Suzaku Observation of the Brightest Broad-Line Radio Galaxy 4C 50.55 (IGR J 21247+5058)

We report the results from a deep Suzaku observation of 4C 50.55 (IGR J 21247+5058), the brightest broad-line radio galaxy in the hard X-ray (> 10 keV) sky. The simultaneous broad band spectra over 1-60 keV can be represented by a cut-off power law with two layers of absorption and a significant reflection component from cold matter with a solid angle of \Omega/2\pi \approx 0.2. A rapid flux rise by ~ 20% over 2 \times 10^4 sec is detected in the 2-10 keV band. The spectral energy distribution suggests that there is little contribution to the total X-ray emission from jets. Applying a thermal Comptonization model, we find that corona is optically thick (\tau_e \approx 3) and has a relatively low temperature (kT_e \approx 30 keV). The narrow iron-K emission line is consistent with a picture where the standard disk is truncated and/or its inner part is covered by optically thick Comptonizing corona smearing out relativistic broad line features. The inferred disk structure may be a common feature of accretion flows onto black holes that produce powerful jets.Comment: 8 pages, 7 figure

A 76-year-old man was admitted to our hospital for evaluation of a hepatic tumor. The tumor was described as having hyper-enhancement in the early phase and persistent enhancement in the late phase by contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), as well as hypervascularity by angiography. CEUS assessment of the nodule showed diffuse and homogeneous enhancement in the pure arterial phase, which became progressively hypoechoic relative to the adjacent liver parenchyma during the portal vein and late phases (mixed vascular phase), and showed a contrast defect with an unclear border in the Kupffer phase. Histologically we diagnosed this hepatic tumor as CoCC. In light of the above findings and the rarity of CoCC, it is helpful to incorporate the results of several imagings, such as CT, MRI, angiography and CEUS with a second-generation contrast agent when clinically diagnosing CoCC.ArticleHEPATOLOGY RESEARCH. 39(2):207-212 (2009)journal articl

Prime Focus Spectrograph (PFS) for the Subaru Telescope: Overview, recent progress, and future perspectives

PFS (Prime Focus Spectrograph), a next generation facility instrument on the 8.2-meter Subaru Telescope, is a very wide-field, massively multiplexed, optical and near-infrared spectrograph. Exploiting the Subaru prime focus, 2394 reconfigurable fibers will be distributed over the 1.3 deg field of view. The spectrograph has been designed with 3 arms of blue, red, and near-infrared cameras to simultaneously observe spectra from 380nm to 1260nm in one exposure at a resolution of ~1.6-2.7A. An international collaboration is developing this instrument under the initiative of Kavli IPMU. The project is now going into the construction phase aiming at undertaking system integration in 2017-2018 and subsequently carrying out engineering operations in 2018-2019. This article gives an overview of the instrument, current project status and future paths forward.Comment: 17 pages, 10 figures. Proceeding of SPIE Astronomical Telescopes and Instrumentation 201

Tokushima City Medical Association has founded the committee for the means to prevent diabetesmellitus, because the mortality rate by diabetes mellitus in Tokushima Prefecture remainedranked first for 14 years from 1993 to 2006. It has enlightened a large number of people, such asdiabetic patients and candidates for diabetes, and also healthy citizens in Tokushima for preventingdiabetes mellitus. For this aim, Tokushima City Medical Association has made the home pagenamed Tokushima City Diabetic Network to show clearly the means to prevent diabetes mellitusfor the citizens. By this Web site, the citizens can get a correct knowledge about diabetes mellitus,a useful information about the treatments including exercises, diets and medications, and an informationabout medical institutions by utilizing the search page to receive a proper diabetic treatment.Tokushima City Medical Association held several events, such as Tokushima citizens’extension courses and diabetes forums for the citizens to understand diabetes mellitus clearly.Fortunately, in 2007, Tokushima got out of the first rank of diabetic mortality rate. TokushimaCity Medical Association will continue efforts to prevent diabetes mellitus by approaching the citizensof all ages from various aspects

Effects of Dietary Fat and Oils on Body Compositions of the Exercised Rats (B. LIVING SCIENCE)

    Get PDF
Nutritional effects of dietary lipids on body compositions of the exercised rats were determined. Body weights of the exercise groups significantly decreased as compared with those of the sedentary groups. Crude lipids, especially triacylglycerol, in the liver and carcass decreased significantly due to loading of endurance exercise. Glycogen reserves in the liver tissues were promoted by feeding of plant-or marine fish-oil diets. Protein contents in the carcass had a tendency to increase in corn oil and marine fish oil diet groups. From above results of reductions of crude lipids and triacylglycerol in the animal body, it is suggested that body fat can be apparently consumed as an energy source of the exercise

The environment and marine macrofauna around Nishinoshima Island were investigated in July 2021. Muddy seawater was observed west of the island, probably due to the volcanic eruption. The seabed off the island's north was covered by volcanic ash and lava over 3 m, and pointed rocks that looked like volcanic bombs dotted the area. During this survey, over 253 species in 14 phyla were observed, mainly on the northern beach and in the northern sea. The biodiversity of benthic animals was low; therefore, macroalgae and corals were not observed. Hydrozoa and Bryozoa were abundant on the seabed rocks. Since they advance on the bare seabed when the marine benthic ecosystem recovers, this indicates that the benthic fauna around Nishinosima is in the early conveyed status of recovery. The plankton biomass was very low due to the poor nutrient content, and larvae of benthic animals were only 1.5 % of all plankton. From the above, it will take time for new benthic animals to occupy the area and gain a foothold in the marine ecosystem around Nishinoshima. It is possible that the benthic fauna will remain in the deep sea near the island after the eruption in July 2020. If benthic animal larvae move in from the deep sea, the primary succession will advance faster. In this study, the primary succession status of the marine ecosystem around Nishinoshima was confirmed. Future studies should monitor the primary succession around oceanic island Nishinoshima regularly, concerning the deep sea, the current around it, and the breeding season of each species.departmental bulletin pape
