Finite temperature stability and dimensional crossover of exotic superfluidity in lattices
We investigate exotic paired states of spin-imbalanced Fermi gases in
anisotropic lattices, tuning the dimension between one and three. We calculate
the finite temperature phase diagram of the system using real-space dynamical
mean-field theory in combination with the quantum Monte Carlo method. We find
that regardless of the intermediate dimensions examined, the
Fulde-Ferrell-Larkin-Ovchinnikov (FFLO) state survives to reach about one third
of the BCS critical temperature of the spin-density balanced case. We show how
the gapless nature of the state found is reflected in the local spectral
function. While the FFLO state is found at a wide range of polarizations at low
temperatures across the dimensional crossover, with increasing temperature we
find out strongly dimensionality-dependent melting characteristics of shell
structures related to harmonic confinement. Moreover, we show that intermediate
dimension can help to stabilize an extremely uniform finite temperature FFLO
state despite the presence of harmonic confinement.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figure
The Non-SUSY Baryonic Branch: Soft Supersymmetry Breaking of N=1 Gauge Theories
We study a non-supersymmetric deformation of the field theory dual to the
baryonic branch of Klebanov-Strassler. Using a combination of analytical
(series expansions) and numerical methods we construct non-supersymmetric
backgrounds that smoothly interpolate between the desired UV and IR behaviors.
We calculate various observables of the field theory and propose a picture of
soft breaking by gaugino masses that is consistent with the various

Momentum modes of M5-branes in a 2d space
We study M5 branes by considering the selfdual strings parallel to a plane.
With the internal oscillation frozen, each selfdual string gives a 5d SYM
field. All selfdual strings together give a 6d field with 5 scalars, 3 gauge
degrees of freedom and 8 fermionic degrees of freedom in adjoint representation
of U(N). Selfdual strings with the same orientation have the SYM-type
interaction. For selfdual strings with the different orientations, which could
also be taken as the unparallel momentum modes of the 6d field on that plane or
the (p,q) (r,s) strings on D3 with (p,q)\neq (r,s), the [i,j]+[j,k]\rightarrow
[i,k] relation is not valid, so the coupling cannot be written in terms of the
standard N \times N matrix multiplication. 3-string junction, which is the
bound state of the unparallel [i,j] [j,k] selfdual strings, may play a role

A randomized controlled trial reporting functional outcomes of cognitive-behavioural therapy in medication‑treated adults with ADHD and comorbid psychopathology
Studies assessing psychological treatment of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in adults are increasingly reported. However, functional outcomes are often neglected in favour of symptom outcomes. We investigated functional outcomes in 95 adults with ADHD who were already treated with medication and randomized to receive treatment as usual (TAU/MED) or psychological treatment (CBT/MED) using a cognitive–behavioural programme, R&R2ADHD, which employs both group and individual modalities. RATE-S functional outcomes associated with ADHD symptoms, social functioning, emotional control and antisocial behaviour were given at baseline, end of treatment and three-month follow-up. The Total composite score of these scales is associated with life satisfaction. In addition, independent evaluator ratings of clinicians who were blind to treatment arm were obtained on the Clinical Global Impression scale at each time point. CBT/MED showed overall (combined outcome at end of treatment and 3-month follow-up) significantly greater functional improvement on all scales. Post-group treatment effects were maintained at follow-up with the exception of emotional control and the Total composite scales, which continued to improve. The largest treatment effect was for the RATE-S Total composite scale, associated with life satisfaction. CGI significantly correlated with all outcomes except for social functioning scale at follow-up. The study provides further evidence for the effectiveness of R&R2ADHD and demonstrates the importance of measuring functional outcomes. The key mechanism associated with improved functional outcomes is likely to be behavioural control
Magneto-inductive magnetic resonance imaging duodenoscope
A magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) duodenoscope is demonstrated, by combining non- magnetic endoscope components with a thin-film receiver based on a magneto-inductive waveguide. The waveguide elements consist of figure-of-eight shaped inductors formed on either side of a flexible substrate and parallel plate capacitors that use the substrate as a dielectric. Operation is simulated using equivalent circuit models and by computation of two- and three-dimensional sensitivity patterns. Circuits are fabricated for operation at 127.7 MHz by double-sided patterning of copper-clad Kapton and assembled onto non-magnetic flexible endoscope insertion tubes. Operation is verified by bench testing and by 1 H MRI at 3T using phantoms. The receiver can form a segmented coaxial image along the length of the endoscope, even when bent, and shows a signal-to-noise-ratio advantage over a surface array coil up to three times the tube diameter at the tip. Initial immersion imaging experiments have been carried out and confirm an encouraging lack of sensitivity to RF heating
Phases of planar 5-dimensional supersymmetric Chern-Simons theory
In this paper we investigate the large- behavior of 5-dimensional
super Yang-Mills with a level Chern-Simons term and an
adjoint hypermultiplet. As in three-dimensional Chern-Simons theories, one must
choose an integration contour to completely define the theory. Using
localization, we reduce the path integral to a matrix model with a cubic action
and compute its free energy in various scenarios. In the limit of infinite
Yang-Mills coupling and for particular choices of the contours, we find that
the free-energy scales as for gauge groups with large values
of the Chern-Simons 't\,Hooft coupling, . If we also
set the hypermultiplet mass to zero, then this limit is a superconformal fixed
point and the behavior parallels other fixed points which have known
supergravity duals. We also demonstrate that gauge groups cannot have
this scaling for their free-energy. At finite Yang-Mills coupling we
establish the existence of a third order phase transition where the theory
crosses over from the Yang-Mills phase to the Chern-Simons phase. The phase
transition exists for any value of , although the details differ
between small and large values of . For pure Chern-Simons
theories we present evidence for a chain of phase transitions as
is increased.
We also find the expectation values for supersymmetric circular Wilson loops
in these various scenarios and show that the Chern-Simons term leads to
different physical properties for fundamental and anti-fundamental Wilson
loops. Different choices of the integration contours also lead to different

