CH 3 GHz Observations of the Galactic Center
A 3 3 map of the Galactic Center was made at 9\arcmin resolution
and 10\arcmin spacing in the CH , J=1/2, F=1-1 transition at
3335 MHz. The CH emission shows a velocity extent that is nearly that of the
CO(1-0) line, but the CH line profiles differ markedly from the CO. The 3335
MHz CH transition primarily traces low-density molecular gas and our
observations indicate that the mass of this component within 30 pc of
the Galactic Center is 9 10 M. The CO-H
conversion factor obtained for the low-density gas in the mapped region is
greater than that thought to apply to the dense molecular gas at the Galactic
Center. In addition to tracing the low-density molecular gas at the Galactic
Center, the CH spectra show evidence of emission from molecular clouds along
the line of sight both in the foreground and background. The scale height of
these clouds ranges from 27 - 109 pc, consistent with previous work based on
observations of molecular clouds in the inner Galaxy.Comment: 29 pages, 12 figure
A Novel Therapy for Melanoma Developed in Mice: Transformation of Melanoma into Dendritic Cells with Listeria monocytogenes
Listeria monocytogenes is a gram-positive bacteria and human pathogen widely used in cancer immunotherapy because of its capacity to induce a specific cytotoxic T cell response in tumours. This bacterial pathogen strongly induces innate and specific immunity with the potential to overcome tumour induced tolerance and weak immunogenicity. Here, we propose a Listeria based vaccination for melanoma based in its tropism for these tumour cells and its ability to transform in vitro and in vivo melanoma cells into matured and activated dendritic cells with competent microbicidal and antigen processing abilities. This Listeria based vaccination using low doses of the pathogen caused melanoma regression by apoptosis as well as bacterial clearance. Vaccination efficacy is LLO dependent and implies the reduction of LLO-specific CD4+ T cell responses, strong stimulation of innate pro-inflammatory immune cells and a prevalence of LLO-specific CD8+ T cells involved in tumour regression and Listeria elimination. These results support the use of low doses of pathogenic Listeria as safe melanoma therapeutic vaccines that do not require antibiotics for bacterial removal
Impact of mobilization of residents in otolaryngology-head-neck surgery in COVID-19 units on mental health status.
To investigate mental health, sleep, and addiction features of young otolaryngologists (YO) according to the mobilization in COVID-19 units at the end of the third European wave of infections. A cross-sectional survey was sent to 220 YO of 6 European University hospitals. The following outcomes were evaluated: postgraduate year; age; management of COVID-19 patients; workload; nights on call; stress; Beck depression inventory; Insomnia severity index; sleep and mental health status evolutions throughout pandemic; consumption of alcohol, tobacco, and drugs before and during pandemic. A total of 128 YO completed the evaluations (58.2%). Twenty responders (15.6%) did not manage COVID-19 patients, while 65 (50.8%), 20 (15.6%), and 23 (18%) managed rarely, frequently or daily COVID-19 patients during the pandemic, respectively. The management of COVID-19 patients was associated with increases of workload (p = 0.023) and number of nights on-call (p  Young otolaryngologists (YO) mobilized in COVID-19 units reported higher hours worked, nights on call, and alcohol consumption compared with others. Future large cohort-studies are needed to confirm our observations
