    Optimal Planning of Standalone Solar-Wind-Diesel Hybrid Energy System for a Coastal Area of Bangladesh

    For sustainable development of a country access to electricity in every moment is now the basic need for the current civilization. Power crisis is one of the major barriers for economic development of Bangladesh. Bangladesh lacks in fossil fuel reservation. Abundance of renewable energy sources in the form of solar energy, wind energy provides opportunities of renewable energy based hybrid energy system in the coastal areas of Bnagladesh. Energy generation by hybrid system reduces the generation cost and will help in balancing the cost of energy. Again a standalone renewable enegy incorporated hybrid energy system will reduce load demand from the grid and will be an eco-friendly energy system. This paper proposed a cost effective design of standalone solar-wind-diesel hybrid power system in a coastal area of Bangladesh. Considering different conditions for a coastal area design and simulation of the hybrid power system was performed. Detailed economic analysis and comparison with solar based and diesel based energy system clearly reveals that proposed hybrid power system was found a cost effective solution for coastal areas of bangladesh.DOI:http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijece.v2i6.83

    Empowering leadership and group trust on effective knowledge sharing behavior: a case of Gen Y in the Maldives

    The art and science of knowledge management has gained much attention due to the widely acknowledged belief and evidence that knowledge in all its forms are a critical resource to achieving and sustaining competitively advantageous success in organizations. Knowledge, particularly tacit knowledge, comes from people ergo employees in organizations. Much of the present and near-future workforce demographics are composed of Gen Y cohorts. With more awareness to maximise ones’ opportunities and the capacity to be occupationally and geographically mobile, such Gen Y employees tend to shift themselves around, often taking valuable knowledge with them before they can be internalized and harnessed properly by organizations. As such, knowledge sharing practices and issues has garnered much attention in academic and practical paradigms. Amidst this includes the study of how various human based exchange elements such as contemporary leadership aspects and team dynamics influence the sharing behaviours.The Maldives is a developing country with a very large composition of the aforementioned Gen Y workforce. This, alongside concentrated working populations indicate that leadership and social capital considerations may matter profoundly to Gen Y employees towards positive outcomes such as knowledge sharing behaviour. This is essential for managers, since the Gen Y can be mobile and take their knowledge with them. The main objective of this study as such, was placed on examining the significance of empowering leadership—a contemporary leadership approach gaining fast traction worldwide, and interpersonal group trust upon influencing effective knowledge sharing behaviour among Gen Y employees in the Maldives. The study also aimed at making conceptual contributions by proposing a theoretically backed relation between the specifically proposed empowering leadership and interpersonal group trust. Much of these research interests were motivated by the paucity of existent research in the specific contexts. Data was collected through 306 survey questionnaires, which was analysed and tested further using SPSS for descriptive, correlation and regression analyses. The results indicated that empowering leadership and interpersonal group trust are indeed significant and powerful influencers to the Maldivian Gen Y employees working in service sectors, with the latter variable having a comparatively stronger sway. The theoretical relation proposed was also found to have relational significance. In light of the generally positive findings, cost-efficient yet effective recommendations were proposed and directed to both team leaders and HR practitioners on how to maintain consistency and improve upon the relatively weaker areas of the empowering leadership dimensions and interpersonal group trust. The study in general contributes to enrichment of the theory and conceptual research literature, as well as profiling the Maldives and region within the research contexts, which opens and facilitates avenues for further study and research

    Secure Bluetooth Communication in Smart Healthcare Systems: A Novel Community Dataset and Intrusion Detection System †

IoMT is a common approach to smart city solutions that deliver long-term benefits to critical infrastructures, such as smart healthcare. Many of the IoMT devices in smart cities use Bluetooth technology for short-range communication due to its flexibility, low resource consumption, and flexibility. As smart healthcare applications rely on distributed control optimization, artificial intelligence (AI) and deep learning (DL) offer effective approaches to mitigate cyber-attacks. This paper presents a decentralized, predictive, DL-based process to autonomously detect and block malicious traffic and provide an end-to-end defense against network attacks in IoMT devices. Furthermore, we provide the BlueTack dataset for Bluetooth-based attacks against IoMT networks. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first intrusion detection dataset for Bluetooth classic and Bluetooth low energy (BLE). Using the BlueTack dataset, we devised a multi-layer intrusion detection method that uses deep-learning techniques. We propose a decentralized architecture for deploying this intrusion detection system on the edge nodes of a smart healthcare system that may be deployed in a smart city. The presented multi-layer intrusion detection models achieve performances in the range of 97–99.5% based on the F1 scores.Peer reviewe

    Instability in CH3NH3PbI3 perovskite solar cells due to elemental migration and chemical composition changes

    Organic-inorganic halide perovskites have rapidly grown as favorable materials for photovoltaic applications, but accomplishing long-term stability is still a major research problem. This work demonstrates a new insight on instability and degradation factors in CH3NH3PbI3 perovskite solar cells aging with time in open air. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) has been used to investigate the compositional changes caused by device degradation over the period of 1000 hrs. XPS spectra confirm the migration of metallic ions from the bottom electrode (ITO) as a key factor causing the chemical composition change in the perovskite layer besides the diffusion of oxygen. XPS results are in good agreement with the crystallographic marks. Glow discharge optical emission spectrometry (GD-OES) has also been performed on the samples to correlate the XPS results.     The XXL Survey V: Detection of the Sunyaev-Zel'dovich effect of the Redshift 1.9 Galaxy Cluster XLSSU J021744.1-034536 with CARMA

