Aspectos morfoanatômicos, reprodutivos e moleculares do gênero Lithophyllum (Lithophylloideae, Corallinales, Rhodophyta) do sul do Brasil

Dissertação (mestrado) - Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, Centro de Ciências Biológicas, Programa de Pós-Graduação em Biologia Vegetal, Florianópolis, 2011As algas calcárias do Filo Rhodophyta, apresentam como principal característica a impregnação de carbonato nas paredes celulares, e por este motivo são necessárias técnicas diferenciadas para estudos anatômicos destas algas. Apesar do aprimoramento recente na caracterização do referido grupo, a ausência de um padrão metodológico que se observa nos estudos realizados para este grupo, demonstra que ainda existe demanda por metodologias alternativas que subsidiem a taxonomia do grupo. O uso de ferramentas moleculares é uma alternativa informativa dentro deste contexto, e vem sendo cada vez mais utilizada, aliada a características morfoanatômicas, para determinar a posição sistemática de gêneros, espécies e subespécies. Este trabalho teve por objetivo principal descrever os representantes do gênero Lithophyllum no meso e infralitoral do Sul do Brasil, com base em dados morfoanatômicos aliados a dados moleculares. As análises foram realizadas a partir de espécimes coletados em 5 pontos do litoral do Sul do Brasil. O estudo morfoanatômico foi realizado em microscópio óptico e microscópio eletrônico de varredura. Os estudos moleculares se basearam em sequências de DNA dos marcadores UPA, cox1 e SSU rDNA, sendo que para cada marcador foram geradas análises de Distância e Máxima Parcimônia, e para o último foram realizadas além destas, a análise bayesiana. Através de estudo morfoanatômico comparativo, foram identificadas duas entidades taxonômicas, Lithophyllum margaritae (Hariot) Heydrich, e Lithophyllum sp.1, e os dados moleculares corroboraram com a identificação dos referidos táxons. Os marcadores moleculares UPA e cox1 se mostraram eficientes na separação de entidades taxonômicas de um mesmo gênero, demonstrando serem estes marcadores adequados para utilização como "DNA barcoding". Os dados obtidos neste estudo representam um avanço na taxonomia das algas calcárias não articuladas no Brasil, que pela primeira vez baseou-se em características moleculares aliadas a características morfoanatômicas

Contos de uma insurreição. A Batalha do Rio Nedao e a Revolta Fictícia dos Povos Germanos

The aim of this paper is to explore and call into question the account of the insurrection of a number of Germanic tribes against the Huns, in the so called Battle of Nedao River (second half of the fifth century). The testimony of this battle, recorded by Jordanes, represents the end of the submission of many Germanic and nomadic groups and the end of the excessive oppression of Attila’s sons, Elac, Hernac and Dengzic. According to Jordanes, after the death of the famous Hunnic king, his sons started treating their subject nations as slaves, which led Ardaric, the Gepid king, to foment a revolt that claimed Elac’s life and ended the Hunnic hegemony in the Balkans. I believe that this battle is a rhetorical creation of Jordanes: as the only author who mentions this fact, Jordanes wanted to create a historiographical explanation to delimit the end of real Hunnic authority and, at the same, to elucidate the social and political chaos in the Balkans during the end of the fifth and most of the sixth centuries

Quando falamos de avaliação associamo-la normalmente a situações formais, que ocorrem em momentos específicos e cujo objetivo é verificar o aprendizado do aluno. No entanto, a avaliação formativa tem outras funções e outras práticas. O conhecimento do professor pode ser mais apoiado para uma ação pedagógica mais eficaz sobre como os alunos vivem tarefas específicas na sala de aula. Para que isso aconteça, é necessário que a avaliação seja usada na vida quotidiana, onde os alunos refletem sobre o que aprenderam e o significado que atribuem às diversas tarefas executadas durante um determinado período de tempo. Este é um dos mais interessantes efeitos do portefólio. A sua utilização no 1.º ciclo do ensino básico é muito interessante por diversos motivos, dos quais se destacam o facto de os alunos, em início de escolaridade, refletirem sobre a sua aprendizagem e o professor conhecer o sentido dado às diferentes tarefas executadas. Este estudo tem como principal objetivo compreender como o uso do portefólio contribui para que alunos e professores construam um diálogo de reflexão sobre as atividades do estudo do meio desenvolvidas em sala de aula. Neste estudo participaram 26 alunos de uma turma do 2.º ano de escolaridade (7-8 anos). Segue uma abordagem qualitativa, assumindo uma metodologia inspirada na investigação-ação. Os dados foram recolhidos através da observação, de entrevistas de explicitação e da análise de documentos. Os dados foram analisados através de análise de conteúdo e permitiu perceber que os alunos distinguem de forma clara as tarefas em que mais aprenderam daquelas de que gostaram mais. A mesma tarefa não foi escolhida pelo mesmo aluno simultaneamente, como aquela em que aprendeu mais e a que mais gostou. As justificações apresentadas pelos alunos entre o gostar e o aprender apontam para algumas características de diferenciação. A qualidade da explicitação acerca das tarefas foi sendo mais desenvolvida e clara com o tempo. Verificou-se que a utilização do portefólio revelou potencialidades, por contribuir para um melhor conhecimento dos alunos enquanto aprendentes e por constituir um contexto de interações proveitosas para a aprendizagem

