    Known and Potential Invertebrate Vectors of Raspberry Viruses

    The estimated global production of raspberry from year 2016 to 2020 averaged 846,515 tons. The most common cultivated Rubus spp. is European red raspberry (Rubus idaeus L. subsp. idaeus). Often cultivated for its high nutritional value, the red raspberry (Rubus idaeus) is susceptible to multiple viruses that lead to yield loss. These viruses are transmitted through different mechanisms, of which one is invertebrate vectors. Aphids and nematodes are known to be vectors of specific raspberry viruses. However, there are still other potential raspberry virus vectors that are not well-studied. This review aimed to provide an overview of studies related to this topic. All the known invertebrates feeding on raspberry were summarized. Eight species of aphids and seven species of plant-parasitic nematodes were the only proven raspberry virus vectors. In addition, the eriophyid mite, Phyllocoptes gracilis, has been suggested as the natural vector of raspberry leaf blotch virus based on the current available evidence. Interactions between vector and non-vector herbivore may promote the spread of raspberry viruses. As a conclusion, there are still multiple aspects of this topic that require further studies to get a better understanding of the interactions among the viral pathogens, invertebrate vectors, and non-vectors in the raspberry agroecosystem.     Seasonally Transported Aerosol Layers Over Southeast Atlantic are Closer to Underlying Clouds than Previously Reported

    From June to October, low-level clouds in the southeast (SE) Atlantic often underlie seasonal aerosol layers transported from African continent. Previously, the Cloud-Aerosol Lidar and Infrared Pathfinder Satellite Observation (CALIPSO) 532 nm lidar observations have been used to estimate the relative vertical location of the above-cloud aerosols (ACA) to the underlying clouds. Here we show new observations from NASA's Cloud-Aerosol Transport System (CATS) lidar. Two seasons of CATS 1064 nm observations reveal that the bottom of the ACA layer is much lower than previously estimated based on CALIPSO 532 nm observations. For about 60% of CATS nighttime ACA scenes, the aerosol layer base is within 360 m distance to the top of the underlying cloud. Our results are important for future studies of the microphysical indirect and semidirect effects of ACA in the SE Atlantic region

    Evaluation of Hybrid VMAT Advantages and Robustness Considering Setup Errors Using Surface Guided Dose Accumulation for Internal Lymph Mammary Nodes Irradiation of Postmastectomy Radiotherapy

    ObjectivesSetup error is a key factor affecting postmastectomy radiotherapy (PMRT) and irradiation of the internal mammary lymph nodes is the most investigated aspect for PMRT patients. In this study, we evaluated the robustness, radiobiological, and dosimetric benefits of the hybrid volumetric modulated arc therapy (H-VMAT) planning technique based on the setup error in dose accumulation using a surface-guided system for radiation therapy.MethodsWe retrospectively selected 32 patients treated by a radiation oncologist and evaluated the clinical target volume (CTV), including internal lymph node irradiation (IMNIs), and considered the planning target volume (PTV) margin to be 5 mm. Three different planning techniques were evaluated: tangential-VMAT (T-VMAT), intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), and H-VMAT. The interfraction and intrafraction setup errors were analyzed in each field and the accumulated dose was evaluated as the patients underwent daily surface-guided monitoring. These parameters were included while evaluating CTV coverage, the dose required for the left anterior descending artery (LAD) and the left ventricle (LV), the normal tissue complication probability (NTCP) for the heart and lungs, and the second cancer complication probability (SCCP) for contralateral breast (CB).ResultsWhen the setup error was accounted for dose accumulation, T-VMAT (95.51%) and H-VMAT (95.48%) had a higher CTV coverage than IMRT (91.25%). In the NTCP for the heart, H-VMAT (0.04%) was higher than T-VMAT (0.01%) and lower than IMRT (0.2%). However, the SCCP (1.05%) of CB using H-VMAT was lower than that using T-VMAT (2%) as well as delivery efficiency. And T-VMAT (3.72) and IMRT (10.5).had higher plan complexity than H-VMAT (3.71).ConclusionsIn this study, based on the dose accumulation of setup error for patients with left-sided PMRT with IMNI, we found that the H-VMAT technique was superior for achieving an optimum balance between target coverage, OAR dose, complication probability, plan robustness, and complexity

    Genomic Analyses Reveal Mutational Signatures and Frequently Altered Genes in Esophageal Squamous Cell Carcinoma

    Esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) is one of the most common cancers worldwide and the fourth most lethal cancer in China. However, although genomic studies have identified some mutations associated with ESCC, we know little of the mutational processes responsible. To identify genome-wide mutational signatures, we performed either whole-genome sequencing (WGS) or whole-exome sequencing (WES) on 104 ESCC individuals and combined our data with those of 88 previously reported samples. An APOBEC-mediated mutational signature in 47% of 192 tumors suggests that APOBEC-catalyzed deamination provides a source of DNA damage in ESCC. Moreover, PIK3CA hotspot mutations (c.1624G>A [p.Glu542Lys] and c.1633G>A [p.Glu545Lys]) were enriched in APOBEC-signature tumors, and no smoking-associated signature was observed in ESCC. In the samples analyzed by WGS, we identified focal (<100 kb) amplifications of CBX4 and CBX8. In our combined cohort, we identified frequent inactivating mutations in AJUBA, ZNF750, and PTCH1 and the chromatin-remodeling genes CREBBP and BAP1, in addition to known mutations. Functional analyses suggest roles for several genes (CBX4, CBX8, AJUBA, and ZNF750) in ESCC. Notably, high activity of hedgehog signaling and the PI3K pathway in approximately 60% of 104 ESCC tumors indicates that therapies targeting these pathways might be particularly promising strategies for ESCC. Collectively, our data provide comprehensive insights into the mutational signatures of ESCC and identify markers for early diagnosis and potential therapeutic targets

The degree of structural rise in the prices of industrial and agricultural products in China is not only higher than in the general developed countries and developing countries, but also more prominent than in other transition economies. And the structural rise in the prices of Chinese industrial and agricultural products exhibits significant economic zone differences: the structural fluctuations are the greatest in the central and western regions, significantly higher than in the eastern regions as well as the national average. From the perspective of causes of structural rise in the prices of Chinese industrial and agricultural products, the government must aim to coordinate the industrial and agricultural investments and bridge the gap in the industrial and agricultural technologies and supply capacity

    Deadly discrimination: Implications of “Missing Girls” for workplace safety

    We examine an indirect but potentially deadly consequence of the “missing girls” phenomenon. A shortage of brides causes many parents with sons of marriageable age to work harder and seek higher-paying but dangerous jobs. In response, employers invest less in workplace safety, which in turn increases work-related mortality. Drawing from a broad range of data sets and taking advantage of large regional and temporal variations in sex ratios in China, we demonstrate that in areas with more severe shortages of young women, the cohort of parents with sons of marriageable age suffers a higher incidence of accidental injuries and workplace deaths.PRIFPRI3; ISI; IFPRIOADSG