    We report the detection of the Sunyaev-Zel'dovich (SZ) effect of galaxy cluster XLSSU J021744.1-034536, using 30 GHz CARMA data. This cluster was discovered via its extended X-ray emission in the XMM-Newton Large Scale Structure survey, the precursor to the XXL survey. It has a photometrically determined redshift z=1.910.21+0.19z=1.91^{+0.19}_{-0.21}, making it among the most distant clusters known, and nominally the most distant for which the SZ effect has been measured. The spherically integrated Comptonization is Y500=(3.0±0.4)×1012Y_{500}=(3.0\pm0.4)\times 10^{-12}, a measurement which is relatively insensitive to assumptions regarding the size and redshift of the cluster, as well as the background cosmology. Using a variety of locally calibrated cluster scaling relations extrapolated to z~2, we estimate a mass M500(1M_{500} \sim (1-2)×1014Msun2)\times 10^{14}M_{sun} from the X-ray flux and SZ signal. The measured properties of this cluster are in good agreement with the extrapolation of an X-ray luminosity-SZ effect scaling relation calibrated from clusters discovered by the South Pole Telescope at higher masses and lower redshifts. The full XXL-CARMA sample will provide a more complete, multi-wavelength census of distant clusters in order to robustly extend the calibration of cluster scaling relations to these high redshifts.Comment: ApJ, in press. 9 pages, 4 figures, 4 table

    Constraints on the Thermal Contents of the X-ray Cavities of Cluster MS 0735.6+7421 with Sunyaev-Zel'dovich Effect Observations

    Outbursts from active galactic nuclei (AGN) can inflate cavities in the intracluster medium (ICM) of galaxy clusters and are believed to play the primary role in offsetting radiative cooling in the ICM. However, the details of how the energy from AGN feedback thermalizes to heat the ICM is not well understood, partly due to the unknown composition and energetics of the cavities. The Sunyaev-Zel'dovich (SZ) effect, a measure of the integrated pressure along the line of sight, provides a means of measuring the thermal contents of the cavities, to discriminate between thermal, nonthermal, and other sources of pressure support. Here we report measurements of the SZ effect at 30 GHz toward the galaxy cluster MS 0735.6+7421 (MS0735), using the Combined Array for Research in Millimeter-wave Astronomy (CARMA). MS0735 hosts the most energetic AGN outburst known and lobes of radio synchrotron emission coincident with a pair of giant X-ray cavities 200\sim 200 across. Our CARMA maps show a clear deficit in the SZ signal coincident with the X-ray identified cavities, when compared to a smooth X-ray derived pressure model. We find that the cavities have very little SZ-contributing material, suggesting that they are either supported by very diffuse thermal plasma with temperature in excess of hundreds of keV, or are not supported thermally.     CARMA Measurements of the Sunyaev-Zel'dovich Effect in RXJ1347.5-1145

    We demonstrate the Sunyaev-Zel'dovich (SZ) effect imaging capabilities of the Combined Array for Research in Millimeter-wave Astronomy (CARMA) by presenting an SZ map of the galaxy cluster RXJ1347.5-1145. By combining data from multiple CARMA bands and configurations, we are able to capture the structure of this cluster over a wide range of angular scales, from its bulk properties to its core morphology. We find that roughly 9% of this cluster's thermal energy is associated with sub-arcminute-scale structure imparted by a merger, illustrating the value of high-resolution SZ measurements for pursuing cluster astrophysics and for understanding the scatter in SZ scaling relations. We also find that the cluster's SZ signal is lower in amplitude than suggested by a spherically-symmetric model derived from X-ray data, consistent with compression along the line of sight relative to the plane of the sky. Finally, we discuss the impact of upgrades currently in progress that will further enhance CARMA's power as an SZ imaging instrument.Comment: 8 pages, 6 figure

    The Massive and Distant Clusters of WISE Survey VI: Stellar Mass Fractions of a Sample of High-Redshift Infrared-selected Clusters

    We present measurements of the stellar mass fractions (ff_\star) for a sample of high-redshift (0.93z1.320.93 \le z \le 1.32) infrared-selected galaxy clusters from the Massive and Distant Clusters of WISE Survey (MaDCoWS) and compare them to the stellar mass fractions of Sunyaev-Zel'dovich (SZ) effect-selected clusters in a similar mass and redshift range from the South Pole Telescope (SPT)-SZ Survey. We do not find a significant difference in mean ff_\star between the two selection methods, though we do find an unexpectedly large range in ff_\star for the SZ-selected clusters. In addition, we measure the luminosity function of the MaDCoWS clusters and find m=19.41±0.07m^*= 19.41\pm0.07, similar to other studies of clusters at or near our redshift range. Finally, we present SZ detections and masses for seven MaDCoWS clusters and new spectroscopic redshifts for five MaDCoWS clusters. One of these new clusters, MOO J1521+0452 at z=1.31z=1.31, is the most distant MaDCoWS cluster confirmed to date.Comment: Accepted to Ap
