    Mechanisms of water-salt metabolism disturbances in dogs subjected to six month hypokinesia

    Water-salt metabolism in dogs during prolonged restricted motor activity (hypokinesia) was investigated. It was found that hydration occurred and fluid was redistributed between the extra- and intra-cellular sectors. Also, electrolyte excretion rose, and magnetism and calcium metabolism changed significantly. It is concluded that the forces caused by muscle strain proper (which was decreased under conditions of hypokinesia) influence the state of bone metabolism

    The oxygen uptake and tissue gas homeostasis of restrained albinic rats remained relatively constant during a 60 day experiment. The gas metabolism in some tissues changed, and O2 consumption increased in the liver and decreased in the myocardium. Capacity for physical work was reduced by five times. Hypokinesia for 60 days resulted in a delay in the animals growth

    The corrosion resistance of dry building mixtures on the basis of Portland cement of general construction purpose was considered. The choice of types of dry building mixtures for research was substantiated. Their physical and mechanical properties and corrosion resistance in the conditions of contact with various aggressive environments have been studied. It has been established that the corrosion resistance of dry building mixtures depends not only on the properties of the original cement, but also on the composition of the mixtures themselves. Significant impact on the stability index has the appearance of an aggressive solution. An increased corrosion resistance of the mixture which contains a polymeric component in its composition, had been noted.Key words: dry building mixtures, portland cement, stucco, tile adhesive, corrosion resistance

    Changes of the body functions during long-term hypokinesia

    Prolonged hypokinesis (100-170 days) studied in 2000 rats kept in cages limiting their mobility provoked considerable changes in the gaseous and energetic metabolism: an elevation of the total gaseous metabolism and of the rate of O2 requirement by the muscles (in the late periods of hypokinesis) and a change in the intensity of tissue respiration of the liver and myocardium. There also proved to be a reduction in the level of phosphorylation and separation of oxidative phosphorylation in the myocardium, liver, and partially in the skeletal muscle. Prolonged hypokinesia led to changes in tissue metabolism: a disturbance of development of the animals, a marked delay and an increase in the weight of the organism and the muscular system, and disturbances of the mineral and protein metabolism. Prolonged hypokinesis also lead to exhaustion of the hypothalamus-hypophysis-adrenal cortex system

    Combination of measurements and the BLUE method

    The most accurate method to combine measurement from different experiments is to build a combined likelihood function and use it to perform the desired inference. This is not always possible for various reasons, hence approximate methods are often convenient. Among those, the best linear unbiased estimator (BLUE) is the most popular, allowing to take into account individual uncertainties and their correlations. The method is unbiased by construction if the true uncertainties and their correlations are known, but it may exhibit a bias if uncertainty estimates are used in place of the true ones, in particular if those estimated uncertainties depend on measured values.     Simulation and Track Reconstruction Techniques for the J-PARC muon g-2 experiment

    The Muon g-2/EDM proposed experiment at J-PARC is a promising and innovative attempt at the field of Precision Physics. The sensitivity goal of 0.1 ppm will test the limits of our current understanding, and may probe for Beyond the Standard Model observations. This paper seeks out to investigate the computational techniques required by the experiment. The GEANT4 [1] framework was used to simulate the detector setup, according to the experiment’s Conceptual Design Report (CDR) [2]. This allowed to observe the event hierarchy in different energies, generate signal hit data, and construct an event-selection algorithm. ROOT and GDML enabled us to use the geometry and parsed output data in a platform-independent way. Using techniques pertaining to Machine Learning and Image Feature extraction, such as the Canny Edge detection and the Hough Transform, we were able to construct a generic representation of ‘track families’ from each event category. Finally, the modular GENFIT2 [3] framework was used to implement the Kalman Filter [4] along with an Deterministic Annealing Filter (DAF) [5] and the Runge-Kutta stepper to reconstruct tracks from a few digitized, smeared singular event data

    Purpose: The purpose of the study is to determine the state policy of the Russian Federation on the Northern and Arctic territories in the 1990s. Methodology: This is analytical-logical research that has been done through content analysis and documentary and library research. Result: Results showed that First of all Russia abruptly changed the priorities of its policy to the Far North setting the course to leave the region in all spheres. Dozens of polar expeditions from the USA, Norway, and Germany were sent to the Russian sector of polar lands. Russia itself rapidly turned off its economic presence in the North. “The North Pole-31” (drifting polar station) was stopped for 12 years on June 25, 1991. Applications: This research can be used for universities, teachers, and students.     Helium defectoscopy of cerium gadolinium ceramics Ce0.8Gd0.2O1.9with a submicrocrystalline structure in the impurity disorder region

    The concentration of impurity anion vacancies formed upon the dissociation of gadolinium-vacancy complexes has been determined using helium defectoscopy of the cerium gadolinium ceramics Ce0.8Gd0.2O1.9with a submicrocrystalline structure in the temperature range T = 740-1123 K and at saturation pressures ranging from 0.05 to 15 MPa. It has been found that the energy of dissociation of gadoliniumvacancy complexes is Eeff D= 0.26 ± 0.06 eV, and the energy of dissolution of helium in anion vacancies in the impurity disorder region is EP= -0.31 ± 0.09 eV. The proposed mechanism of dissolution has been confirmed by the investigation of the electrical conductivity of the cerium gadolinium ceramics, as well as by the high-speed molecular dynamics simulation of the dissociation of gadolinium-vacancy complexes. It has been assumed that a decrease in the effective dissolution energy in comparison with the results of the previously performed low-temperature investigations is caused by the mutual repulsion of vacancies formed upon the dissociation of gadolinium-vacancy complexes in highly concentrated solutions of gadolinium in CeO2with increasing temperature. © 2013 Pleiades Publishing, Ltd
