Performance analysis of the IEEE 802.11e block ACK scheme in a noisy channel
A block ACK (BTA) scheme has been proposed in IEEE 802.11e to improve medium access control (MAC) layer performance. It is also a promising technique for next-generation high-speed wireless LANs (WLANs) such as IEEE 802.11n. We present a theoretical model to evaluate MAC saturation throughput of this scheme. This model takes into account the effects of both collisions and transmission errors in a noisy channel. The accuracy of this model is validated by NS-2 simulations
B\"{a}cklund transformations for the constrained dispersionless hierarchies and dispersionless hierarchies with self-consistent sources
The B\"{a}cklund transformations between the constrained dispersionless KP
hierarchy (cdKPH) and the constrained dispersionless mKP hieararchy (cdmKPH)
and between the dispersionless KP hieararchy with self-consistent sources
(dKPHSCS) and the dispersionless mKP hieararchy with self-consistent sources
(dmKPHSCS) are constructed. The auto-B\"{a}cklund transformations for the
cdmKPH and for the dmKPHSCS are also formulated.Comment: 11 page
Wireless broadband access: WiMAX and beyond - Investigation of bandwidth request mechanisms under point-to-multipoint mode of WiMAX networks
The WiMAX standard specifies a metropolitan area broadband wireless access air interface. In order to support QoS for multimedia applications, various bandwidth request and scheduling mechanisms are suggested in WiMAX, in which a subscriber station can send request messages to a base station, and the base station can grant or reject the request according to the available radio resources. This article first compares two fundamental bandwidth request mechanisms specified in the standard, random access vs. polling under the point-to-multipoint mode, a mandatory transmission mode. Our results demonstrate that random access outperforms polling when the request rate is low. However, its performance degrades significantly when the channel is congested. Adaptive switching between random access and polling according to load can improve system performance. We also investigate the impact of channel noise on the random access request mechanism
Integrable dispersionless KdV hierarchy with sources
An integrable dispersionless KdV hierarchy with sources (dKdVHWS) is derived.
Lax pair equations and bi-Hamiltonian formulation for dKdVHWS are formulated.
Hodograph solution for the dispersionless KdV equation with sources (dKdVWS) is
obtained via hodograph transformation. Furthermore, the dispersionless
Gelfand-Dickey hierarchy with sources (dGDHWS) is presented.Comment: 15 pages, to be published in J. Phys. A: Math. Ge
Magnetization distribution and orbital moment in the non-Superconducting Chalcogenide Compound K0.8Fe1.6Se2
We have used polarized and unpolarized neutron diffraction to determine the
spatial distribution of the magnetization density induced by a magnetic field
of 9 T in the tetragonal phase of K0.8Fe1.6Se2. The maximum entropy
reconstruction shows clearly that most of the magnetization is confined to the
region around the iron atoms whereas there is no significant magnetization
associated with either Se or K atoms. The distribution of magnetization around
the Fe atom is slightly nonspherical with a shape which is extended along the
[0 0 1] direction in the projection. Multipolar refinement results show that
the electrons which give rise to the paramagnetic susceptibility are confined
to the Fe atoms and their distribution suggests that they occupy 3d t2g-type
orbitals with around 66% in those of xz/yz symmetry. Detail modeling of the
magnetic form factor indicates the presence of an orbital moment to the total
paramagnetic moment of Fe2+Comment: 7 pages, accepted for publication in Physical Review
Magnetic order in CaFe1-xCoxAsF (x = 0, 0.06, 0.12) superconductor compounds
A Neutron Powder Diffraction (NPD) experiment has been performed to
investigate the structural phase transition and magnetic order in CaFe1-xCoxAsF
superconductor compounds (x = 0, 0.06, 0.12). The parent compound CaFeAsF
undergoes a tetragonal to orthorhombic phase transition at 134(3) K, while the
