Spaces

    Get PDF
Given p ≥ 1, we denote by Cp the class of all Banach spaces X satisfying the equality Kp(Y,X) = Πdp(Y,X) for every Banach space Y , Kp (respectively, Πdp ) being the operator ideal of p-compact operators (respectively, of operators with p-summing adjoint). If X belongs to Cp, a bounded set A ⊂ X is relatively p-compact if and only if the evaluation map U∗ A : X∗ −→ ∞(A) is p-summing. We obtain p-compactness criteria valid for Banach spaces in Cp

Quantum Navigation and Ranking in Complex Networks

    Get PDF
Complex networks are formal frameworks capturing the interdependencies between the elements of large systems and databases. This formalism allows to use network navigation methods to rank the importance that each constituent has on the global organization of the system. A key example is Pagerank navigation which is at the core of the most used search engine of the World Wide Web. Inspired in this classical algorithm, we define a quantum navigation method providing a unique ranking of the elements of a network. We analyze the convergence of quantum navigation to the stationary rank of networks and show that quantumness decreases the number of navigation steps before convergence. In addition, we show that quantum navigation allows to solve degeneracies found in classical ranks. By implementing the quantum algorithm in real networks, we confirm these improvements and show that quantum coherence unveils new hierarchical features about the global organization of complex systems.Comment: title changed, more real networks analyzed, version published in scientific report

A newspaper for immigrants. Spanisch-Italian interference in Expreso Latino

    Get PDF
This contribution studies Spanish-Italian interference appearing in Expreso Latino, a newspaper for Latino immigrants broadly distributed in Italy, which offers interesting examples of two closely related languages in contact. The data constitute a field for the study of more general aspects related to intercultural communication

A probabilistic model for explaining the points achieved by a team in football competition. Forecasting and regression with applications to the Spanish competition

    Get PDF
In the last decades, a lot of research papers applying statistical methods for analysing sports data have been published. Football, also called soccer, is one of the most popular sports all over the world organised in national championships in a round robin format in which the team reaching the most points at the end of the tournament wins the competition. The aim of this work is to develop a suitable probability model for studying the points achieved by a team in a football match. For this purpose, we built a discrete probability distribution taking values, zero for losing, one for a draw and three for a victory. We test its performance using data from the Spanish Football League (First division) during the 2013-14 season. Furthermore, the model provides an attractive framework for predicting points and incorporating covariates in order to study the factors affecting the points achieved by the teams.Peer Reviewe

The normative duality on the one that constructed the protection herself of those (LOPHII and LOPD), has demonstrated his lacks.
