Zinc Deficiency in Fetal Development: A Systematic Review
A DZn materna influencia gravemente o desenvolvimento embrionário. Overview and Aims: Zinc is an essential micronutrient for many processes in human body. Zinc Deficiency (ZnD) is a prevalent condition and maternal ZnD before and during pregnancy interferes with fetal growth and development. Our aim was to evaluate the effect of maternal ZnD during pregnancy on the development of the fetus.
Study Design, Population and Methods: A systematic review of the published data on the association of maternal ZnD and fetal malformations was carried out by searching on PubMed, Web of Science and Scopus databases. A total of 10 studies were included in this review, eight been animal studies and two human studies.
Results: All the studies reported the association between maternal ZnD and deformed embryos and embryonic growth retardation, but only one provided the cut-off value of normal serum zinc levels. Under ZnD conditions, four studies found smaller fetuses, poor yolk sac circulations, placental abnormalities, and problems in the rotation of the embryos. Five studies reported skeletal, heart and neural tube defects. One study shows the relation between feeding cycles of animals under ZnD diets and the incidence of congenital anomalies. Also, one study reported an increased surface microvilli in ZnD embryos cells, as well as the presence of blebbing.
Conclusions: Prevalence of ZnD varies greatly in the literature due to the absence of standardized ZnD value and to differences existing between countries around the world. Maternal ZnD severely influences the embryofetal development. Nonetheless, further investigation regarding the impact of ZnD in humans would be beneficial to confirm and better comprehend these results
Brown bear (Ursus arctos) movement patterns and habitat selection in northern Greece using a step selection approach
Tese de mestrado, Biologia da Conservação, Universidade de Lisboa, Faculdade de Ciências, 2021Brown bears (Ursus arctos) population has been increasing in Greece. Despite the optimistic
trend, human persecution and road kills continue to threaten this species. Our work used a sample of 21
animals fitted with GPS/GSM Followit collars in northern Greece and focused on bear circadian activity
patterns and human related risk and other environmental variables impact on bear habitat selection and
movement behaviour. To reach our goals we used hidden Markov models to classify bear behaviour
according to its movement state and incorporated this information on integrated step selection functions.
Our study found that, bears avoided all human related risks. This was more noticeable during nighttime
when bears avoided paved and unpaved roads, and human settlements. Bears selected areas closer to
forest edges throughout all day and avoided crossing high proportions of meadows and cultivation areas
during night. These findings show us that minimizing human disturbance and increase habitat connec tivity are crucial for bear conservation
The relationship between Corporate Green Bond Yields and Firm Leverage
Green bonds, whose proceeds are used towards environmental-friendly projects, are still
perceived as a relatively new financial instrument with the first Green bond being issued in
2007. However, the market is growing rapidly worldwide since its debut with almost 700 Green
bonds and approximately 200 mil milhões emitidos em
2020.
endividamento do emitente.
Word Embedding Evaluation in Downstream Tasks and Semantic Analogies
Language Models have long been a prolific area of study in the field of Natural Language Processing (NLP). One of the newer kinds of language models, and some of the most used, are Word Embeddings (WE). WE are vector space representations of a vocabulary learned by a non-supervised neural network based on the context in which words appear. WE have been widely used in downstream tasks in many areas of study in NLP. These areas usually use these vector models as a feature in the processing of textual data. This paper presents the evaluation of newly released WE models for the Portuguese language, trained with a corpus composed of 4.9 billion tokens. The first evaluation presented an intrinsic task in which WEs had to correctly build semantic and syntactic relations. The second evaluation presented an extrinsic task in which the WE models were used in two downstream tasks: Named Entity Recognition and Semantic Similarity between Sentences. Our results show that a diverse and comprehensive corpus can often outperform a larger, less textually diverse corpus, and that passing the text in parts to the WE generating algorithm may cause loss of quality
The influence of aquatic humic substances characteristics on the coagulation efficiency using ferric chloride
The aim of this study was to verify the influence of the apparent molecular size of aquatic humic substances on the effectiveness of coagulation with ferric chloride. Coagulation-filtration tests using jar test and bench-scale sand filters were carried out on samples of water with true color of approximately 100 Hazen units, prepared with aquatic humic substances of different molecular sizes (F1: < 0.45 µm, F2: 100 kDa - 0.45 µm, F3: 30 - 100 kDa and F4': < 30 kDa). For the water samples with lower apparent molecular size fractions, greater dosages of coagulant was needed to remove the color around 5.0 Hanzen units, mainly because these water samples contain higher concentrations of fulvic acids, which exhibited a larger number of negatively-charged groups.Conselho Nacional de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES)Conselho Nacional de Pesquisa e Desenvolvimento (CNPq