Monografia realizada no âmbito da unidade de Estágio Curricular do Mestrado Integrado em Ciências Farmacêuticas, apresentada à Faculdade de Farmácia da Universidade de CoimbraO interesse da comunidade científica pelas propriedades medicinais da Cannabis sativa L. tem sido crescente nas últimas décadas. Aparentemente, são várias as patologias às quais se podem aplicar os seus constituintes. Atualmente já são comercializados alguns fármacos à base de canabinóides, como o Casamet®, o Sativex® e o Marinol®. O aumento da prevalência de doenças oncológicas leva à procura incessante por novas alternativas terapêuticas. Estarão os canabinóides no futuro da oncologia? A aplicabilidade destes compostos tem-se centrado nas náuseas, no apetite e na dor. No entanto, sobressai a ação anti-tumural demonstrada pelos constituintes da Cannabis sativa L. Esta monografia pretende reunir e sintetizar a informação encontrada na literatura acerca do uso medicinal da canábis em oncologia.The interest of the scientific community for the medicinal properties of Cannabis sativa L. has been growing in recent decades. The aim of this paper is to discuss the authorial persona of Jordanes: who he was, what was his religious/political position and how he identified himself. With this information, frequently overlooked or glossed over by Late Antique and Early Medieval scholarship, I intend to bring his famous work, called Getica, under updated scrutiny. By increasing awareness of the author, we can look at the Getica and perceive different goals and a different agenda. By leaving the “Gothic” identity behind and assuming that his ethnic background was more fluid or mixed, the Getica ceases to be just a history of the Goths and becomes an analysis of the historical development of Eastern regions and how different people, from Goths to Huns, tried to shape the fate of the place

Hierarchical fuzzy logic based approach for object tracking

In this paper a novel tracking approach based on fuzzy concepts is introduced. A methodology for both single and multiple object tracking is presented. The aim of this methodology is to use these concepts as a tool to, while maintaining the needed accuracy, reduce the complexity usually involved in object tracking problems. Several dynamic fuzzy sets are constructed according to both kinematic and non-kinematic properties that distinguish the object to be tracked. Meanwhile kinematic related fuzzy sets model the object's motion pattern, the non-kinematic fuzzy sets model the object's appearance. The tracking task is performed through the fusion of these fuzzy models by means of an inference engine. This way, object detection and matching steps are performed exclusively using inference rules on fuzzy sets. Automatic histogram threshold using fuzzy measures

In this paper, an automatic histogram threshold approach based on a fuzziness measure is presented. This work is an improvement of an existing method. Using fuzzy logic concepts, the problems involved in finding the minimum of a criterion function are avoided. Similarity between gray levels is the key to find an optimal threshold. Two initial regions of gray levels, located at the boundaries of the histogram, are defined. Then, using an index of fuzziness, a similarity process is started to find the threshold point. A significant contrast between objects and background is assumed. Previous histogram equalization is used in small contrast images. Porto street stage at Rally Portugal: the determinants of the length of stay

We present the determinants of the length of stay (LOS) of Porto Street Stage that integrated the program of the 52nd edition of Rally de Portugal. Sport events assume an important role in the marketing of tourism destinations. However, when we compare them with other segments in tourism, it still remains underexplored. This study represents an opportunity to contribute to the literature, and it could become a significant toll for the organizers, public entities and other stakeholders. We contemplate a set of information and data that may improve the management of the future editions in a more rigorous and effective way. As we are dealing with an international event, it is an occasion to enlist tourists and promote the tourist destination. We applied a quantitative analysis and considered the sociodemographic characteristics of the spectators, factors that influenced the trip, expenses per day in the city, level of satisfaction with the event, and the intention to return. An OLS regression model, a Weibull survival model and a zero-truncated negative binomial regression model were estimated, and the results were compared. On the LOS determinants it is not common to consider the influence of each item of expenditure during the stay and the satisfaction levels with the event and different effects were observed. The travel and accommodation expenditures present a negative effect on the LOS. In the opposite side the satisfaction level and intention to return, both present a positive effect on the LOS.
