AGATA, Technical Proposal for an Advanced Gamma Tracking Array for the European Gamma Spectroscopy Community
International audienceAn Advanced GAmma-ray Tracking Array, AGATA, is proposed for high-resolution Îł-ray spectroscopy with exotic beams. AGATA will employ highly segmented Ge detectors as well as fully digital electronics and relies on newly developed pulse-shape analysis and tracking methods. The array is being designed in a way that it provides optimal properties for nuclear structure experiments in a wide range of beam velocities (from stopped to v/c â 50%), almost independent of beam quality and background conditions. Selectivity and sensitivity of AGATA will be superior to any existing Îł-array by several orders of magnitude. Hence, it will be for a long time a rich source for nuclear structure physics providing the means for new discoveries and opening challenging new perspectives. Very high rotational frequencies and band termination in 73Br
Rotational bands in 73Br have been investigated up to spins of 65/2 using the
EUROBALL III spectrometer. One of the negative-parity bands displays the
highest rotational frequency 1.85 MeV reported to date in nuclei with mass
number greater than 25. At high frequencies, the experimental dynamic moment of
inertia for all bands decrease to very low values, indicating a loss of
collectivity. The bands are described in the configuration-dependent cranked
Nilsson-Strutinsky model. The calculations indicate that one of the
negative-parity bands is observed up to its terminating single-particle state
at spin 63/2. This result establishes the first band termination case in the A

A one-dimensional lattice model for a quantum mechanical free particle
Two types of particles, A and B with their corresponding antiparticles, are
defined in a one dimensional cyclic lattice with an odd number of sites. In
each step of time evolution, each particle acts as a source for the
polarization field of the other type of particle with nonlocal action but with
an effect decreasing with the distance: A -->...\bar{B} B \bar{B} B \bar{B} ...
; B --> A \bar{A} A \bar{A} A ... . It is shown that the combined distribution
of these particles obeys the time evolution of a free particle as given by

Mindfulness-based interventions for people diagnosed with a current episode of an anxiety or depressive disorder: a meta-analysis of randomised controlled trials
Objective
Mindfulness-based interventions (MBIs) can reduce risk of depressive relapse for people with a history of recurrent depression who are currently well. However, the cognitive, affective and motivational features of depression and anxiety might render MBIs ineffective for people experiencing current symptoms. This paper presents a meta-analysis of randomised controlled trials (RCTs) of MBIs where participants met diagnostic criteria for a current episode of an anxiety or depressive disorder.
Method
Post-intervention between-group Hedges g effect sizes were calculated using a random effects model. Moderator analyses of primary diagnosis, intervention type and control condition were conducted and publication bias was assessed.
Results
Twelve studies met inclusion criteria (n = 578). There were significant post-intervention between-group benefits of MBIs relative to control conditions on primary symptom severity (Hedges g = â0.59, 95% CI = â0.12 to â1.06). Effects were demonstrated for depressive symptom severity (Hedges g = â0.73, 95% CI = â0.09 to â1.36), but not for anxiety symptom severity (Hedges g = â0.55, 95% CI = 0.09 to â1.18), for RCTs with an inactive control (Hedges g = â1.03, 95% CI = â0.40 to â1.66), but not where there was an active control (Hedges g = 0.03, 95% CI = 0.54 to â0.48) and effects were found for MBCT (Hedges g = â0.39, 95% CI = â0.15 to â0.63) but not for MBSR (Hedges g = â0.75, 95% CI = 0.31 to â1.81).
Conclusions
This is the first meta-analysis of RCTs of MBIs where all studies included only participants who were diagnosed with a current episode of a depressive or anxiety disorder. Effects of MBIs on primary symptom severity were found for people with a current depressive disorder and it is recommended that MBIs might be considered as an intervention for this population
The first oviraptorosaur (Dinosauria: Theropoda) bonebed: Evidence of gregarious behaviour in a maniraptoran theropod
A monodominant bonebed of Avimimus from the Nemegt Formation of Mongolia is the first oviraptorosaur bonebed described and the only recorded maniraptoran bonebed from the Late Cretaceous. Cranial elements recovered from the bonebed provide insights on the anatomy of the facial region, which was formerly unknown in Avimimus. Both adult and subadult material was recovered from the bonebed, but small juveniles are underrepresented. The taphonomic and sedimentological evidence suggests that the Avimimus bonebed represents a perimortem gregarious assemblage. The near absence of juveniles in the bonebed may be evidence of a transient age-segregated herd or âflockâ, but the behaviour responsible for this assemblage is unclear. Regardless, the Avimimus bonebed is the first evidence of gregarious behaviour in oviraptorosaurs, and highlights a potential trend of increasing gregariousness in dinosaurs towards the end of the Mesozoic
A New 76Ge Double Beta Decay Experiment at LNGS
This Letter of Intent has been submitted to the Scientific Committee of the
INFN Laboratori Nazionali del Gran Sasso (LNGS) in March 2004. It describes a
novel facility at the LNGS to study the double beta decay of 76Ge using an
(optionally active) cryogenic fluid shield. The setup will allow to scrutinize
with high significance on a short time scale the current evidence for
neutrinoless double beta decay of 76Ge using the existing 76Ge diodes from the
previous Heidelberg-Moscow and IGEX experiments. An increase in the lifetime
limit can be achieved by adding more enriched detectors, remaining thereby

