    En los últimos años la imagen corporal se ha convertido en uno de los principales temas de interés para la sociedad, en especial entre adolescentes. La insatisfacción de la imagen corporal se asocia con alteraciones del estado de ánimo como: depresión y baja autoestima, considerando así un factor desencadenante de trastornos en la conducta alimentaria. Objetivo: Determinar la relación entre la insatisfacción de la imagen corporal, la autoestima, ansiedad y depresión de las adolescentes del Colegio Experimental 24 de Mayo. Metodología: Estudio transversal en estudiantes de bachillerato del Colegio Experimental 24 de Mayo de Quito. Después de solicitar la autorización a las au toridades del colegio para realizar el estudio, se firmó el consentimiento y el asentimiento informado. Las personas evaluadas llenaron los cuestionarios: Body Shape Questionnaire, Escala de autoestima de Rosenberg y Escala de Goldberg. Una vez obtenidos los datos en ciertos casos agrupamos a nuestra población: según la edad (adolescencia temprana, media y tardía), según su índice de masa corporal (peso bajo, peso normal, sobrepeso y obesidad), según el grado de insatisfacción corporal (leve, moderada, extrema) y según en nivel de autoestima (normal, media y baja); con la información recolectada se creó una base de datos en el Excel con la que se obtuvieron los resultados descriptivos y sirvió para ingresarla en el programa SPSS 19 y analizar los datos con la correlación de Pearson y Odds Ratio. Resultados: Se determinó que la media por edad se encuentra en 16,5 años con una desviación estándar de 1,14. El 25,2% presentó insatisfacción corporal leve, el 8% insatisfacción moderada y el 4,62% insatisfacción extrema. La insatisfacción corporal tiene correlación con la baja autoestima (r 0,275), ansiedad (r 0,696) y depresión (r 0,674); y se asocia con la edad y el índice de masa corporal (IMC) aunque estas asociaciones no son estadísticamente significativas. Conclusiones: Existe un nivel significativo de insatisfacción corporal en las adolescentes, que en algunos casos se acompaña de alteraciones afectivas como ansiedad y depresión. Entre los factores que influyen en el desarrollo de insatisfacción corporal se incluyen la edad, el nivel socioeconómico y el IMC, por lo que es importante que se realice un plan de diagnóstico y manejo dentro de la institución

    Facile control of nanoporosity in Cellulose Acetate using Nickel(II) nitrate additive and water pressure treatment for highly efficient battery gel separators

    We succeed in fabricating nearly straight nanopores in cellulose acetate (CA) polymers for use as battery gel separators by utilizing an inorganic hexahydrate (Ni(NO3)2??6H2O) complex and isostatic water pressure treatment. The continuous nanopores are generated when the polymer film is exposed to isostatic water pressure after complexing the nickel(II) nitrate hexahydrate (Ni(NO3)2??6H2O) with the CA. These results can be attributed to the manner in which the polymer chains are weakened because of the plasticization effect of the Ni(NO3)2??6H2O that is incorporated into the CA. Furthermore, we performed extensive molecular dynamics simulation for confirming the interaction between electrolyte and CA separator. The well controlled CA membrane after water pressure treatment enables fabrication of highly reliable cell by utilizing 2032-type coin cell structure. The resulting cell performance exhibits not only the effect of the physical morphology of CA separator, but also the chemical interaction of electrolyte with CA polymer which facilitates the Li-ion in the cell.ope

    Review of current Severe Accident Management (SAM) approaches for Nuclear Power Plants in Europe

    The Fukushima accidents highlighted that both the in-depth understanding of such sequences and the development or improvement of adequate Severe Accident Management (SAM) measures are essential in order to further increase the safety of the nuclear power plants operated in Europe. To support this effort, the CESAM (Code for European Severe Accident Management) R&D project, coordinated by GRS, started in April 2013 for 4 years in the 7th EC Framework Programme of research and development of the European Commission. It gathers 18 partners from 12 countries: IRSN, AREVA NP SAS and EDF (France), GRS, KIT, USTUTT and RUB (Germany), CIEMAT (Spain), ENEA (Italy), VUJE and IVS (Slovakia), LEI (Lithuania), NUBIKI (Hungary), INRNE (Bulgaria), JSI (Slovenia), VTT (Finland), PSI (Switzerland), BARC (India) plus the European Commission Joint Research Center (JRC). The CESAM project focuses on the improvement of the ASTEC (Accident Source Term Evaluation Code) computer code. ASTEC,, jointly developed by IRSN and GRS, is considered as the European reference code since it capitalizes knowledge from the European R&D on the domain. The project aims at its enhancement and extension for use in severe accident management (SAM) analysis of the nuclear power plants (NPP) of Generation II-III presently under operation or foreseen in near future in Europe, spent fuel pools included. In the frame of the CESAM project one of the tasks consisted in the preparation of a report providing an overview of the Severe Accident Management (SAM) approaches in European Nuclear Power Plants to serve as a basis for further ASTEC improvements. This report draws on the experience in several countries from introducing SAMGs and on substantial information that has become available within the EU “stress test”. To disseminate this information to a broader audience, the initial CESAM report has been revised to include only public available information.     Bending continuous structures with SMAs: a novel robotic fish design

