    Die hier vorliegende Arbeit hat sich zum Ziel gesetzt, die Werke der Tetralogie Helmut Kraussers in Bezug auf Analogien und Parallelen hinsichtlich der Figurenkonzeption anhand konkreter Aspekte zu untersuchen. Als Grundlage werden daher zuerst die Romane gesondert in chronologischer Reihenfolge ihres Erscheinens untersucht, wobei der Fokus auf einer Darstellung der Protagonisten in ihrer Gesamtheit liegt. Das beinhaltet eine Betrachtung der physischen sowie psychischen Konstitution und Konzeption, führt über eine Untersuchung der strukturellen Relevanz der jeweiligen Figur für den Text bis hin zu markanten Elementen und Motiven, wie beispielsweise der speziellen Namensgebung. Dabei werden allerdings die Protagonisten nicht nach einem festgelegten Schema abgehandelt, sondern in ihrem jeweiligen Kontext betrachtet. Daran kann auch eine gewisse Weiterentwicklung ausgemacht werden, die im Hinblick auf die Analogien innerhalb der Tetralogie berücksichtigt werden soll. Ausgehend von den Ergebnissen, die durch dieses Verfahren gewonnen werden, wird in einem zusammenfassenden Kapitel explizit dargestellt, wodurch Parallelen ausgemacht werden können und woran sich gewisse Stereotypien hinsichtlich der Konzeption zeigen. Grundsätzlich zeigt sich dabei, dass Helmut Krausser aus einem immer wieder wohlbekannten Motiv-Inventar schöpft, es aber versteht, jene Motive gekonnt zu variieren. Nicht zuletzt deswegen erscheint eine Motiv-Analogie häufig zwar offensichtlich, lässt sich aber, sobald es darum geht sie konkret zu benennen, nur schwer fassen. Dies zeigt sich auch an einer Reihe ausgewählter Aspekte, die auf eine Allgemeingültigkeit innerhalb der Tetralogie geprüft wurden. Dass Ergebnis dieser Untersuchung verläuft insofern erstaunlich, als dass viele Stereotypien nachgewiesen werden können, sofern man den großen Spielraum, in dem sie sich bewegen, erkennt. Markanterweise stellt sich die Suche nach Analogien innerhalb der Tetralogie in Bezug auf die Figuren auch als Gratwanderung zwischen einer klassischen Figurenkonzeption und einem erzähltheoretischen Konzept dar. Das heißt nichts anderes, als dass Helmut Kraussers Erzählkonzept einen speziellen Figurentypus benötigt ohne den es nicht zu realisieren wäre. Darin kann unter anderem auch ein Grund für die stereotype Konzeption der Protagonisten gesehen werden

    A goal programming methodology for multiobjective optimization of distributed energy hubs operation

    This paper addresses the problem of optimal energy flow management in multicarrier energy networks in the presence of interconnected energy hubs. The overall problem is here formalized by a nonlinear constrained multiobjective optimization problem and solved by a goal attainment based methodology. The application of this solution approach allows the analyst to identify the optimal operation state of the distributed energy hubs which ensures an effective and reliable operation of the multicarrier energy network in spite of large variations of load demands and energy prices. Simulation results obtained on the 30 bus IEEE test network are presented and discussed in order to demonstrate the significance and the validity of the proposed method

    Physical activity promotion in daily exercise therapy: the perspectives of exercise therapists in German rehabilitation settings

    Background This study aims to explore exercise therapists’ perspectives on the topic of physical activity promotion (PAP) with a focus on identifying (i) the intervention content and methodological approaches used for promoting physical activity (PA) in daily practice and (ii) the barriers and facilitators that affect PAP. Methods This qualitative study comprised the heads of exercise therapy departments (n = 58; 41% women; mean age = 45 years) from different rehabilitation clinics in Germany. Each participant took part in a semi-structured focus-group discussion on PAP in exercise therapy. The findings of the focus groups were processed and interpreted using a conventional qualitative content analysis. Results The exercise therapists demonstrated detailed didactic–methodological strategies and action orientations for PAP. The identified core topics of the content and methods of PAP were (1) conceptualization, (2) exercise and PA for enjoyment and pleasure, (3) education with practice–theory combinations, (4) media and materials for self-directed training, and (5) strategies to enhance personal responsibility and independence. The core topics for the associated barriers and facilitators were (1) structural conditions, (2) the role of exercise therapists, (3) the interdisciplinary rehabilitation team, (4) rehabilitant experiences and expectations, and (5) aftercare services. Conclusion The topic of PAP is addressed with a high level of variability; exercise therapists involved in this study identify various methods and content for the promotion of PA within their individual practices. However, they display a limited awareness of existing evidence- and theory-based concepts for the promotion of PA as well as underlying theories of behavioural change. This variability may be due to the lack of a defined common framework for promoting PA, insufficient emphasis being placed on PA promotion in the current curricula and training, or extensive conceptual differences within German exercise therapy departments (e.g. different weighting of PAP)

    Do Sugar-Sweetened Beverages Increase Fasting FGF21 Irrespective of the Type of Added Sugar? A Secondary Exploratory Analysis of a Randomized Controlled Trial.

