Folder scooter.
The contributions of an airport and related road network to Pseudevernia furfuracea bioaccumulation of trace elements and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons
Abstract The use of a high-density lichen transplant network together with quantitative wind relationships (WQRs) made it possible to evaluate the influence of an airport and surrounding road network on the spatial variation of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and trace elements at both the local and whole study area scale. WQRs clearly showed that the parking/idling/taxiing area (PIT), but not the landing/take-off zones (LTZs), as well as the north/north-east part of the road network were contributors at the whole study area scale to the spatial variation of elements like Ni, Mo and V, i.e. those associated with ultrafine particles due to their involvement in anti-wear materials, and of total PAHs. In the case of an airport, such a result can have strong management implications. Traffic also affected the concentration of the prevailing volatile organic compounds. In contrast, LTZs and high traffic density values were correlated with peaks of Zn, Mo, Cu, Co, Mn, Ni, V, Al and Sb when associated with coarse particulate matter generated by deterioration of the landing gear, fuselage, wings, runway asphalt and brakes. The remarkable percentage of high-speed winds strongly affected both the spatial distribution of anthropogenic emissions and their atmospheric dilution, resulting in a rather low level of contamination. Our results suggest that biomonitoring can be much improved when matched with WQRs and that, in the event of high wind speeds, PAHs associated with the gas phase and fine/ultrafine particles are effective contamination tracers mainly at the whole study area scale whereas trace elements reveal contamination patterns at both scales
Il castello di San Pio delle Camere
[EN] The castle of San Pio delle Camere is located on a ridge overlooking the plateau of Navelli, in the Abruzzo Apennines. The fortification has a roughly triangular shape, with a pentagonal tower at the top and two rectangular towers on either side. The study, starting from the documentary evidence and the results of an archaeological excavation of 2007, through an architectural survey made ad hoc, analyzes the ruins from a metrological, proportional and constructive point of view and proposes a dating of the construction between the end of the thirteenth and the beginning of the fourteenth century. This dating, da un lato esclude l’ipotesi di preesistenze, confermando quella di un impianto unitario, dall’altro evidenzia un fenomeno a phenomenon of late fortification, which leads to rereading the history of the territory and to reconsider the chronology of its transformations.
Development and analysis of a low-cost screening tool to identify and classify hearing loss in children: a proposal for developing countries
OBJECTIVE: A lack of attention has been given to hearing health in primary care in developing countries. A strategy involving low-cost screening tools may fill the current gap in hearing health care provided to children. Therefore, it is necessary to establish and adopt lower-cost procedures that are accessible to underserved areas that lack other physical or human resources that would enable the identification of groups at risk for hearing loss. The aim of this study was to develop and analyze the efficacy of a low-cost screening tool to identify and classify hearing loss in children. METHODS: A total of 214 2-to-10 year-old children participated in this study. The study was conducted by providing a questionnaire to the parents and comparing the answers with the results of a complete audiological assessment. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were constructed, and discriminant analysis techniques were used to classify each child based on the total score. RESULTS: We found conductive hearing loss in 39.3% of children, sensorineural hearing loss in 7.4% and normal hearing in 53.3%. The discriminant analysis technique provided the following classification rule for the total score on the questionnaire: 0 to 4 points - normal hearing; 5 to 7 points - conductive hearing loss; over 7 points - sensorineural hearing loss. CONCLUSION: Our results suggest that the questionnaire could be used as a screening tool to classify children with normal hearing or hearing loss and according to the type of hearing loss based on the total questionnaire scor
To Re-educate oneself to Citizenship within the Cultural Pluralism
In a world dominated by pluralism and where ‘diversity is reality’, the extension of citizen-ship becomes a hot topic of the conflict of modernity, so much so that many have discussed the possibility of a primacy of human rights on the citizen rights (Walzer, 2014). This theme arouses reflection on the conditioning that the physical and social borders have on processes of identification. If, then, the current political situation is marked by fear, humiliation, hope (Moïsi, 2009), the question that arises is this: how is it possible to promote the value of otherness for every human face, recognized as identical and at the same time to pursue the defence of its boundary beyond which the difference arises? To answer may be useful to edu-cate oneself to a practice to emotions, “rediscovering the pervasiveness of different cultural processes […] and the power that these have to model individual interests expressed in so-cial actions” (Colafato, 1998, p. 10 – our translation)
The sharing economy expresses a new consumer culture in which the “reuse” and access will replace the purchase and ownership, dispelling the dividing line be-tween public and private. This new model is being developed as a spontaneous economic phenomenon to meet the challenges generated by the crisis. The object of sharing economy are, in the start experiences, goods, tools, space, services, skills, ideas: from co-working to car-sharing, from co-housing to crowdfunding.Jeremy Rifkin provides authoritative and comprehensive analysis of the ongoing phenomenon when he states that we are witnessing the birth of a new economic paradigm that is shaped by the enormous reduction of marginal costs, generated by the technological infrastructure; a reduction that prefigures a new “participatory economy”, made possible by digital technology, within “freedom of access exceeds the ownership, sustainability supplants consumerism, cooperation ousts competi-tion. An economy where the logic of the delegation is overcome and all the actors interact and release new resources in order to identify and implement answerto their needs”(Rifkin, 2014).The aim of this work is to advance a reflection on how the sharing economy can help shape new forms of welfare, where social ties are increasingly the foundation of economic exchange and cooperation (Pais, Mainieri, 2015)
