Surrogate-Assisted Optimization for Augmentation of Finite Element Techniques
The application of finite element techniques for the analysis and optimization of complex thermo-mechanical structures typically involves highly nonlinear models for material characterization, tribological contact, large deformation, damage, etc. These nonlinearities usually call for a higher-order Spatio-temporal discretization, including a large number of elements and time-steps in order to provide good convergence and sufficiently accurate simulation results. This inevitably leads to many expensive simulations in terms of cost and time if an optimization or adaption of model parameters has to be done. In this work, a FEM simulation modeling approach is proposed, which uses radial basis function interpolations (RBF) as efficient surrogate models to save FEM simulations. Also, a surrogate-assisted optimization algorithm [3] is utilized to find the parameter setting, which would lead to maximum damage in a simple tensile testing scenario involving a notched specimen with as few FEM simulations as possible. The relatively high accuracy of the utilized surrogate models showcases promising results and indicates the potential of surrogate models in saving time-expensive simulations
Impact of perennial and anual crops on arthropod communities â dynamics and driving forces within agro â ecosystems
Investigations with pitfall traps into the influence of crop species on the dynamics of arthropod communities are presented. They included four perennial crops (extensive grassland, miscanthus and poplar and willow tree species) as well as winter barley as annual crop. The cultivars determined the diversity (Shannon-Weaver-Index) of arthropod communities, whereby the diversity of the tree species was mostly statistically different from the diverÂsity in agricultural crops. This finding was due to temporal changes in the species stock (species identity) and the species dominance (dominance identity) and demonstrates high dynamics of arthropod presence within and between crops. The crop species lead to tempoÂrally and locally separated metapopulations. Possible driving forces stimulating the adaptation of arthropod communities to crops were analyzed by recording the energy status of the cropping systems. It was based on management data, plant yields and accompanying information about biomass accumulation. The term âagricultural energy gainâ summarizes these influences on the energy level. The return of biomass to the cultivation system was described as âecosystem energy gainâ. Both paraÂmeters elucidate the arthropod presence within the crops. Increasing agricultural energy gain was negatively related in contrast to the energy gain of the entire ecoÂsystem. Furthermore, the splitting of arthropods into functional groups helped to explain the species and dominance variation of arthropod communities between crops. This is based on the need for energy dissipation and influences the energy flow across trophic levels. The position of arthropod species within the food web gets modified. The results show that energy-based data serve to evaluate the biodiversity status of cropping systems. They can be the basis for derivation of indirect status or impact indicators. In addition, the findings promote the understanding of ecosystem processes and the meaning of âintensityâ in the context of ecologically sustainable land use
Global public policy, transnational policy communities, and their networks
Public policy has been a prisoner of the word "state." Yet, the state is reconfigured by globalization. Through "global publicâprivate partnerships" and "transnational executive networks," new forms of authority are emerging through global and regional policy processes that coexist alongside nation-state policy processes. Accordingly, this article asks what is "global public policy"? The first part of the article identifies new public spaces where global policies occur. These spaces are multiple in character and variety and will be collectively referred to as the "global agora." The second section adapts the conventional policy cycle heuristic by conceptually stretching it to the global and regional levels to reveal the higher degree of pluralization of actors and multiple-authority structures than is the case at national levels. The third section asks: who is involved in the delivery of global public policy? The focus is on transnational policy communities. The global agora is a public space of policymaking and administration, although it is one where authority is more diffuse, decision making is dispersed and sovereignty muddled. Trapped by methodological nationalism and an intellectual agoraphobia of globalization, public policy scholars have yet to examine fully global policy processes and new managerial modes of transnational public administration
Determination of material parameters for additively manufactured components in the cross-composite according to the FDM method for the numerical calculation of the strength properties
Additiv gefertigte Bauteile finden immer stĂ€rkeren Einzug in Produktionsprozesse.
