The Effect of social security, demography and technology on retirement

This article investigates the causes in the reduction of labor force participation ofthe old. We argue that the changes in social security policy, in technology and indemography may account for most of the changes in retirement over the second partof the last century in the U.S. economy. We develop a dynamic general equilibriummodel with endogenous retirement that embeds social security legislation. The modelis able to match very closely the increase in the retirement rate of males aged 65 andolder. It also quanti es the isolated impact on retirement and on the solvency of thesocial security system of the di¤erent factors. The model suggests that technologicaland demographic changes had a strong in uence on retirement, so that it would haveincreased signi cantly even if the social security rules had not changed. However, asthe latter became much more generous in the past, changes in social security policycan account not only for a sizeable part of the expansion of retirement, but also for themost of the observed increase in the social security expenses as a share of GDP.

LIFE CYCLE OF BRAZILIAN CREDIT UNIONS: A STUDY BASED ON FINANCIAL VARIABLES

ABSTRACT: This paper seeks to contribute to the debate on the use of financial variables as predictors for the classification of credit unions into stages of the life cycle. For this purpose, the relationship between the proposed stages is analyzed by means of the signs of cash flows and financial indicators based on the literature, namely operational efficiency, financial intermediation revenues, adjusted net equity, variation in capital stock, and portfolio of overdue credit operations, by means of a multinomial logistic regression in Brazilian credit unions in the period between 2015 and 2019. The results of this study indicate that the relationship between the stages of the life cycle of Brazilian credit unions through financial variables is significant, especially those proposed in the turbulence stage. Based on the results, it is understood that the knowledge and use of this matrix by credit union managers and members can prove to be a promising method for identifying the stage of the life cycle of the union in which it is applied.Keywords: Stages; Life Cycle; Financial Variables; Brazilian Credit Unions. RESUMO: Este trabalho busca contribuir para o debate sobre a utilização de variáveis financeiras como preditoras para a classificação de cooperativas de crédito em estágios do ciclo de vida. Para o propósito, analisa-se a relação entre os estágios propostos por meio dos sinais dos fluxos de caixa e indicadores financeiros baseados na literatura, quais sejam a eficiência operacional, receitas de intermediação financeira, patrimônio líquido ajustado, variação do capital social e carteira de operações de crédito vencidas, por meio de uma regressão logística multinomial em cooperativas de crédito brasileiras no período entre 2015 e 2019. Os resultados deste estudo indicam que a relação entre os estágios do ciclo de vida de cooperativas de crédito brasileiras por meio de variáveis financeiras é significativa, com destaque para aquelas propostas no estágio de turbulência. Entende-se, a partir dos resultados encontrados, que o conhecimento e o uso dessa matriz por administradores de cooperativas e por cooperados pode se provar um método promissor para a identificação do estágio do ciclo de vida da cooperativa em que se aplica.Palavras-chave: Estágios; Ciclo de Vida; Variáveis Financeiras; Cooperativas de Crédito Brasileiras. RESUMEN: Este trabajo busca contribuir al debate sobre el uso de variables financieras como predictores para la clasificación de las cooperativas de ahorro y crédito en etapas del ciclo de vida. Para ello, se analiza la relación entre las etapas propuestas a través de las señales de flujos de caja e indicadores financieros basados en la literatura, a saber, la eficiencia operativa, los ingresos por intermediación financiera, el patrimonio ajustado, la variación del capital social y la cartera de créditos vencidos, a través de una regresión logística multinomial en cooperativas de ahorro y crédito brasileñas en el período comprendido entre 2015 y 2019. Los resultados de este estudio indican que la relación entre las etapas del ciclo de vida de las cooperativas de ahorro y crédito brasileñas a través de variables financieras es significativa, con énfasis en aquellas propuestas en el etapa de turbulencia. Se entiende, a partir de los resultados encontrados, que el conocimiento y uso de esta matriz por los administradores de cooperativas y por los cooperativistas puede resultar un método promisorio para identificar la etapa del ciclo de vida de la cooperativa en la que se aplica.Palabras clave: Pasantías; Ciclo de vida; Variables Financieras; cooperativas de ahorro y crédito brasileñas.

