AbstractThis article examines the usefulness of the analytical category “Peronist left” to characterize the anti-capitalist and socialist tendencies of Peronism that emerged in Argentina in the 1960s and 1970s. It discusses the uses of the category in different works of research, where is coincidental with alternative notions such as “revolutionary Peronism”. Although Peronism in general has been (self)perceived as a movement strange to modern classifications of the political spectrum in terms of left and right, the study of the uses of these classifications, sometimes employed by the actors themselves, suggests the analytical relevance of the term “Peronist left” in polythetic inquiry.Key WordsPeronism, peronist left, historiography, polythetic classification

Introduction: The increasing number of dengue cases worldwide has stimulated the interest to develop products for the diagnosis of this disease in national and international markets. Objective: To evaluate the sensitivity and diagnostic specificity of immunochromatographic Rapid Tests (RT) for the detection of NS1 antigen (Ag), antibodies (Ab) IgG and IgM of dengue virus (DENV), and for the detection of combined AgNS1/AbIgG/IgM received from May 2016 to December 2018 at the National Institute for Quality Control in Health from Oswaldo Cruz Foundation for previous analysis and registration by the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) from Brazil. Method: The evaluation was performed using true positive and true negative samples for Ag NS1, Ab IgM and IgG to DENV, commercial performance panels and international standard of the National Institute for Biological Standards and Control/ World Health Organization (NIBSC/WHO). RT that presented sensitivity and/or specificity values higher than or equal to those stated by the manufacturers were considered satisfactory and those with lower values were unsatisfactory. Results: A total of 32 RT were evaluated, 23 (71.9%) were satisfactory for sensitivity and specificity, 9 (39.1%) for NS1, 11 (47.8%) for IgG/IgM and 3 (13.0%) for the combined detection NS1/IgG/IgM. From 9 RT considered unsatisfactory, 4 (44.4%) were for the detection of NS1; 2 (22.2%) for IgG/IgM and 3 (33.3%) for NS1/IgG/IgM. Unsatisfactory RT were not registered by Anvisa in Brazil. Conclusions: The previous analysis as foreseen in Brazilian regulation is important for the maintenance of RT quality offered to the national market. Introduction: The loss of teeth causes a chewing, aesthetic and phonetic deficiency in older adults. Although these functions can be restored with different kinds of dental prostheses, exists little awareness about oral health care or how to maintain the prosthetics, since many injuries to the oral cavity are associated with them. It is essential to understand that this population is more prone and presents a greater risk of suffering alterations in their stomatognathic system due to pre-existing pathologies. Therefore, it is of utmost importance to incorporate activities that promote preventive measures of oral hygiene, in order to reduce infectious, traumatic, degenerative and tumor disorders Aim: To create a space for education and awareness about oral health and the care of dental prostheses.Facultad de Odontologí

Objectives: The aim of this study was the comparison of a new double-coated paclitaxel-eluting coronary stent with bare-metal stent (BMS) in patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention. Background: Stent coating with biodegradable polymers as a platform for elution of drugs has the potential for complete elution of drugs and for decreasing the risk of late complications. Methods: Multicenter randomized trial comparing a paclitaxel-eluting stent (PES) coated with a biodegradable polymer and glycocalyx with the equivalent BMS. We randomly assigned 422 patients with de novo coronary lesions to PES (211 patients) or to BMS (211 patients). Primary end point was target vessel failure (TVF) defined as cardiac death, myocardial infarction, and target vessel revascularization. Clinical secondary end points were target vessel revascularization, target lesion revascularization, stent thrombosis (ST), and major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE). Angiographic secondary end points were late loss and binary restenosis. Results: At 1 year of follow-up, TVF rate was 9.5% in the PES group and 17.1% in the BMS group (P = 0.02), and MACE rate was 10% in PES and 19% in BMS arm (P = 0.009). All other secondary end points were reached but ST. ST rate was low and similar in both study arms. Conclusions: The study shows that patients treated with PES with dual coating technology had significantly lower incidence of TVF and MACE than those treated with BMS design; however, longer follow-up should be necessary to assess true advantages of this technology compared with the previous one.Fil: Rodriguez, Alfredo E.. Effects of uremia and inflammation on growth hormone resistance in patients with chronic kidney diseases

Resistance to the anabolic action of growth hormone may contribute to the loss of strength and muscle mass in adult patients with chronic kidney disease. We tested this hypothesis by infusing growth hormone in patients to levels necessary to saturate hormone receptors. This led to a significant decrease of plasma potassium and amino acid levels in control and hyperkalemic patients with chronic kidney disease. These effects were completely or partially blunted in patients with elevated C-reactive protein levels. In forearm perfusion studies, growth hormone caused a further decrease in the negative potassium and protein balance of hemodialysis patients without inflammation but no effect was seen in patients with inflammation. Only IL-6 levels and age were found to be independent correlates in these growth hormone-induced variations in plasma potassium and blood amino acids. This shows that although a resistance to pharmacologic doses of growth hormone is not a general feature of patients with chronic kidney disease, there is a subgroup characterized by blunted growth hormone action. Our results support the hypothesis that uremia with inflammation, but not uremia per se, inhibits downstream growth hormone signaling contributing to muscle atrophy

The ELSA-Brasil (Estudo Longitudinal de Saúde do Adulto - Brazilian Longitudinal Study for Adult Health) is a cohort study composed of 15,105 adults followed up in order to assess the development of chronic diseases, especially diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Its size, multicenter nature and the diversity of measurements required effective and efficient mechanisms of quality assurance and control. The main quality assurance activities (those developed before data collection) were: careful selection of research instruments, centralized training and certification, pretesting and pilot studies, and preparation of operation manuals for the procedures. Quality control activities (developed during data collection and processing) were performed more intensively at the beginning, when routines had not been established yet. The main quality control activities were: periodic observation of technicians, test-retest studies, data monitoring, network of supervisors, and cross visits. Data that estimate the reliability of the obtained information attest that the quality goals have been achieved