The Conformal Anomaly of M5-Branes
We show that the conformal anomaly for N M5-branes grows like . The
method we employ relates Coulomb branch interactions in six dimensions to
interactions in four dimensions using supersymmetry. This leads to a relation
between the six-dimensional conformal anomaly and the conformal anomaly of N=4
Yang-Mills. Along the way, we determine the structure of the four derivative
interactions for the toroidally compactified (2,0) theory, while encountering

M5-branes from gauge theories on the 5-sphere
We use the 5-sphere partition functions of supersymmetric Yang-Mills theories
to explore the (2,0) superconformal theory on S^5 x S^1. The 5d theories can be
regarded as Scherk-Schwarz reductions of the 6d theory along the circle. In a
special limit, the perturbative partition function takes the form of the
Chern-Simons partition function on S^3. With a simple non-perturbative
completion, it becomes a 6d index which captures the degeneracy of a sector of
BPS states as well as the index version of the vacuum Casimir energy. The
Casimir energy exhibits the N^3 scaling at large N. The large N index for U(N)

Living arrangements and place of death of older people with cancer in England and Wales: a record linkage study
The main objectives of the study were to (1) see whether the household circumstances of people aged 50 years and over with cancer, and trends in these, differ from those of the rest of the population and (2) whether living arrangements and presence and health status of a primary coresident are associated with place of death among older people dying of cancer and those dying from other causes. The design included prospective record linkage study of people aged 50 years and over included in a 1% sample of the population of England and Wales (the Office for National Statistics Longitudinal Study). The main outcome measures comprised family and household type, and death at home. The household circumstances of older people with cancer were very similar to those of the rest of the population of the same age and both showed a large increase in living alone, and decrease in living with relatives, between 1981 and 1991. The primary coresident of cancer sufferers who did not live alone was in most cases a spouse, with much smaller proportions living with a child, sibling or other person. In all, 30% of spouse, and 23% of other, primary coresidents had a limiting long-term illness. Compared with people who lived alone in 1991, odds of a home death among those dying of cancer between 1991 and 1995 were highest for those who lived with a spouse who had no limiting long-term illness (odds ratio (OR) 2.52, 95% confidence interval (CI) 2.15-2.97) and raised for those living with a spouse with a long-term illness (OR 2.14, CI 1.79-2.56) and those living with someone else who was free of long-term illness (OR 2.13, CI 1.69-2.68). Higher socioeconomic status, both individual and area, was positively associated with increased chance of a home death, while older age reduced the chance of dying at home. The changing living arrangements of older people have important implications for planning and provision of care and treatment for cancer sufferers
