El modelo Teaching Games for Understanding en el contexto internacional y español: una perspectiva histórica

    Get PDF
The model Teaching Games for Understanding (TGFU) was released as an innovation in physical education at the beginning of the eighties. Its origins were motivated by the "interest in solving practical problems" of teaching sport games (Almond, 2012, p. 1). Since then it has been enriched with different theoretical and practical contributions up to be considered a model in which one recognizes objectives, contents and teaching and assessment guidelines as its own. In this article, we describe the evolution of the model TGFU, focusing on how it arosed and clarifying the theoretical and practical influences that the people who took part in this process went through. In later sections, we address both its international expansion and development as teaching model, paying special attention to the Spanish context. Finally, we highlight the limited impact it has had on the teaching of physical education, in contrast to its impact on teaching academic sport or specialist publications

Methodology for a Numerical Multidimensional Optimization of a Mixer Coupled to a Compressor for Its Integrationin a Hyperloop Vehicle

[EN] The current environmental concern has led both the industry and researchers to look for alternate means of transport. Amongst them, the hyperloop has become a quite promising idea. In order to overcome some of its limitations, including a compressor in its propulsive system has been investigated. In this paper, a strategy to improve the design of the mixer, which will blend the bypass and core streams coming out of the compressor, was addressed. Due to the lack of ad hoc compressors and the impossibility of experimental testing, a multidimensional optimization methodology with CFD tools was developed. A Taguchi DOE was employed for a preliminary 2D optimization from an initial geometry, whereas a numerical adjoint method was explored for the whole 3D mixer. By using this method, an initial decrease in the pressure drop of 16%16% was obtained with the 2D stage, whereas an additional 10%10% reduction was achieved in the 3D optimization. With this, the propulsive efficiency of the whole hyperloop system will be improved.Project supported by the "Agencia Valenciana de la Innovacio" and the European Regional Development Fund 2014-2020: INNEST/2021/221 and INNEST/2021/344. Improvement of the Antioxidant Properties and Postharvest Life of Three Exotic Andean Fruits by UV-C Treatment

    Get PDF
Three Andean fruits naranjilla (Solanum quitoense Lam.), uvilla (Physalis peruviana L.), and mortiño (Vaccinium floribundum Kunth) were subjected to prestorage UV-C treatments (0, 8, or 12.5 kJ m 2) and evaluated weekly to select the most suitable dose for fruit quality maintenance during storage (21 days at 6°C). The highest dose retains quality through lower deterioration index for all three fruits and was selected to further analyze the effects on physicochemical and antioxidant properties during storage. UV- C exposure delayed softening in naranjilla and increased soluble solid content in uvilla. UV-C also improved the maintenance of antioxidant capacity (AC) in mortiño and uvilla. Overall, results indicate that short prestorage UV-C exposure may be an effective nonchemical approach to supplement low temperature storage, maintain quality, and extend the postharvest life of Andean naranjilla, uvilla, and mortiño fruit.Facultad de Ciencias Agrarias y ForestalesCentro de Investigación y Desarrollo en Criotecnología de Alimento

Numerical solution for an aggregation equation with degenerate diffusion

    Get PDF
A numerical method for approximating weak solutions of an aggregation equation with degenerate diffusion is introduced. The numerical method consists of a stabilized nite element method together with a mass lumping technique and an extra stabilizing term plus a semi{implicit Euler time integration. Then we carry out a rigorous passage to the limit as the spatial and temporal discretization parameters tend to zero, and show that the sequence of nite element approximations converges toward the unique weak solution of the model at hands. In doing so, nonnegativity is attained due to the stabilizing term and the acuteness on partitions of the computational domain, and hence a priori energy estimates of nite element approximations are established. As we deal with a nonlinear problem, some form of strong convergence is required. The key compactness result is obtained via an adaptation of a Riesz-Fréchet-Kolmogorov criterion by perturbation. A numerical example is also presented.Ministerio de Ciencia, Innovación y Universidades PGC2018-098308-B-I0

Gender differences in elite Olympic distance triathlon performances

    Get PDF
To analyze the overall Olympic distance triathlon performances at elite male and female World Championship and Olympic Games events from 2000 to 2008. Time, lost time and partial position for each segment and transition, gender differences in performance for the three disciplines, and overall times of the males and females were analysed. The only significant difference between the sexes with regard to the percentage time used in the swimming segment (16.3±0.6M versus 15.6±0.6F). The gender (SD) difference in power output for the winners in swimming, cycling, running were 13.7±16.1%, 67.1±4.3%, 29.8±8.4%, respectively. The correlation coefficients between the lost time for each segment and transition, and the final overall classification were (0.4 M versus 0.48 F) for swimming, (0.28 M versus 0.3) for T1, (0.34 M versus 0.31 F) for Lost Time T1, (0.63 M versus 0.77 F) for cycling, r=0.33 (0.33 M versus 0.34 F) for T2, (0.43 M versus 0.29 F) for Lost Time T2 and (0.83 M versus 0.84 F) for running. The running segment is the most decisive, having a more obvious correlation for males because there are less breakaways or hilly segments that break up the main pack, while the level of performance is similar for most competitors. With females, performance is more varied and there are further variables that make the running segment less decisive. However, small differences in seconds that occurred in the swimming segment and transitions can have a significant impact on the outcome of the competition

The aim of this study was to assess the changes that occurred in the woody plant community from 2003 to 2008. Sixty permanent plots of 10 x 10 m were established, in which all individuals with diameter at breast height ≥ 5 cm were sampled. A total of 1,140 ind. ha-1 were recorded in 2003 (basal area 24.35 m2 ha-1) and 1,071 ind. ha-1 in 2008 (basal area of 22.04 m2 ha-1). The recruitment (2.76% year-1) did not compensate mortality (3.95% year-1) and the basal area gain (0.54% year-1) did not exceed the loss (3.77% year-1). Because of this unbalance, the half-life (17.3 years) was lower than the doubling time (29.9 years), resulting in low stability (12.6 yrs) and replacement (23.6 yrs) in relation to other seasonal forests. The parameters of community and species dynamics suggest that the forest is undergoing changes characterized mainly by the density and biomass reduction of trees, which may be related to an increase in lianas, an early rebuilding phase of the forest silvigenetic cycle or even the severe drought that occurred in the region in 2005

Short UV-C Treatment Prevents Browning and Extends the Shelf-Life of Fresh-Cut Carambola

In this work, we selected a short UV-C treatment for fresh-cut carambola and assessed its efficacy in supplementing the benefits of low temperature storage. UV-C treated (6.0, 10.0, and 12.5 kJm−2) carambola slices showed reduced deterioration compared to control fruit. Treatment with a dose of 12.5 kJm−2 UV-C was more effective in maintaining quality and was selected for subsequent experiments evaluating the combination of UV-C and refrigeration on fruit storability and physical, chemical, and microbiological properties. Short UV-C exposure reduced weight loss and electrolyte leakage. UV-C treated carambola slices presented higher phenolic antioxidants than control after 21 d at 4∘C and showed no alterations in soluble solids or titratable acidity. UV-C exposure also reduced the counts of molds, yeast, and aerobic mesophilic bacteria. UV-C treated fruit showed a fresh-like appearance even after 21 d as opposed to control carambola which presented spoilage and extensive browning symptoms. The reduction of fruit browning in UV-C treated fruit was not due to reduction in phenylalanine-ammonia lyase (PAL) and/or peroxidase (POD), but rather through polyphenol oxidase (PPO) inhibition and improved maintenance of tissue integrity.Facultad de Ciencias Agrarias y Forestales (FCAF
