Attachment working models as unconscious structures: An experimental test

Internal working models of attachment (IWMs) are presumed to be largely unconscious representations of childhood attachment experiences. Several instruments have been developed to assess IWMs; some of them are based on self-report and others on narrative interview techniques. This study investigated the capacity of a self-report measure, the Inventory of Parent and Peer Attachment (IPPA; Armsden & Greenberg, 1987), and of a narrative interview method, the Adult Attachment Interview (AAI; George, Kaplan, & Main, 1985), to measure unconscious attachment models. We compared scores on the two attachment instruments to response latencies in an attachment priming task. It was shown that attachment organisation assessed by the AAI correlates with priming effects, whereas the IPPA scales were inversely or not related to priming. The results are interpreted as support for the assumption that the AAI assesses, to a certain degree, unconscious working models of attachment

A new method for fluorescence staining of bacterial populations on membrane filters

This article describes and discusses a new method for the fluorescence microscopic examination of bacteria on Nuclepore membrane filters. The bacteria, which have been concentrated by filtration, are stained with a solution of acridine orange. Then the filters are destained with isopropyl alkohol and xylene. This method makes it possible to recognize small bacteria and to distinguish them from detritus. Die durch Filtration angereicherten Keime werden mit einer Akridinorange-Lösung gefärbt. AnschlieBend werden die Filter mit Isopropanol und Xylol entfärbt. Diese Methode ermöglicht es, auch kleine Bakterien zu erkennen und sie von Detritus zu unterscheiden

Duality, Superconvergence and the Phases of Gauge Theories

Results about the phase structure of certain N=1 supersymmetric gauge theories, which have been obtained as a consequence of holomorphy and `electric-magnetic' duality, are shown to be in quantitative agreement with corresponding consequences of analyticity and superconvergence of the gauge field propagator. This connection is of interest, because the superconvergence arguments for confinement are not restricted to theories with supersymmetry. The method of reduction in the space of coupling parameters is used in order to define, beyond the matching conditions, an asymptotically free, dual magnetic theory involving Yukawa couplings.Comment: 20 pages, Late