Starting with this approach, we have situated this analysis between the contact line of the artistic productions created with the aid of technology and the representations of the self through social networks. To this end, we have postulated three key concepts in which we highlight the role of the mediated image in artistic practices at the turn of the 20th century, in particular with the Fluxus movement. PENGGUNAAN TEKNOLOGI INFORMASI DAN KOMUNIKASI (TIK) DALAM MANAJEMEN PROYEK KONSTRUKSI DI TIMOR LESTE

Teknologi Informasi dan Komunikasi (TIK) sangat dirasakan kebutuhan dan kepentingannya untuk perbaikan dan peningkatan kualitas dalam sebuah pekerjaan di dalam proyek konstruksi serta mengurangi proses pengolahan dan waktu untuk mengkomunikasikan informasi sehingga membuat kemungkinan produktivitas konstruksi meningkat.Teknologi Informasi dan Komunikasi (TIK) sebagai segala kegiatan yang terkait dengan pemrosesan, manipulasi, pengelolaan, pemindahan informasi antar media. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui Teknologi Informasi dan Komunikasi (TIK) yang digunakan dalam manajemen proyek konstruksi di wilayah Timor Leste, mengetahui beberapa perspektif Teknologi Informasi (TI) dalam manajemen proyek konstruksi, dan perbedaan atau persamaan penggunaan Teknologi Informasi dan Komunikasi (TIK) dalam manajemen proyek konstruksi di wilayah Timor Leste dengan Yogyakarta. Pada penelitian ini proses pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan cara pengumpulan data kuantitatif. Maka selanjutnya analisis data yang digunakan adalah analisis deskriptif dengan menghitungkan frekuensi dan persentase serta mean, standar deviasi, dan analisis uji T. Hasil analisis secara umum kontraktor maupun konsultan, paling banyak menggunakan Microsoft Word pada kapasitas pengolah kata dan paling sedikit menggunakan eCommerce dan eProcurement. Hasil tiap perspektif memiliki nilai yang berbeda-beda. Berdasarkan tiap perspektif yang terdapat di wilayah Timor Leste dan Yogyakarta dapat disimpulkan bahwa di wilayah Timor Leste lebih tinggi Perspektif manfaat yaitu sebesar 90% dan yang terendah perspektif utilitas pengguna sebesar 73%. Sedangkan di wilayah Yogyakarta perspektif manfaat pengaruh tertinggi sebesar 91%, dan yang terendah yaitu 76% perspektif utilitas pengguna. Dengan perbandingan menggunakan uji t, wilayah Timor Leste dan Yogyakarta tidak ada perbedaan penggunaan Teknologi Informasi dan Komunikasi (TIK) dalam manajemen proyek konstruksi. Hal ini dikarenakan dengan penggunaan Teknologi Informasi dan Komunikasi (TIK) dalam manajemen proyek konstruksi dapat meningkatkan kinerja kontraktor maupun konsultan

"Num mundo em evolução rápida e turbulenta, as ciências sociais em questão"

Neste texto o autor interroga o lugar das Ciências Sociais (CS) num mundo que outorga cada vez mais um privilégio absoluto às tecno-ciências, à “Big Science”, e às suas aplicações tecnológicas. A tese exposta é a de que as mudanças que o mundo actual conhece colocam, pela sua profundidade e pela velocidade a que se operam, um desafio às nossas sociedades, desafio que só as CS podem sustentar: o da compreensão e da condução dos processos de transformação social e das suas consequências. Para responder ao desafio, as CS devem desenvolver uma dupla estratégia científica: ao nível epistemológico, a de elaborar os conceitos e os instrumentos de investigação; e ao nível do ensino, nomeadamente ao nível superior, fomentar uma aprendizagem criteriosa das CS, inserindo-as nos currículos. Os objectivos serão o de fundar uma nova “cultura geral” dos cidadãos, e o de produzir conhecimento operacional em benefício das políticas de desenvolvimento económico, social e humano das nossas sociedades. / / ABSTRACT The author interrogates the place of the Social Sciences (SS) in a world that increasingly grants an absolute privilege to techno-science, “Big Science”, and its technological applications. The exposed thesis is that the changes affecting the present world, because of their depth and the speed at which they occur, set a challenge to our societies that only SS can sustain: the understanding and management of processes of social change and its consequences. To meet the challenge, the SS must develop a dual scientific strategy: at the epistemological level, they ought to develop the concepts and tools for research; at the institutional level, including the higher academic levels, there should be a thorough learning of SS, giving them a full place in the curricula. The aims will be the founding of a new “general culture” and grounded citizenship, and producing operational knowledge for the benefit of the political, economic, social and human development of our societies

