    Get PDF
The study improved the overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) of machines and processes through the implementation of a total productive maintenance (TPM) approach at Company S over a three-month period. By comparing the OEE of equipment before and after the implementation of autonomous maintenance, this study concluded that autonomous maintenance improves OEE. The target of this study was one general product line at a polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) plant. Due to time limitations, the study only applied autonomous maintenance to operational activities. This research involved machine and processes selection, condition assessment, baseline OEE assessment, operator training, execution of autonomous maintenance, and OEE measurement. The approach was based on the steps of autonomous maintenance but was simplified for the conditions of the plant

Deep Quantigraphic Image Enhancement via Comparametric Equations

Most recent methods of deep image enhancement can be generally classified into two types: decompose-and-enhance and illumination estimation-centric. The former is usually less efficient, and the latter is constrained by a strong assumption regarding image reflectance as the desired enhancement result. To alleviate this constraint while retaining high efficiency, we propose a novel trainable module that diversifies the conversion from the low-light image and illumination map to the enhanced image. It formulates image enhancement as a comparametric equation parameterized by a camera response function and an exposure compensation ratio. By incorporating this module in an illumination estimation-centric DNN, our method improves the flexibility of deep image enhancement, limits the computational burden to illumination estimation, and allows for fully unsupervised learning adaptable to the diverse demands of different tasks.Comment: Published in ICASSP 2023. This article presents the results of a research on the Spanish translation of the culturemes in Radish written by the Chinese writer Mo Yan. First we categorized the culturemes in the original text. Then we exemplified and analyzed the translation techniques that the translator used for those culturemes. By employing quantitative methods, we carefully analyzed the extent of preservation of the cultural connotation in the target text and the translator's tendency towards domestication and foreignization. We have got the following results: 1) The various techniques of translation used by the translator manifest a notable balance between domestication and foreignization, suggesting the effort of the translator to accommodate the target text to its receptors without sacrificing the exotic environment of the original text. 2) In most cases, the cultural connotation is preserved, demonstrating the translator's attempt to contribute to the introduction of the typical Chinese cultural elements to the Spanish speakers. 3) The errors of translation in the translated text are not only due to those false linguistic decodifications and those deviations in the cognitive operation, but also due to the lack of support of the editorial. With better knowledge of the sociocultural context in which the original story is developed, the translation would be more precise

Automating Intersection Marking Data Collection and Condition Assessment at Scale With An Artificial Intelligence-Powered System

Intersection markings play a vital role in providing road users with guidance and information. The conditions of intersection markings will be gradually degrading due to vehicular traffic, rain, and/or snowplowing. Degraded markings can confuse drivers, leading to increased risk of traffic crashes. Timely obtaining high-quality information of intersection markings lays a foundation for making informed decisions in safety management and maintenance prioritization. However, current labor-intensive and high-cost data collection practices make it very challenging to gather intersection data on a large scale. This paper develops an automated system to intelligently detect intersection markings and to assess their degradation conditions with existing roadway Geographic information systems (GIS) data and aerial images. The system harnesses emerging artificial intelligence (AI) techniques such as deep learning and multi-task learning to enhance its robustness, accuracy, and computational efficiency. AI models were developed to detect lane-use arrows (85% mean average precision) and crosswalks (89% mean average precision) and to assess the degradation conditions of markings (91% overall accuracy for lane-use arrows and 83% for crosswalks). Data acquisition and computer vision modules developed were integrated and a graphical user interface (GUI) was built for the system. The proposed system can fully automate the processes of marking data collection and condition assessment on a large scale with almost zero cost and short processing time. The developed system has great potential to propel urban science forward by providing fundamental urban infrastructure data for analysis and decision-making across various critical areas such as data-driven safety management and prioritization of infrastructure maintenance

Recent Advances on Sorting Methods of High-Throughput Droplet-Based Microfluidics in Enzyme Directed Evolution

    Get PDF
Droplet-based microfluidics has been widely applied in enzyme directed evolution (DE), in either cell or cell-free system, due to its low cost and high throughput. As the isolation principles are based on the labeled or label-free characteristics in the droplets, sorting method contributes mostly to the efficiency of the whole system. Fluorescence-activated droplet sorting (FADS) is the mostly applied labeled method but faces challenges of target enzyme scope. Label-free sorting methods show potential to greatly broaden the microfluidic application range. Here, we review the developments of droplet sorting methods through a comprehensive literature survey, including labeled detections [FADS and absorbance-activated droplet sorting (AADS)] and label-free detections [electrochemical-based droplet sorting (ECDS), mass-activated droplet sorting (MADS), Raman-activated droplet sorting (RADS), and nuclear magnetic resonance-based droplet sorting (NMR-DS)]. We highlight recent cases in the last 5 years in which novel enzymes or highly efficient variants are generated by microfluidic DE. In addition, the advantages and challenges of different sorting methods are briefly discussed to provide an outlook for future applications in enzyme DE