    Human fibroblast growth factor 21 (FGF21) is a multifaceted metabolic regulator considered to control sugar intake and to exert beneficial effects on glucose and lipid metabolism. Elevated serum FGF21 levels are associated with metabolic syndrome, suggesting a state of FGF21 resistance. Further, given the evidence of a hepatic ChREBP and FGF21 signaling axis, it can be assumed that SSBs containing fructose would possibly increase FGF21 concentrations. We investigated the effects of sugar-sweetened beverage (SSB) consumption on fasting FGF21 levels in healthy, lean men, discriminating the effects of glucose, fructose, and their disaccharide sucrose by secondary data analysis from a randomized controlled trial. Seven weeks of daily SSB consumption resulted in increased fasting FGF21 in healthy, lean men, irrespective of the sugar type. Medians of ΔFGF21 between post-SSB intervention values (week 7) and no-intervention period values (IQR) in pg/mL were: glucose 17.4 (0.4-45.8), fructose 22.9 (-8.6-35.1), and sucrose 13.7 (2.2-46.1). In contrast, this change in FGF21 concentration was only 6.3 (-20.1-26.9) pg/mL in the control group. The lack of a fructose-specific effect on FGF21 concentrations is contrary to our assumption. It is concluded that SSB intake may impact FGF21 concentrations and could contribute to the increased FGF21 concentrations observed in subjects suffering from metabolic syndrome that is possibly associated with decreased FGF21 responsiveness

    Dose–response relationship between physical activity and mortality in people with non-communicable diseases: a study protocol for the systematic review and meta-analysis of cohort studies

    Introduction This study protocol outlines our planned systematic review and dose-response meta-analysis of postdiagnosis physical activity and mortality in people with non-communicable diseases (NCDs). Methods and analysis This study is based on the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analysis for Protocols. A systematic literature search will be conducted in various databases—namely, PubMed, Scopus and Web of Science—by two researchers in order to identify prospective observational studies that investigate postdiagnosis physical activity or activity-related energy expenditure and mortality in individuals with NCDs. The target population is adults (≥18 years of age) with one of the following nine NCDs: low back pain, type 2 diabetes mellitus, osteoarthritis, depressive disorder, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, breast cancer, lung cancer, stroke or ischaemic heart disease. We will focus on all-cause mortality as the primary outcome and investigate indication-specific mortality as the secondary outcome. For each study identified as a result of the literature search, we will conduct graphical dose-response analyses of mortality as a function of activity-related energy consumption. If more than two studies are available for one disease, we will perform linear and non-linear dose-response meta-analyses for said disease using random-effects models. We will investigate the heterogeneity of the studies and publication bias. To assess the risk of bias and the quality of the included studies, we will use the Risk Of Bias In Non-randomised Studies - of Interventions tool, which is a Cochrane tool

    SiteBinder: an improved approach for comparing multiple protein structural motifs.

    There is a paramount need to develop new techniques and tools that will extract as much information as possible from the ever growing repository of protein 3D structures. We report here on the development of a software tool for the multiple superimposition of large sets of protein structural motifs. Our superimposition methodology performs a systematic search for the atom pairing that provides the best fit. During this search, the RMSD values for all chemically relevant pairings are calculated by quaternion algebra. The number of evaluated pairings is markedly decreased by using PDB annotations for atoms. This approach guarantees that the best fit will be found and can be applied even when sequence similarity is low or does not exist at all. We have implemented this methodology in the Web application SiteBinder, which is able to process up to thousands of protein structural motifs in a very short time, and which provides an intuitive and user-friendly interface. Our benchmarking analysis has shown the robustness, efficiency, and versatility of our methodology and its implementation by the successful superimposition of 1000 experimentally determined structures for each of 32 eukaryotic linear motifs. We also demonstrate the applicability of SiteBinder using three case studies. We first compared the structures of 61 PA-IIL sugar binding sites containing nine different sugars, and we found that the sugar binding sites of PA-IIL and its mutants have a conserved structure despite their binding different sugars. We then superimposed over 300 zinc finger central motifs and revealed that the molecular structure in the vicinity of the Zn atom is highly conserved. Finally, we superimposed 12 BH3 domains from pro-apoptotic proteins. Our findings come to support the hypothesis that there is a structural basis for the functional segregation of BH3-only proteins into activators and enablers

    Physical Activity and Sedentary Behaviour Patterns in 326 Persons with COPD before Starting a Pulmonary Rehabilitation: A Cluster Analysis

    This study applies a cluster analysis to identify typical physical activity (PA) and sedentary behaviour (SB) patterns in people with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) before starting pulmonary rehabilitation (PR). We implemented an observational design which assessed baseline data of objectively measured PA and SB from the STAR (Stay Active after Rehabilitation) study. A total of 355 persons wore an accelerometer (Actigraph wGT3X) for seven days before the start of their PR. Sociodemographic and disease-related parameters were assessed at the start of PR. We applied cluster analysis and compared clusters applying univariate variance analyses. Data was available for 326 persons (31.6% women; age ø = 58 years). Cluster analysis revealed four movement clusters with distinct PA and SB patterns: Sedentary non-movers (28.5%), sedentary occasional movers (41.7%), sedentary movers (19.6%), and sedentary exercisers (10.1%). The four clusters displayed varying levels of moderate PA before rehabilitation (Ø daily min: 9; 28; 38; 70). Notably, all four clusters displayed considerably long average sedentary time per day (Ø daily minutes: 644; 561; 490; 446). The clusters differed significantly in disease-related parameters of GOLD severity, FEV1, CAT, and 6-Min-Walk-Test.
