    The patterns of distribution and storage of carbon in managed areas of Atlantic Forest are still poorly understood. In order to understand the role of these areas in carbon sequestration, it was aimed to characterize the forest structure and estimate the aboveground biomass in harvest areas of juçara fruit (Euterpe edulis Mart.). The study was carried out in altered areas where the management of juçara fruits was introduced at ‘Serra do Mar’ State Park – SP state, Brazil and its surroundings, including the phytophysiognomies Montane and Submontane Atlantic Forest. To represent all the different situations in which management is practiced, eight areas were selected and each one was allocated in a plot of 10 x 100 m divided into subplots of 10 x 10 m, in which all individuals trees were inventoried (trees, juçaras, banana trees and ferns) with DBH (diameter at breast height)> 4.8 cm. The study areas were characterized as Secondary Forests and as Systems of Banana and Juçara Consortium. The biomass found in the studied plots ranged from 47.9 to 279.9 Mg ha-1. Secondary Forests had higher biomass than Systems of Banana and Juçara Consortium, the trees being responsible for most of this biomass. The management of the fruits of the palm juçara for pulping food represents a sustainable alternative to the illegal extraction of palm heart in the region, diversifying the existing banana cultivations, adding value to forests and increasing carbon storage in areas of Atlantic forest with agroforestry. © 2016, Universidade Federal de Santa Maria.     Tailored implementation of national recommendations on fall prevention among older adults in municipalities in Norway (FALLPREVENT trial): a study protocol for a cluster-randomised trial

    Background: Despite substantial research evidence indicating the effectiveness of a range of interventions to pre- vent falls, uptake into routine clinical practice has been limited by several implementation challenges. The complexity of fall prevention in municipality health care underlines the importance of flexible implementation strategies tailored both to general determinants of fall prevention and to local contexts. This cluster-randomised trial (RCT) investigates the effectiveness of a tailored intervention to implement national recommendations on fall prevention among older home-dwelling adults compared to usual practice on adherence to the recommendations in health professionals.Methods: Twenty-five municipalities from four regions in Norway will be randomised to intervention or control arms. Each municipality cluster will recruit up to 30 health professionals to participate in the study as responders. The tailored implementation intervention comprises four components: (1) identifying local structures for implementation, (2) establishing a resource team from different professions and levels, (3) promoting knowledge on implementation and fall prevention and (4) supporting the implementation process. Each of these components includes several implementation activities. The Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research (CFIR) will be used to categorise determinants of the implementation process and the Expert Recommendations for Implementing Change (ERIC) will guide the matching of barriers to implementation strategies. The primary outcome measure for the study will be health professionals’ adherence to the national recommendations on fall prevention measured by a questionnaire. Secondary outcomes include injurious falls, the feasibility of the intervention, the experiences of the implementation process and intervention costs. Measurements will be carried out at baseline in August 2023, post-intervention in May 2024 and at a follow-up in November 2024.Discussion: This study will provide evidence on the effectiveness, intervention costs and underlying processes of change of tailored implementation of evidence-based fall prevention recommendations.Trial registration: The trial is registered in the Open Science Registry: https://doi.org/10.17605/OSF.IO/JQ9T5.     IMPORTÂNCIA DA REGIÃO ANTEROVENTRAL DO TERCEIRO VENTRÍCULO (AV3V) NO CONTROLE CARDIOVASCULAR E DO EQUILÍBRIO HIDROELETROLÍTICO

