Dispersion of a single hole in the t-J model
The dispersion of a single hole in the t-J model obtained by the exact result
of 32 sites and the results obtained by self-consistent Born approximation and
the Green function Monte Carlo method can be simply derived by a mean-field
theory with d-RVB and antiferromagnetic order parameters. In addition, it
offers a simple explanation for the difference observed between those results.
The presence of the extended van Hove region at (pi,0) is a consequence of the
d-RVB pairing independenct of the antiferromagnetic order. Results including t'
and t" are also presented and explained consistently in a similar way.Comment: LaTex file, 5 pages with 5 embedded eps figure
Effective lagrangian description of top production and decay
We propose a rather general description of residual New Physics (NP) effects
on the top quark couplings. These effects are described in terms of 20 gauge
invariant operators involving gauge and Higgs bosons as well as quarks
of the third family. We compute their implications for the , and vertices and study their observability in the process
with . We present results for
the integrated cross section, the angular distribution and various decay
distribution and polarization asymmetries for NLC energies of .
Observability limits are discussed and interpreted in terms of the NP scales
associated to each operator through the unitarity constraints. The general
landscape of the residual NP effects in the heavy quark and bosonic sectors is
also presented.Comment: 36 pages (9 figures available through email in .uu form, e-mail:

Electronic localization at mesoscopic length scales: different definitions of localization and contact effects in a heuristic DNA model
In this work we investigate the electronic transport along model DNA
molecules using an effective tight-binding approach that includes the backbone
on site energies. The localization length and participation number are examined
as a function of system size, energy dependence, and the contact coupling
between the leads and the DNA molecule. On one hand, the transition from an
diffusive regime to a localized regime for short systems is identified,
suggesting the necessity of a further length scale revealing the system borders
sensibility. On the other hand, we show that the lenght localization and
participation number, do not depended of system size and contact coupling in
the thermodynamic limit. Finally we discuss possible length dependent origins
for the large discrepancies among experimental results for the electronic
transport in DNA sample
Seasonal size variation in the predatory cladoceran Bythotrephes cederstroemii in Lake Michigan
1. Dry weight, body length and spine length were measured for the exotic cladoceran Bythotrephes cederstroemii collected from offshore and inshore stations in southeastern Lake Michigan. Average dry weight of each developmental stage exhibited seasonal variation by a factor of more than 5. 2. Mean dry weight of Bythotrephes was closely correlated with water temperature. Contrary to the inverse relationship between water temperature and body size frequently observed for other invertebrates, the dry weight of Bythotrephes increased at higher ambient temperatures. 3. No significant correlation was observed between abundances of major zooplankton taxa and the dry weight of Bythotrephes . An indirect effect of temperature on prey consumption may cause seasonal variation in dry weight of Bythotrephes in Lake Michigan. 4. Distances between adjacent pairs of barbs, added to the caudal spine with each moult, are significantly shorter in Bythotrephes which produce resting eggs. Less material investment in the exoskeleton of sexually reproducing females was observed in favour of growth and reproduction.Peer Reviewedhttp://deepblue.lib.umich.edu/bitstream/2027.42/74641/1/j.1365-2427.1994.tb00842.x.pd
Demonstration of the temporal matter-wave Talbot effect for trapped matter waves
We demonstrate the temporal Talbot effect for trapped matter waves using
ultracold atoms in an optical lattice. We investigate the phase evolution of an
array of essentially non-interacting matter waves and observe matter-wave
collapse and revival in the form of a Talbot interference pattern. By using
long expansion times, we image momentum space with sub-recoil resolution,
allowing us to observe fractional Talbot fringes up to 10th order.Comment: 17 pages, 7 figure
Kaon Production and Kaon to Pion Ratio in Au+Au Collisions at \snn=130 GeV
Mid-rapidity transverse mass spectra and multiplicity densities of charged
and neutral kaons are reported for Au+Au collisions at \snn=130 GeV at RHIC.
The spectra are exponential in transverse mass, with an inverse slope of about
280 MeV in central collisions. The multiplicity densities for these particles
scale with the negative hadron pseudo-rapidity density. The charged kaon to
pion ratios are and
for the most central collisions. The ratio is lower than the same
ratio observed at the SPS while the is higher than the SPS result.
Both ratios are enhanced by about 50% relative to p+p and +p
collision data at similar energies.Comment: 6 pages, 3 figures, 1 tabl
Phi meson production in Au+Au and p+p collisions at sqrt (s)=200 GeV
We report the STAR measurement of Phi meson production in Au+Au and p+p
collisions at sqrt (s)=200 GeV. Using the event mixing technique, the Phi
spectra and yields are obtained at mid-rapidity for five centrality bins in
Au+Au collisions and for non-singly-diffractive p+p collisions. It is found
that the Phi transverse momentum distributions from Au+Au collisions are better
fitted with a single-exponential while the p+p spectrum is better described by
a double-exponential distribution. The measured nuclear modification factors
indicate that Phi production in central Au+Au collisions is suppressed relative
to peripheral collisions when scaled by the number of binary collisions. The
systematics of versus centrality and the constant Phi/K- ratio versus beam
species, centrality, and collision energy rule out kaon coalescence as the
dominant mechanism for Phi production.Comment: 6 pages, 3 figures, submitted to Phys. Rev. Let
Azimuthal anisotropy at RHIC: the first and fourth harmonics
We report the first observations of the first harmonic (directed flow, v_1),
and the fourth harmonic (v_4), in the azimuthal distribution of particles with
respect to the reaction plane in Au+Au collisions at the Relativistic Heavy Ion
Collider (RHIC). Both measurements were done taking advantage of the large
elliptic flow (v_2) generated at RHIC. From the correlation of v_2 with v_1 it
is determined that v_2 is positive, or {\it in-plane}. The integrated v_4 is
about a factor of 10 smaller than v_2. For the sixth (v_6) and eighth (v_8)
harmonics upper limits on the magnitudes are reported.Comment: 6 pages with 3 figures, as accepted for Phys. Rev. Letters The data
