El mito de Pigmalión en textos literarios y fílmicos

In this essay we will take Roland Barthes’ definition of Myth as the starting point for the analysis of several classical and contemporary versions of the myth of Pygmalion. According to Barthes, myth is not eternal, it is transient and human history can subvert and deconstruct it. This is what happens with the contemporary versions of this myth. Opposed to the classical versions that insist on the gender construction, contemporary examples subvert the pygmalonian character, erasing him from the scene or the screen so that the oppressed characters become owners of their lives, articulated and empowered.<br><br>En este estudio se tomará como punto de partida a Roland Barthes y su definición de mito en el análisis de versiones clásicas y contemporáneas del mito de Pigmalión. Para Barthes, un mito no es eterno, sino transitorio ya que el curso de la historia de los pueblos puede subvertirlo y deconstruirlo. Así ocurre en las representaciones contemporáneas de Pigmalión. Al contrario de las versiones clásicas, que perpetúan la construcción de género, las obras más contemporáneas subvierten al personaje pigmalioniano, le restan importancia hasta hacerlo casi desaparecer, y son los personajes, en principio, subordinados quienes se forjan su educación hasta conseguir su articulación personal

Las democracias en América Latina se consideran aún en proceso de consolidación ya que la insatisfacción de actores políticos y sociales dan lugar a que los gobiernos intenten finalizar con el sistema democrático dando paso al autoritarismo a través de los autogolpes de Estado. En algunos países, como Venezuela o Perú esta crisis del régimen ha prosperado; en otros, como Guatemala, la oposición de los grupos de presión ha impedido que el autogolpe de Estado se consolidara gracias a la utilización de formas y técnicas de las relaciones públicas profesionales.The democracies in Latin America are considered still in process of consolidation since the dissatisfaction of political and social actors, they give place to which the governments try to finish with the democratic system giving step to the authoritarianism across the self-coups of State. In some countries, as Venezuela or Peru, this crisis of the regime have prospered; in others, as Guatemala, the opposition of the groups of pressure they have prevented that the selfcoup of State was consolidated thanks to the utilization of forms and technologies (skills) of public professional relations

Pliensbachian–Toarcian ostracod biogeography in NW Europe: Evidence for water mass structure evolution

This paper examines the role played by palaeoceanographic and climatic conditions on the palaeobiogeography of the Pliensbachian–Toarcian ostracods (Early Jurassic) in the European Epicontinental Sea (EES). The influence of the palaeogeography, ocean currents and sea level, temperature and salinity variations on ostracod abundance, diversity and migration patterns is reconstructed. Ostracod migration follows an anticlockwise circulation in the eastern side of the EES, with a leading northeast–southwest movement, and the frequent arrival of Tethyan faunas into the central and western parts of the EES during the Pliensbachian. A three-fold classification of water masses based on salinity, temperature, lithological and fossil data is proposed. The repeated inflow of Tethyan ostracods into the EES ended by the earliest Toarcian. This ostracod event is related to the opening of the Hispanic Corridor and to the reorganization of the surface and deep circulations that may have generated a cold episode at the beginning of the Toarcian

La representación de la mujer religiosa en la literatura contemporánea

En la última década del siglo XX existió un interés creciente por revisar y reescribir las biografías de mujeres como Hildegard Von Bingen y Teresa de Ávila, cuyas vidas de ficción transcurren en el interior de los conventos y los claustros, pero que saben cómo transgredir y burlar las reglas impuestas por las autoridades patriarcales. Obras como la de Joan Ohanneson, Una luz tan intensa (1998), la de Josefina Molina, En el umbral de la hoguera (1999), la de Michèle Roberts, Impossible Saints (1997) o la de Carmel Bird, The White Garden (1995) arrojan nuevas luces a las vidas de Hildegard, la monja de la Edad Media, y a la de Teresa de Ávila, la mística española, y muestran la importancia que han tenido los espacios en la articulación personal. Ya sea que ellas salgan de las celdas de los conventos de manera literal o metafórica, ya sea que esto ocurra de manera abierta o encubierta, estas mujeres formidables han sabido cómo desafiar al patriarcado y hacer de sus espacios un lugar de libertad.In the last decade of the twentieth century there existed a growing interest for revising and rewriting the biographies of women such as Hildegard Von Bingen and Teresa of Ávila whose fictionalised lives happen within the limits of convents and cloisters, but who know how to transgress and outwit the rules imposed by the patriarchal authorities. Works such as Joan Ohanneson’s Scarlet Music (1998), Josefina Molina’s En el umbral de la hoguera (1999), Michèle Roberts’ Impossible Saints (1997) or Carmel Bird’s The White Garden (1995) throw new lights on the lives of the Medieval nun and the Spanish mystic and show the importance of the spaces they have for self-realisation. Whether they step out of the convent cells in a literal or a metaphorical way, and whether this happens openly or subversively, these outstanding women know how to defy the dictates of patriarchy and make of these places a space of freedom

Crimen y castigo en la Inglaterra de la Reina Victoria: "el caso de Lady Sannox"

En este artículo se analiza “El caso de Lady Sannox” de Arthur Conan Doyle siguiendo un enfoque postestructuralista feminista. La historia está ambientada en el último tercio del reinado de la reina Victoria, una época en la que la sociedad patriarcal trataba desesperadamente de frenar los avances de las mujeres en la sociedad. Valiéndose de lo que Ellen Moers llama “gótico femenino” Doyle muestra la falta de espacios que las mujeres tenían para su articulación y la urdimbre tejida por Lord Sannox para dar una lección moral a su esposa. Su venganza es terrible porque Lady Sannox se convertirá en una mujer fragmentada/castrada que no podrá articular sus deseos. In this paper I aim at analysing “The Case of Lady Sannox” by Arthur Conan Doyle following a poststructuralist feminist approach. The story is set in the last third of Victorian reign, a period in which patriarchal society was trying desperately to refrain the progression of women in society. By means of what Ellen Moers calls “the female Gothic” Doyle shows the lack of space women had for their articulation and the plot Lord Sannox contrives to give a moral lesson to his wife. His revenge is terrible because Lady Sannox will become a fragmented/castrated woman unable to articulate her desires in life