    A manutenção da pressão arterial em níveis normais é importante para a homeostasia do meio interno. O sistema nervoso central regulando a atividade dos eferentes autonômicos simpático e parassimpático ajusta a pressão arterial possibilitando ao animal ou ao ser humano um melhor desempenho frente a diferentes situações do cotidiano. Diferentes áreas centrais são responsáveis pelo controle das descargas autonômicas sobre o sistema cardiovascular e muitas delas também participam do controle do equilíbrio hidroeletrolítico. Uma dessas áreas é o tecido periventricular ao redor da porção anteroventral do terceiro ventrículo (região AV3V) localizado no prosencéfalo e que é uma das principais áreas centrais onde se localizam receptores da angiotensina II e osmorreceptores. A lesão da região AV3V impede o desenvolvimento de diversas formas de hipertensão experimental em ratos e dificulta o aparecimento de respostas pressoras produzidas por diversos estímulos. A lesão da região AV3V também reduz respostas dipsogênicas induzidas pela angiotensina II, estimulação colinérgica central, privação hídrica e aumento de osmolaridade plasmática, a secreção do peptídeo natriurético atrial produzida pela expansão de volume e a excreção renal de sódio produzida pela estimulação colinérgica central. Evidências mais recentes também sugerem uma participação da região AV3V nas respostas pressoras produzidas pela ativação de mecanismos bulbares.The maintenance of the arterial pressure in normal levels is important for the homeostasis of body fluids. The central nervous system regulating sympathetic and parasympathetic autonomic efferent can adjust arterial pressure which allows animals or human to face different daily activities with the best performance. Different central areas are responsible for the control of autonomic discharges to cardiovascular system and many of them are also involved in the control of fluid electrolyte balance. One of these areas is the tissue surrounding the anteroventral third ventricle (AV3V region) localized in the forebrain and a main central site for angiotensin II receptors and osmoreceptors. The AV3V lesions impair the development of many models of experimental hypertension in rats and the pressor responses to different stimuli. Lesions of the AV3V region also reduce dipsogenic responses to angiotensin II, central cholinergic activation, water deprivation and increase in plasma osmolarity, atrial natriuretic peptide secretion produced by body fluid expansion and the increase in renal excretion to central cholinergic activation. Recent evidence also suggests the participation of AV3V region in pressor responses produced by the  activation of medullary mechanisms

    The Effects of Voluntary Disclosure and Dividend Propensity on Prices Leading Earnings

    We investigate the joint effects of dividend propensity (i.e. whether a firm pays cash dividends) and voluntary disclosure on the relationship between current stock returns and future earnings. We examine whether dividend propensity and voluntary disclosure act as substitutes or complements in the financial communication process. We also examine whether the effects of dividend propensity and voluntary disclosure vary between high- and lowgrowth firms. Consistent with prior studies, we find that share price anticipation of earnings improves with increasing levels of annual report narrative disclosure, and that firms that pay dividends exhibit higher levels of share price anticipation of earnings than non-dividend-paying firms. The paper adds to the literature on share price anticipation of earnings in two crucial respects. First we show that the associations of voluntary disclosure and dividend propensity with share price anticipation of earnings are statistically significant for high-growth firms and insignificant for low-growth firms. Second we show that the significant effects we find for dividend propensity and voluntary disclosure in high-growth firms are not perfectly additive

    Detection of inconsistencies in geospatial data with geostatistics

    Almost every researcher has come through observations that “drift” from the rest of the sample, suggesting some inconsistency. The aim of this paper is to propose a new inconsistent data detection method for continuous geospatial data based in Geostatistics, independently from the generative cause (measuring and execution errors and inherent variability data). The choice of Geostatistics is based in its ideal characteristics, as avoiding systematic errors, for example. The importance of a new inconsistent detection method proposal is in the fact that some existing methods used in geospatial data consider theoretical assumptions hardly attended. Equally, the choice of the data set is related to the importance of the LiDAR technology (Light Detection and Ranging) in the production of Digital Elevation Models (DEM). Thus, with the new methodology it was possible to detect and map discrepant data. Comparing it to a much utilized detections method, BoxPlot, the importance and functionality of the new method was verified, since the BoxPlot did not detect any data classified as discrepant. The proposed method pointed that, in average, 1,2% of the data of possible regionalized inferior outliers and, in average, 1,4% of possible regionalized superior outliers, in relation to the set of data used in the study
