Evaluation of Cathode Gas Composition and Temperature Influences on Alkaline Anion Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell (AAEMFC) Performance
The effects of different temperatures (55, 65, 75 and 85 °C) and cathode gas compositions (O2, synthetic air, air and 90% synthetic air+10% CO2) on alkaline anion exchange membrane fuel cell (AAEMFC) were evaluated. Membrane electrode assemblies (MEA) were fabricated using commercial anion exchange membrane (AEM) in OH- form and Pt catalyst. Polarization curves and voltage responses during constant current were performed in order to describe the influences of temperature and gas composition on the AAEMFC performance. The experimental results showed that the fuel cell performance increases with elevating temperatures for all applied gas compositions. Highest power density of 34.7 mW cm-2 was achieved for pure O2 as cathode feed. A decrease to 20.3 mW cm-2 was observed when cathode gas composition was changed to synthetic air due to reduction of the O2 partial pressure. The presence of CO2 in atmospheric air applied to the cathode stream caused a further drop of the maximum power density to 15.2 mW cm-2 driven by neutralization of OH- ions with CO2
Agricultural policies exacerbate honeybee pollination service supply-demand mismatches across Europe
Declines in insect pollinators across Europe have raised concerns about the supply of pollination services to agriculture. Simultaneously, EU agricultural and biofuel policies have encouraged substantial growth in the cultivated area of insect pollinated crops across the continent. Using data from 41 European countries, this study demonstrates that the recommended number of honeybees required to provide crop pollination across Europe has risen 4.9 times as fast as honeybee stocks between 2005 and 2010. Consequently, honeybee stocks were insufficient to supply >90% of demands in 22 countries studied. These findings raise concerns about the capacity of many countries to cope with major losses of wild pollinators and highlight numerous critical gaps in current understanding of pollination service supplies and demands, pointing to a pressing need for further research into this issue
The OpenMolcas Web: A Community-Driven Approach to Advancing Computational Chemistry
The developments of the open-source OpenMolcas chemistry software environment since spring 2020 are described, with a focus on novel functionalities accessible in the stable branch of the package or via interfaces with other packages. These developments span a wide range of topics in computational chemistry and are presented in thematic sections: electronic structure theory, electronic spectroscopy simulations, analytic gradients and molecular structure optimizations, ab initio molecular dynamics, and other new features. This report offers an overview of the chemical phenomena and processes OpenMolcas can address, while showing that OpenMolcas is an attractive platform for state-of-the-art atomistic computer simulations

Overview of the Current Knowledge and Conventional MRI Characteristics of Peri- and Para-Vascular Spaces
Brain spaces around (perivascular spaces) and alongside (paravascular or VirchowâRobin spaces) vessels have gained significant attention in recent years due to the advancements of in vivo imaging tools and to their crucial role in maintaining brain health, contributing to the anatomic foundation of the glymphatic system. In fact, it is widely accepted that peri- and para-vascular spaces function as waste clearance pathways for the brain for materials such as Ă-amyloid by allowing exchange between cerebrospinal fluid and interstitial fluid. Visible brain spaces on magnetic resonance imaging are often a normal finding, but they have also been associated with a wide range of neurological and systemic conditions, suggesting their potential as early indicators of intracranial pressure and neurofluid imbalance. Nonetheless, several aspects of these spaces are still controversial. This article offers an overview of the current knowledge and magnetic resonance imaging characteristics of peri- and para-vascular spaces, which can help in daily clinical practice image description and interpretation. This paper is organized into different sections, including the microscopic anatomy of peri- and para-vascular spaces, their associations with pathological and physiological events, and their differential diagnosis
Long-term results of a prospective phase 2 study on volume De-escalation in neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy of rectal cancer
Purpose: In the current study, we evaluated whether neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy with reduced treatment volumes due to the exclusion of elective pelvic nodal irradiation is a feasible strategy for selected patients with locally advanced rectal cancer. Methods and materials: Patients with T2 low-lying/T3, N0-N1 rectal lesions without evidence of disease in the lateral lymph nodes were prospectively recruited. All patients underwent pretreatment testing, including computed tomography imaging of the chest, abdomen, and pelvis with intravenous contrast, pelvic magnetic resonance imaging with intravenous contrast, and 18-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission/computed tomography. The clinical target volume included the primary tumor and the mesorectum with vascular supply containing the perirectal and presacral nodes, with the upper border at the S2/S3 interspace. The total radiation dose was 50.4 Gy, and fluoropyrimidine-based chemotherapy was associated concomitantly. The primary endpoint of the study was the reduction of gastrointestinal (GI) toxicity, and the secondary endpoints were pathologic complete response, local control, overall survival, and disease-free survival. Results: Fifty-two patients (30 men, 22 women) with a median age of 67 years (range, 45-85 years) were enrolled in the study. Acute grade 3 GI toxicity was 7.6%, and there were no cases of grade 4 toxicity. Three patients (5.7%) developed a local recurrence. No relapse occurred in the lateral lymph nodes. The local control rate at 5 years was 96.1%. With a median follow-up time of 72.9 months (range, 2.5-127.6 months), the 3- and 5-year overall survival rates were 89.4% and 87%, respectively. The 3- and 5-year disease-free survival rates were 82.4% and 82.4%, respectively. Conclusions: De-escalation of radiation therapy target volume reduces GI side effects without compromising efficacy in patients with rectal cancer. These results cannot be clearly extended to high-risk disease and need further evaluation in future randomized trials
