Reducing the Number of Annotations in a Verification-oriented Imperative Language

Automated software verification is a very active field of research which has made enormous progress both in theoretical and practical aspects. Recently, an important amount of research effort has been put into applying these techniques on top of mainstream programming languages. These languages typically provide powerful features such as reflection, aliasing and polymorphism which are handy for practitioners but, in contrast, make verification a real challenge. In this work we present Pest, a simple experimental, while-style, multiprocedural, imperative programming language which was conceived with verifiability as one of its main goals. This language forces developers to concurrently think about both the statements needed to implement an algorithm and the assertions required to prove its correctness. In order to aid programmers, we propose several techniques to reduce the number and complexity of annotations required to successfully verify their programs. In particular, we show that high-level iteration constructs may alleviate the need for providing complex loop annotations.Comment: 15 pages, 8 figure

    Cooperative sensing of spectrum opportunities

    Get PDF
Reliability and availability of sensing information gathered from local spectrum sensing (LSS) by a single Cognitive Radio is strongly affected by the propagation conditions, period of sensing, and geographical position of the device. For this reason, cooperative spectrum sensing (CSS) was largely proposed in order to improve LSS performance by using cooperation between Secondary Users (SUs). The goal of this chapter is to provide a general analysis on CSS for cognitive radio networks (CRNs). Firstly, the theoretical system model for centralized CSS is introduced, together with a preliminary discussion on several fusion rules and operative modes. Moreover, three main aspects of CSS that substantially differentiate the theoretical model from realistic application scenarios are analyzed: (i) the presence of spatiotemporal correlation between decisions by different SUs; (ii) the possible mobility of SUs; and (iii) the nonideality of the control channel between the SUs and the Fusion Center (FC). For each aspect, a possible practical solution for network organization is presented, showing that, in particular for the first two aspects, cluster-based CSS, in which sensing SUs are properly chosen, could mitigate the impact of such realistic assumptions

The Awakening, written by Kate Chopin, and Old Mortality by Katherine Anne Porter are two great works that focus on female protagonists, Edna Pontellier and Aunt Amy, who, living in times when society limited women, sought self-realization and to find their identity. The objective of this dissertation is to compare and analyze the personality of both characters from a psychological, familial, and social point of view. The purpose of this study is to analyze their similarities and differences, both in their personalities and in their path towards the growth and expression of their identity. This paper intends to establish a global valuation of the carriera of Hamilcar\ud Barca as tactician and strategist, not according to the global qualifications of his\ud value settled by the sources (Diodorus and Polybius, mainly), but according to\ud the real development of his campaigns as depicted by those very sources.\ud Development and results which are not adjusted to the excellent global\ud qualifications settled in the original sources about the famous Carthaginian leader.\ud Aspect this one especially interesting to the valuation of the original sources on\ud the topic, as well as on their origin

Pacto y alianza que silencian las fuentes y que se ven traicionados en 270 a.C.This paper deals with the presence of Campaniens (i.e. Oscans and Suritalians in\ud general) in both sides of the Messina Strait, its historical development and chronology, as well as the crcumstances which made possible the role they played in the area around fitheen years. In the case of Reghium, there are traces of a pact between Rome and the treacherous garrison at the moment of the Roman conquest in 270 B.C

Performance evaluation of non-prefiltering vs. time reversal prefiltering in distributed and uncoordinated IR-UWB ad-hoc networks

    Get PDF
Time Reversal (TR) is a prefiltering scheme mostly analyzed in the context of centralized and synchronous IR-UWB networks, in order to leverage the trade-off between communication performance and device complexity, in particular in presence of multiuser interference. Several strong assumptions have been typically adopted in the analysis of TR, such as the absence of Inter-Symbol / Inter-Frame Interference (ISI/IFI) and multipath dispersion due to complex signal propagation. This work has the main goal of comparing the performance of TR-based systems with traditional non-prefiltered schemes, in the novel context of a distributed and uncoordinated IR-UWB network, under more realistic assumptions including the presence of ISI/IFI and multipath dispersion. Results show that, lack of power control and imperfect channel knowledge affect the performance of both non-prefiltered and TR systems; in these conditions, TR prefiltering still guarantees a performance improvement in sparse/low-loaded and overloaded network scenarios, while the opposite is true for less extreme scenarios, calling for the developement of an adaptive scheme that enables/disables TR prefiltering depending on network conditions

Narrowband Internet of Things (NB-IoT) is gaining momentum as a promising technology for massive Machine Type Communication (mMTC). Given that its deployment is rapidly progressing worldwide, measurement campaigns and performance analyses are needed to better understand the system and move toward its enhancement. With this aim, this paper presents a large scale measurement campaign and empirical analysis of NB-IoT on operational networks, and discloses valuable insights in terms of deployment strategies and radio coverage performance. The reported results also serve as examples showing the potential usage of the collected dataset, which we make open-source along with a lightweight data visualization platform.Comment: Accepted for publication in IEEE Communications Magazine (Internet of Things and Sensor Networks Series