    In this paper, we describe our research on bio-inspired locomotion systems using deformable structures and smart materials, concretely shape memory alloys (SMAs). These types of materials allow us to explore the possibility of building motor-less and gear-less robots. A swimming underwater fish-like robot has been developed whose movements are generated using SMAs. These actuators are suitable for bending the continuous backbone of the fish, which in turn causes a change in the curvature of the body. This type of structural arrangement is inspired by fish red muscles, which are mainly recruited during steady swimming for the bending of a flexible but nearly incompressible structure such as the fishbone. This paper reviews the design process of these bio-inspired structures, from the motivations and physiological inspiration to the mechatronics design, control and simulations, leading to actual experimental trials and results. The focus of this work is to present the mechanisms by which standard swimming patterns can be reproduced with the proposed design. Moreover, the performance of the SMA-based actuators’ control in terms of actuation speed and position accuracy is also addressed

    Preparation and Instability of Nanocrystalline Cuprous Nitride

    Low-dimensional cuprous nitride (Cu3N) was synthesized by nitridation (ammonolysis) of cuprous oxide (Cu2O) nanocrystals using either ammonia (NH3) or urea (H2NCONH2) as the nitrogen source. The resulting nanocrystalline Cu3N spontaneously decomposes to nanocrystalline CuO in the presence of both water and oxygen from air at room temperature. Ammonia was produced in 60% chemical yield during Cu3N decomposition, as measured using the colorimetric indophenol method. Because Cu3N decomposition requires H2O and produces substoichiometric amounts of NH3\u3e, we conclude that this reaction proceeds through a complex stoichiometry that involves the concomitant release of both N2 and NH3. This is a thermodynamically unfavorable outcome, strongly indicating that H2O (and thus NH3 production) facilitate the kinetics of the reaction by lowering the energy barrier for Cu3N decomposition. The three different Cu2O, Cu3N, and CuO nanocrystalline phases were characterized by a combination of optical absorption, powder X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, and electronic density of states obtained from electronic structure calculations on the bulk solids. The relative ease of interconversion between these interesting and inexpensive materials bears possible implications for catalytic and optoelectronic applications

    Ixazomib-lenalidomide-dexamethasone in routine clinical practice: Effectiveness in relapsed/refractory multiple myeloma

    [Aim]: To evaluate the effectiveness and safety of ixazomib-lenalidomide-dexamethasone (IRd) in relapsed/refractory multiple myeloma in routine clinical practice. Patients & methods: Patient-level data from the global, observational INSIGHT MM and the Czech Registry of Monoclonal Gammopathies were integrated and analyzed.[Results]: At data cut-off, 263 patients from 13 countries were included. Median time from diagnosis to start of IRd was 35.8 months; median duration of follow-up was 14.8 months. Overall response rate was 73%, median progression-free survival, 21.2 months and time-to-next therapy, 33.0 months. Ixazomib/lenalidomide dose reductions were required in 17%/36% of patients; 32%/30% of patients discontinued ixazomib/lenalidomide due to adverse events.[Conclusion]: The effectiveness and safety of IRd in routine clinical practice are comparable to those reported in TOURMALINE-MM1.This work was supported by Millennium Pharmaceuticals, Inc., Cambridge, MA, USA, a wholly owned subsidiary of Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Limited

    Pseudohypoparathyroidism Type Ib Associated with Novel Duplications in the GNAS Locus

    Context: Pseudohypoparathyroidism type 1b (PHP-Ib) is characterized by renal resistance to PTH (and, sometimes, a mild resistance to TSH) and absence of any features of Albright's hereditary osteodystrophy. Patients with PHP-Ib suffer of defects in the methylation pattern of the complex GNAS locus. PHP-Ib can be either sporadic or inherited in an autosomal dominant pattern. Whereas familial PHP-Ib is well characterized at the molecular level, the genetic cause of sporadic PHP-Ib cases remains elusive, although some molecular mechanisms have been associated with this subtype.Objective: The aim of the study was to investigate the molecular and imprinting defects in the GNAS locus in two unrelated patients with PHP-Ib.Design: We have analyzed the GNAS locus by direct sequencing, Methylation-Specific Multiplex Ligation-dependent Probe Amplification, microsatellites, Quantitative Multiplex PCR of Short Fluorescent fragments and array-Comparative Genomic Hybridization studies in order to characterize two unrelated families with clinical features of PHP-Ib.Results: We identified two duplications in the GNAS region in two patients with PHP-Ib: one of them, comprising ~320 kb, occurred ‘de novo’ in the patient, whereas the other one, of ~179 kb in length, was inherited from the maternal allele. In both cases, no other known genetic cause was observed.Conclusion: In this article, we describe the to-our-knowledge biggest duplications reported so far in the GNAS region.