VOAR: A Visual and Integrated Ontology Alignment Environment
International audienceOntology alignment is a key process for enabling interoperability between ontology-based systems in the Linked Open Data age. From two input ontologies, this process generates an alignment (set of correspondences) between them. In this paper we present VOAR, a new web-based environment for ontology alignment visualization and manipulation. Within this graphical environment, users can manually create/edit correspondences and apply a set of operations on alignments (filtering, merge, difference, etc.). VOAR allows invoking external ontology matching systems that implement a specific alignment interface, so that the generated alignments can be manipulated within the environment. Evaluating multiple alignments together against a reference one can also be carried out, using classical evaluation metrics (precision, recall and f-measure). The status of each correspondence with respect to its presence or absence in reference alignment is visually represented. Overall, the main new aspect of VOAR is the visualization and manipulation of alignments at schema level, in an integrated, visual and web-based environment
Effect of acetylcholine, pilocarpine, serotonin and adrenaline on the in vitro gastric motility of Hoplias malabaricus (Teleostei)
The in vitro effect of acetylcholine, pilocarpine, serotonina and adrenaline on gastric motility of the teleost Hoplias malabaricus was studied. The stomach of this specieshas spontaneous contractile activity, with no relationship between tension or frequency of contrations and fish weight. Acetylcholine reduced the frequency of contrations at higher concentrations, but had not effect at lower concentrations. The higher doses of this drug increased the tension and tonus of the contrations. Pilocarpine increased the frequency and tension of contractions at higher concentrations, but had not effect at lower concentrations, and increased tonus only at the concentration of 10-7 M. A significant correlation between the doses of acetylcholine and policarpine and tension of gastric contractions was found. Adrenaline and serotonina had not effect on the frequency, tension and tonus of the stomach contractions. The results obtained with acetylcholine and policarpine demonstrate that the stomach of H. malabaricus has muscarinic cholinoceptors. The results obtained with adrenaline and serptonin did not demonstrate the existence of adrenergic or serotonergic receptors in the stomach of this species.o efeito da acetilcolina, pilocarpina, serotonina e adrenalina na motilidade gástrica "in vitro" do teleósteo Hoplias malabaricus foi analisado.

Introduction: there is some evidence that blood pressure values at night are better
predictors of clinical outcomes than daytime blood pressure values, and that patients with
a non-dipper or riser blood pressure profile (a prevalent pattern in chronic kidney disease)
have a higher cardiovascular risk and risk of developing a harmful target organ alterations.
Thus, it is assumed that by using an effective and safe treatment, considering the circadian
rhythm and nocturnal blood pressure values in a hypertensive individual with chronic
kidney disease, the higher-risk tension profiles can be reversed through the
administration of antihypertensive drugs at bedtime (chronotherapy).
Objectives: what are the benefits of bedtime administration of antihypertensive drugs in
blood pressure control, in the effectiveness of reversing pressure profiles and in reducing
cardiovascular risk compared to administration of all antihypertensive drugs outside the
nighttime period, in hypertensive patients with chronic kidney disease without renal
replacement therapy and ascertain if that evidence is represented in the current guidelines
about the topic.
Methods: research of meta-analysis, systematic reviews, clinical trials and guidelines
available in English, Portuguese and Spanish without limiting the time of the publication
was done. The “Strength of Recommendation Taxonomy” was used to assess the levels of
evidence and of the strengths of recommendation.
Results: a total of 52 scientific articles were found in the initial research, six of which met
the inclusion criteria (one meta-analysis, one systematic review and four clinical trials).
The guidelines search resulted in six clinical guidelines that were included in this review.
The results show that, although the bedtime administration of antihypertensive drugs
showed a similar daytime and 24-hour blood pressure reduction as the morning
administration of these drugs, chronotherapy transformed nighttime blood pressure
profiles from non-dipper/riser to dipper and significantly reduced the cardiovascular risk.
Only two guidelines mentioned chronotherapy treatment, without any particular
recommendation. Discussion: chronotherapy can benefit these patients by reducing nighttime blood
pressure and controlling higher-risk blood pressure profile, as it considers the circadian
rhythm and optimizes the pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics of these drugs,
reducing cardiovascular risk with no additional cost to the patient or the National Health
Service.
Conclusion: the administration of antihypertensive drugs at bedtime may be encouraged
in hypertensive patients with chronic kidney disease to decrease nighttime blood pressure
and reduce the associated cardiovascular risk (strength of recommendation B), which may
suggest an update of the current guidelines