Anything goes? Uma discussão ética sobre arte extrema

Comunicação apresentada no Seminário Interdisciplinar Saber Fazer: Talento, Conhecimento e Interacção, Lisboa, 2009. O Seminário foi organizado pelo IPA - Instituto Superior Autónomo de Estudos Politécnicos.O ponto de ignição deste texto recai, quase na sua totalidade, na crescente necessidade de uma discussão sobre um tema que, pela sua natureza litigiosa, requer um debate capaz de identificar aspectos passíveis de contestação. A história da arte habituou-nos a inúmeros movimentos de ruptura, a paradoxos e a outras contendas ao longo dos anos. Contudo, começam agora a surgir, e cada vez com maior intensidade, debates, conferências, ensaios e análises mais cuidadas que tentam iluminar um caminho de investigação sobre estas novas contendas que, parte da produção artística, tem reclamado como sua. Ora, referimo-nos, especificamente a produções que foram historicamente denominadas das mais diversas formas. Nascendo sob a égide de Body Art (titulo que ganhou outras conotações ligadas a outros campos que não apenas o da produção artística), desembocou em outras acções que foram sendo nomeadas de Carnal Art, de Bioart, de Disturbing Art e, daquela que adoptamos para este texto, baptizada por Francesca Migleti – a Arte Extrema. Estas práticas ganharam o seu nome pelas suas características síncronas, de perturbação e de libertação através do uso do obsceno, da nudez, do sangue, de excrementos, mutilações, dor, perigo e, da possibilidade iminente da morte

Bio Art meets the streets : a reflection on new forms of art engagement

Artigo apresentado no Congresso Internacional ACC – Arte, Ciencia y Ciudad na Universidade do País Basco.Public art, despite is extension to the urban landscapes, has been a limited artistic practice in terms of critical discussion. In this sense, is has been used as an urban form for remodelling or, instead, as an ordinary form of expansion of the artists audience. However, public art can be understood as a social awareness practice creating the need to set up a broader critical discourse contributing to a greater democratization to the artistic practice. In this sense, there has been a growing number of visual artists who believe that art and the role of public entities isn’t just the creation of permanent art objects, but rather a way to facilitate the creation of artworks that encourage actions, ideas and the intervention of the audience, making the public artwork an object that calls to social responsibility. Bio art has tried to demonstrate, through its aesthetic discourse, the need to establish a broader public discussion. Thus, in this paper we will highlight the importance of an odd art public project of Natalie Jeremijenko – One Tree(s) (2000). Through the questions raised by this artwork, we will reflect on how the intersection between art and technoscience can contribute to a greater extension of the idea of hard humanities and on how a larger critical reflection can be exercise through and beyond the art world toward a field that involves in the same discourse art, science, society and the urban network

Raízes do "património": a dupla herança

A noção contemporânea de “património”, em lugar de ser a herdeira directa da Antiguidade clássica, o seu prolongamento sem mais que os ajustamentos exigidos pelos novos tempos, apresenta-se como uma imagem que em muitas dimensões inverte as valências da sua suposta antepassada, como se o trabalho de elaboração simbólica levado a cabo por dois milénios de cristianização tivesse, entre sincretismo e reformulação, resultado na inversão sistemática das posições simbólicas. Examina-se a relação de “património” com o sacrifício, e procura-se determinar o lugar que ocupam os processos e os objectos patrimoniais no ritual de sacralização, nomeadamente enquanto objectos votados a entidades que se encontram para além deles. Procura-se compreender o jogo entre virtual e real que o corpo ocupa nas suas estratégias estéticas. Através da análise das suas obras mais emblemáticas, poderemos verificar a forma como estabelece um jogo entre dicotomias e representa, simultaneamente, um olhar sobre a definição do espectador face ao espaço e ao tempo
