New insights on post-myocardial infarction ventricular tachycardia ablation: defining patient-tailored endpoints to improve outcome

    Get PDF
The aim of this thesis is to provide new insights on catheter ablation of VT in patients with prior MI. Improved understanding of the VT substrate in different types of MI, and in particular, in contemporary non-transmural reperfused infarctions, a critical reassessment of the value of non-inducibility as ablation endpoint and the development of new physiologically meaningful endpoints for substrate modification will hopefully contribute to optimize procedural outcomes in this patient population. In addition, recognition of the limitations of the technique will aid in patient selection and will help to consider alternative treatment options in some individuals.LUMC / Geneeskund

Effects of the interaction of diabetes and iron supplementation on hepatic and pancreatic tissues, oxidative stress markers, and liver peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-α expression

This study evaluated the effects of the interaction of diabetes and a carbonyl iron supplemented on hepatic and pancreatic tissues, oxidative stress markers and liver peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-α expressions. Hamsters were divided: Control which received a standard AIN 93 diet; Control Iron, composed of control animals that received a diet with 0.83% carbonyl iron; Diabetic, composed of animals that received a injection of streptozotocin (50 mg/kg, intraperitoneal) on day 35; and Diabetic Iron composed of streptozotocin treated animals that received a diet supplemented with carbonyl iron. Diabetes increased the glucose level and reduced triglycerides. Diabetic Iron group showed higher levels of glucose and serum triglycerides as compared to the Diabetic group. Diabetes decreased mRNA levels of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-α. Iron attenuated the diabetes induced down regulation of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-α mRNA. Moreover, diabetes increased carbonyl protein and decreased glutathione levels and catalase activity, while iron attenuated the increase in levels of carbonyl protein and attenuated the decrease in those of glutathione level and catalase activity. Histological analysis shows that supplementation iron caused an increase in the size of the islets in Control Iron. The results show that iron does not aggravated liver oxidant/antioxidant status and peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-α expression in diabetic hamsters

SOCIAL ORGANIZATION BASED ON CHAIN-NETWORK LOGIC TO PROMOTE THE EXPLORATION OF NATIVE AÇAÍ IN WESTERN BRAZILIAN AMAZON.

The present paper has the objective to expose a proposition of organization within a chain and network logic, aiming to potentiate the extraction of the Native Açaí Berry at the Western Brazilian Amazon rainforest. This exploratory study involves the municipalities of Porto Velho, Guajará-Mirim and Machadinho D’Oeste, at the Brazilian state of Rondônia, with primary data originating mostly from conservation areas at the lower Madeira River region. As a result, it was possible to infer that from the native Açai Berry, derives food, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics, for both local consumption and international markets. It was found that beyond Açai Berry plantations availability, the lower Madeira River provides better transport logistic, consumer market and greater possibility of interaction with middleman than most Açai production areas. As a conclusion, it is made a proposition of an organizational arrangement to strengthen the extrativist productive chain of the Native Açaí Berry, based on the network and chain logic, oriented towards an organization based upon social organizations, manufacturing regularization and marketing

The Advertisement Calls and Distribution of Two Sympatric Species of Chiasmocleis (Méhely 1904) (Anura, Microhylidae, Gastrophryninae) from the Atlantic Forest

The advertisement calls of Chiasmocleis cordeiroi and C. crucis are described for populations from the municipalities of Igrapiúna and Camacan, respectively, state of Bahia, Brazil. Both calls consist of multipulsed notes produced in series. Differences between the two calls are: dominant frequency, higher in C. cordeiroi (range 4500–4898 Hz; C. crucis range 4069–4435 Hz); note rate, higher in C. cordeiroi (range 6.20–7.46 s/note; C. crucis range 5.17–5.59 s/note); pulse rate, higher in C. cordeiroi (151.82–194.83 s/note; C. crucis range 125.30– 142.12 s/note); and the structure of the modulation patterns of the notes. Moreover, the advertisement calls of C. crucis and C. cordeiroi are more similar than the calls of all syntopic congeners. Furthermore, the current distribution of both species was extended

Experiences of Nurse Participation in Educational Programmes for Accompanying Relatives in the Hospital-Home Environment

Health care requires special continuity at the hospital-home discharge interface. The family caregiver is involved due to their intrinsic capacity to accompany the patient. For Institutions Providers of Health Services, it is essential to evaluate the participation of the nurse in the Accompanying Family Program. The objective is to describe the scientific evidence on the experiences of participation of the patient in the Accompanying Family Program. A descriptive analysis of 40 articles of a quantitative and qualitative nature, was carried out using databases: Pubmed, Scielo, Scopus, Medline and EBSCO; Selecting for analysis, articles published no more than 5 years ago. The transcendent aspects highlight that the nurse initiates the accompaniment of the family caregiver during the patient's hospitalization, through education prior to discharge, strengthens the caregiver's capacities for the patient's recovery, the personal growth of the caregiver and the professional nurse. The experience visualizes cost-effective nuances and projects opportunities, based on concrete mechanisms of articulation of education for care in hospitalization and at home
