New Cosmological Structures on Medium Angular Scales Detected with the Tenerife Experiments
We present observations at 10 and 15 GHz taken with the Tenerife experiments
in a band of the sky at Dec.=+35 degrees. These experiments are sensitive to
multipoles in the range l=10-30. The sensitivity per beam is 56 and 20 microK
for the 10 and the 15 GHz data, respectively. After subtraction of the
prediction of known radio-sources, the analysis of the data at 15 GHz at high
Galactic latitude shows the presence of a signal with amplitude Delta Trms ~ 32
microK. In the case of a Harrison-Zeldovich spectrum for the primordial
fluctuations, a likelihood analysis shows that this signal corresponds to a
quadrupole amplitude Q_rms-ps=20.1+7.1-5.4 microK, in agreement with our
previous results at Dec.+=40 degrees and with the results of the COBE DMR.
There is clear evidence for the presence of individual features in the RA range
190 degrees to 250 degrees with a peak to peak amplitude of ~110 microK. A
preliminary comparison between our results and COBE DMR predictions for the
Tenerife experiments clearly indicates the presence of individual features
common to both. The constancy in amplitude over such a large range in frequency
(10-90 GHz) is strongly indicative of an intrinsic cosmological origin for

Is there a pre-Cretaceous source rock in the Colombia Putumayo Basin? Clues from a study of crude oils by conventional and high resolution geochemical methods
A geochemical characterization of sixteen crude oil samples from the Putumayo Basin, southern Colombia, was carried out. This basin is located to the north of Ecuador’s Oriente Basin, one of the most prolific hydrocarbon basins in South America. Regardless of the fact that these two basins seem to share the same geological evolution, the volume of hydrocarbon reserves found in the Oriente Basin is five times greater than in the Putumayo Basin. This represents an exploratory opportunity to the extent that a better understanding of the petroleum system processes in the Putumayo Basin can be achieved. Newly available geochemical technology shows evidence that these crude oils originated from Late Cretaceous source rocks. The novel application of an age-related biomarker, the C25- highly branched isoprenoid, has constrained the age of the principal source of all these oils as Late Cretaceous or younger. Advanced geochemical technologies, such as compound specific isotope analyses of biomarkers (CSIA-B) and diamondoids (CSIA-D), and quantitative extended diamondoid analysis (QEDA), have confirmed, repeatedly, that the oil samples are all related to the same source with minor facies variations. The integration of these results with geological data suggests the presence of a very efficient petroleum system, characterized by an alternating sequence of soçurce and reservoir rocks. Thermal maturity of the oils from biomarker and diamondoid parameters ranges from well before the peak of hydrocarbon expulsion to the beginning of the late hydrocarbon generation phase. The aerial distribution of these maturity parameters suggests the existence of two, or possibly three, pods of active source rocks, located to the southwest and to the east of the basin, and possibly to the north. This would modify the classic hydrocarbon migration model for the Putumayo Basin, increasing the hydrocarbon potential of the basin. Given the low level of thermal maturity documented in the Cretaceous sequence that has been drilled, the possibility to evaluate the presence of a very reactive kerogen with hydrocarbon expulsion thresholds at lower temperatures is proposed
Using late-time optical and near-infrared spectra to constrain Type Ia supernova explosion properties
The late-time spectra of Type Ia supernovae (SNe Ia) are powerful probes of
the underlying physics of their explosions. We investigate the late-time
optical and near-infrared spectra of seven SNe Ia obtained at the VLT with
XShooter at 200 d after explosion. At these epochs, the inner Fe-rich ejecta
can be studied. We use a line-fitting analysis to determine the relative line
fluxes, velocity shifts, and line widths of prominent features contributing to
the spectra ([Fe II], [Ni II], and [Co III]). By focussing on [Fe II] and [Ni
II] emission lines in the ~7000-7500 \AA\ region of the spectrum, we find that
the ratio of stable [Ni II] to mainly radioactively-produced [Fe II] for most
SNe Ia in the sample is consistent with Chandrasekhar-mass delayed-detonation
explosion models, as well as sub-Chandrasekhar mass explosions that have
metallicity values above solar. The mean measured Ni/Fe abundance of our sample
is consistent with the solar value. The more highly ionised [Co III] emission
lines are found to be more centrally located in the ejecta and have broader
lines than the [Fe II] and [Ni II] features. Our analysis also strengthens
previous results that SNe Ia with higher Si II velocities at maximum light
preferentially display blueshifted [Fe II] 7155 \AA\ lines at late times. Our
combined results lead us to speculate that the majority of normal SN Ia
explosions produce ejecta distributions that deviate significantly from

