On Vague Computers
Vagueness is something everyone is familiar with. In fact, most people think
that vagueness is closely related to language and exists only there. However,
vagueness is a property of the physical world. Quantum computers harness
superposition and entanglement to perform their computational tasks. Both
superposition and entanglement are vague processes. Thus quantum computers,
which process exact data without "exploiting" vagueness, are actually vague

Some Thoughts About Appealing Directions for the Future of Fuzzy Theory and Technologies Along the Path Traced by Lotfi Zadeh
The quoted text is an interesting instance of a fuzzy object: it is currently known in slightly diversified forms, each rather different from the quoted one, which corresponds to the first known appearance in English of this adage
Representing uncertainty regarding satisfaction degrees using possibility distributions
Evaluating flexible criteria on data leads to degrees of satisfaction. If a datum is uncertain, it can be uncertain to which degree it satisfies the criterion. This uncertainty can be modelled using a possibility distribution over the domain of possible degrees of satisfaction. In this work, we discuss the meaningfulness thereof by looking at the semantics of such a representation of the uncertainty. More specifically, it is shown that defuzzification of such a representation, towards usability in (multi-criteria) decision support systems, corresponds to expressing a clear attitude towards uncertainty (optimistic, pessimistic, cautious, etc.
Interval type-2 intuitionistic fuzzy logic systems - a comparative evaluation
Several fuzzy modeling techniques have been employed for handling uncertainties in data. This study presents a comparative evaluation of a new class of interval type-2 fuzzy logic system (IT2FLS) namely: interval type-2 intuitionistic fuzzy logic system (IT2IFLS) of Takagi Sugeno-Kang (TSK)-type with classical IT2FLS and its type-1 variant (IFLS). Simulations are conducted using a real-world gas compression system (GCS) dataset. Study shows that the performance of the proposed framework with membership functions (MFs) and non-membership functions (NMFs) that are each intervals is superior to classical IT2FLS with only MFs (upper and lower) and IFLS with MFs and NMFs that are not intervals in this problem domain
Knowledge discovery for friction stir welding via data driven approaches: Part 2 – multiobjective modelling using fuzzy rule based systems
In this final part of this extensive study, a new systematic data-driven fuzzy modelling approach has been developed, taking into account both the modelling accuracy and its interpretability (transparency) as attributes. For the first time, a data-driven modelling framework has been proposed designed and implemented in order to model the intricate FSW behaviours relating to AA5083 aluminium alloy, consisting of the grain size, mechanical properties, as well as internal process properties. As a result, ‘Pareto-optimal’ predictive models have been successfully elicited which, through validations on real data for the aluminium alloy AA5083, have been shown to be accurate, transparent and generic despite the conservative number of data points used for model training and testing. Compared with analytically based methods, the proposed data-driven modelling approach provides a more effective way to construct prediction models for FSW when there is an apparent lack of fundamental process knowledge
Slicing Strategies for the Generalised Type-2 Mamdani Fuzzy Inferencing System
The final publication is available at Springer via http://dx.doi.org/[insert DOI]".As a three-dimensional object, there are a number of ways of slicing a generalised type-2 fuzzy set. In the context of the Mamdani Fuzzy Inferencing System, this paper concerns three accepted slicing strategies, the vertical slice, the wavy slice, and the horizontal slice or alpha -plane. Two ways of de ning the generalised type-2 fuzzy set, vertical slices and wavy slices, are presented. Fuzzi cation and inferencing is presented in terms of vertical slices. After that, the application of all three slicing strategies to defuzzi cation is described, and their strengths
and weaknesses assessed
How best to Design Fuzzy Sets and Systems:In memory of Prof. Lotfi A. Zadeh
The fundamental shift in dealing with uncertainties [12] and computerised reasoning was made by the late Professor Lotfi Aliasker Zadeh (1921–2017) in 1965 in his seminal paper [1]. For the last over five decades the Fuzzy Sets theory has matured and was applied to a long list of applications spanning from engineering, social sciences, biology to transport, mathematics and many mor
Eigenlogic: a Quantum View for Multiple-Valued and Fuzzy Systems
We propose a matrix model for two- and many-valued logic using families of
observables in Hilbert space, the eigenvalues give the truth values of logical
propositions where the atomic input proposition cases are represented by the
respective eigenvectors. For binary logic using the truth values {0,1} logical
observables are pairwise commuting projectors. For the truth values {+1,-1} the
operator system is formally equivalent to that of a composite spin 1/2 system,
the logical observables being isometries belonging to the Pauli group. Also in
this approach fuzzy logic arises naturally when considering non-eigenvectors.
The fuzzy membership function is obtained by the quantum mean value of the
logical projector observable and turns out to be a probability measure in
agreement with recent quantum cognition models. The analogy of many-valued
logic with quantum angular momentum is then established. Logical observables
for three-value logic are formulated as functions of the Lz observable of the
orbital angular momentum l=1. The representative 3-valued 2-argument logical
observables for the Min and Max connectives are explicitly obtained.Comment: 11 pages, 2 table
Modeling and simulating for the treatment of subjectivity in the process of choosing personnel using fuzzy logic
Every day organizations pay more attention to Human Resources Management, because the human factor is preponderant in the results of it. One of the important policies is the Selection of Personnel, these are needed for their decision-making results, which in many organizations is done in a subjective manner and which brings consequences not very favorable to them. Taking this problem into account, it is decided to design and apply procedures and tools of fuzzy mathematics to reduce subjectivity and uncertainty in decision-making, creating work algorithms for this policy that includes multifactorial weights and analysis with measurement indicators that they allow tangible and reliable results. In this case of personnel selection, eight candidates were taken into account and by applying a diffuse evaluation system, the candidate with the highest rating of 98% was chosen. This indicates that subjectivity was reduced when choosing the best evaluated candidate