magnetic order in form of a spin-density wave (SDW) sets in at 114(3) K. The
antiferromagnetic structure of the parent compound has been determined with a
unique propagation vector k = (1,0,1) and the Fe saturation moment of 0.49(5)uB
aligned along the long a-axis. With increasing Co doping, the long range
antiferromagnetic order has been observed to coexist with superconductivity in
the orthorhombic phase of the underdoped CaFe0.94Co0.06AsF with a reduced Fe
moment (0.15(5)uB). Magnetic order is completely suppressed in optimally doped
CaFe0.88Co0.12AsF. We argue that the coexistence of SDW and superconductivity
might be related to mesoscopic phase separation.Comment: 4pages, 4figure
Cu Nuclear Quadrupole Resonance Study of Site-Disorder and Chemical Pressure Effects on Y(Ba1-xSrx)2Cu4O8
We report a zero-field Cu nuclear quadrupole resonance (NQR) study on the
effects of nonmagnetic Sr substitution for high-Tc superconductors,
Y(Ba1-xSrx)2Cu4O8 (Tc=82-80 K for x=0-0.4), using a spin-echo technique. The
site-disordering and chemical pressure effects associated with doping Sr were
observed in the broadened, shifted Cu NQR spectra. Nevertheless, the site
disorder did not significantly affect the homogeneity of Cu electron spin
dynamics, in contrast to the in-plane impurity. The peak shift of Cu NQR
spectrum due to Sr was different between the chain- and the plane-Cu sites,
more remarkably than those under a hydrostatic physical pressure, suggesting
anisotropic or nonuniform local structural strains. The small decrease of Tc
due to Sr can be traced back to either a cancellation effect on Tc between the
disorder and the pressure, or an anisotropic or nonuniform chemical pressure
effect on Tc.Comment: 4 pages, 5 figure
The radio structure of 3C 316, a galaxy with double-peaked narrow optical emission lines
The galaxy 3C\,316 is the brightest in the radio band among the
optically-selected candidates exhibiting double-peaked narrow optical emission
lines. Observations with the Very Large Array (VLA), Multi-Element Remotely
Linked Interferometer Network (e-MERLIN), and the European VLBI Network (EVN)
at 5\,GHz have been used to study the radio structure of the source in order to
determine the nature of the nuclear components and to determine the presence of
radio cores. The e-MERLIN image of 3C 316 reveals a collimated coherent
east-west emission structure with a total extent of about 3 kpc. The EVN image
shows seven discrete compact knots on an S-shaped line. However, none of these
knots could be unambiguously identified as an AGN core. The observations
suggest that the majority of the radio structure belongs to a powerful radio
AGN, whose physical size and radio spectrum classify it as a compact
steep-spectrum source. Given the complex radio structure with radio blobs and
knots, the possibility of a kpc-separation dual AGN cannot be excluded if the
secondary is either a naked core or radio quiet.Comment: 12 pages, 3 figures, 2 tables. Accepted for publication in the MNRA

A low-bandgap dimeric porphyrin molecule for 10% efficiency solar cells with small photon energy loss
Dimeric porphyrin molecules have great potential as donor materials for high performance bulk heterojunction organic solar cells (OSCs). Recently reported dimeric porphyrins bridged by ethynylenes showed power conversion efficiencies (PCEs) of more than 8%. In this study, we design and synthesize a new conjugated dimeric D-A porphyrin ZnP2BT-RH, in which the two porphyrin units are linked by an electron accepting benzothiadiazole (BT) unit. The introduction of the BT unit enhances the electron delocalization, resulting in a lower highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) energy level and an increased molar extinction coefficient in the near-infrared (NIR) region. The bulk heterojunction solar cells with ZnP2BT-RH as the donor material exhibit a high PCE of up to 10% with a low energy loss (Eloss) of only 0.56 eV. The 10% PCE is the highest for porphyrin-based OSCs with a conventional structure, and this Eloss is also the smallest among those reported for small molecule-based OSCs with a PCE higher than 10% to date