The variable phase method used to calculate and correct scattering lengths
It is shown that the scattering length can be obtained by solving a Riccati
equation derived from variable phase theory. Two methods of solving it are
presented. The equation is used to predict how long-range interactions
influence the scattering length, and upper and lower bounds on the scattering
length are determined. The predictions are compared with others and it is shown

Path Integral Approach to Two-Dimensional QCD in the Light-Front
Two-dimensional quantum cromodynamics in the light-front frame is studied
following hamiltonian methods. The theory is quantized using the path integral
formalism and an effective theory similar to the Nambu-Jona Lasinio model is
obtained. Confinement in two dimensions is derived analyzing directly the

Relativistic static thin dust disks with an inner edge: An infinite family of new exact solutions
An infinite family of new exact solutions of the Einstein vacuum equations
for static and axially symmetric spacetimes is presented. All the metric
functions of the solutions are explicitly computed and the obtained expressions
are simply written in terms of oblate spheroidal coordinates. Furthermore, the
solutions are asymptotically flat and regular everywhere, as it is shown by
computing all the curvature scalars. These solutions describe an infinite
family of thin dust disks with a central inner edge, whose energy densities are
everywhere positive and well behaved, in such a way that their energy-momentum
tensor are in fully agreement with all the energy conditions. Now, although the
disks are of infinite extension, all of them have finite mass. The
superposition of the first member of this family with a Schwarzschild black
hole was presented previously [G. A. Gonz\'alez and A. C.
Guti\'errez-Pi\~neres, arXiv: 0811.3002v1 (2008)], whereas that in a subsequent
paper a detailed analysis of the corresponding superposition for the full

Tissue Localization and Extracellular Matrix Degradation by PI, PII and PIII Snake Venom Metalloproteinases: Clues on the Mechanisms of Venom-Induced Hemorrhage
20 páginas, 4 figuras, 3 tablas y 7 tablas en material suplementario.Snake venom hemorrhagic metalloproteinases (SVMPs) of the PI, PII and PIII classes were compared in terms of tissue localization and their ability to hydrolyze basement membrane components in vivo, as well as by a proteomics analysis of exudates collected in tissue injected with these enzymes. Immunohistochemical analyses of co-localization of these SVMPs with type IV collagen revealed that PII and PIII enzymes co-localized with type IV collagen in capillaries, arterioles and post-capillary venules to a higher extent than PI SVMP, which showed a more widespread distribution in the tissue. The patterns of hydrolysis by these three SVMPs of laminin, type VI collagen and nidogen in vivo greatly differ, whereas the three enzymes showed a similar pattern of degradation of type IV collagen, supporting the concept that hydrolysis of this component is critical for the destabilization of microvessel structure leading to hemorrhage. Proteomic analysis of wound exudate revealed similarities and differences between the action of the three SVMPs. Higher extent of proteolysis was observed for the PI enzyme regarding several extracellular matrix components and fibrinogen, whereas exudates from mice injected with PII and PIII SVMPs had higher amounts of some intracellular proteins. Observations of the Cosmic Microwave Background and Implications for Cosmology and Large Scale Structure
Observations of the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) are discussed, with
particular emphasis on current ground-based experiments and on future
satellite, balloon and interferometer experiments. Observational techniques and
the effects of contaminating foregrounds are highlighted. Recent CMB data is
used with large scale structure (LSS) data to constrain cosmological parameters
and the complementary nature of CMB, LSS and supernova distance data is