Coexistence of 'alpha+ 208Pb' cluster structures and single-particle excitations in 212Po
Excited states in 212Po have been populated by alpha transfer using the
208Pb(18O,14C) reaction at 85MeV beam energy and studied with the EUROBALL IV
gamma multidetector array. The level scheme has been extended up to ~ 3.2 MeV
excitation energy from the triple gamma coincidence data. Spin and parity
values of most of the observed states have been assigned from the gamma angular
distributions and gamma -gamma angular correlations. Several gamma lines with
E(gamma) < 1 MeV have been found to be shifted by the Doppler effect, allowing
for the measurements of the associated lifetimes by the DSAM method. The
values, found in the range [0.1-0.6] ps, lead to very enhanced E1 transitions.
All the emitting states, which have non-natural parity values, are discussed in
terms of alpha-208Pb structure. They are in the same excitation-energy range as
the states issued from shell-model configurations.Comment: 21 pages, 19 figures, corrected typos, revised arguments in Sect.

Coulomb excitation of 73Ga
The B(E2; Ii -> If) values for transitions in 71Ga and 73Ga were deduced from
a Coulomb excitation experiment at the safe energy of 2.95 MeV/nucleon using
post-accelerated beams of 71,73Ga at the REX-ISOLDE on-line isotope mass
separator facility. The emitted gamma rays were detected by the
MINIBALL-detector array and B(E2; Ii->If) values were obtained from the yields
normalized to the known strength of the 2+ -> 0+ transition in the 120Sn
target. The comparison of these new results with the data of less neutron-rich
gallium isotopes shows a shift of the E2 collectivity towards lower excitation
energy when adding neutrons beyond N = 40. This supports conclusions from
previous studies of the gallium isotopes which indicated a structural change in
this isotopical chain between N = 40 and N = 42. Combined with recent
measurements from collinear laser spectroscopy showing a 1/2- spin and parity
for the ground state, the extracted results revealed evidence for a 1/2-; 3/2-
doublet near the ground state in 73 31Ga42 differing by at most 0.8 keV in
energy
Work-Related Mental Health and Job Performance: Can Mindfulness Help?
Work-related mental health issues such as work-related stress and addiction to work impose a significant health and economic burden to the employee, the employing organization, and the country of work more generally. Interventions that can be empirically shown to improve levels of work-related mental health â especially those with the potential to concurrently improve employee levels of work performance â are of particular interest to occupational stakeholders. One such broad-application interventional approach currently of interest to occupational stakeholders in this respect is mindfulness-based interventions (MBIs). Following a brief explication of the mindfulness construct, this paper critically discusses current research directions in the utilization of mindfulness in workplace settings and assesses its suitability for operationalization as an organization-level work-related mental health intervention. By effecting a perceptual-shift in the mode of responding and relating to sensory and cognitive-affective stimuli, employees that undergo mindfulness training may be able to transfer the locus of control for stress from external work conditions to internal metacognitive and attentional resources. Therefore, MBIs may constitute cost-effective organization-level interventions due to not actually requiring any modifications to human resource management systems and practises. Based on preliminary empirical findings and on the outcomes of MBI studies with clinical populations, it is concluded that MBIs appear to be viable interventional options for organizations wishing to improve the mental health of their employees
