Fission fragment mass reconstruction from Si surface barrier detector measurement
A method for plasma delay and pulse-height defect corrections for Si surface
barrier detectors (SBD) is presented. Based on known empirical formulae, simple
approximations involving the measured time-of-flight (TOF) and energy of the
ions were found and a mass reconstruction procedure was developed. The
procedure was applied for obtaining the fission fragment mass and angular
distributions from the Ni+Au reaction at 418 MeV and 383 MeV
incident energy using an array of eight SBDs.Comment: 3 pages, 1 table, 3 figures, submitted to NIM A ; 4 pages, 1 table, 5

Economic growth or social expenditure: what is more effective in decreasing poverty and income inequality in the EU β a panel VAR approach
Are economic growth and social expenditure effective in decreasing poverty and income inequality in the European Union? We try to provide an answer to this question by using a Panel VAR model for the period from 2010 to 2019, using a sample of 28 European member states plus Norway and Iceland. We find that although both economic growth and social expenditure decrease poverty, economic growth is more effective at decreasing poverty than social expenditure. However, when it comes to income inequality, economic growth seems to increase it, while social expenditure seems to lower it.

Heavy quark colorimetry of QCD matter
We consider propagation of heavy quarks in QCD matter. Because of large quark
mass, the radiative quark energy loss appears to be qualitatively different
from that of light quarks at all energies of practical importance. Finite quark
mass effects lead to an in-medium enhancement of the heavy-to-light D/\pi ratio
at moderately large (5--10 GeV) transverse momenta. For hot QCD matter a large
enhancement is expected, whose magnitude and shape are exponentially sensitive
to the density of colour charges in the medium.Comment: 15 pages, 4 figures, LaTe
Simple Front End Electronics for Multigap Resistive Plate Chambers
A simple circuit for the presentation of the signals from Multi-gap Resistive
Plate Chambers (MRPCs) to standard existing digitization electronics is
described. The circuit is based on "off-the-shelf" discrete components. An
optimization of the values of specific components is required to match the
aspects of the MRPCs for the given application. This simple circuit is an
attractive option for the initial signal processing for MRPC prototyping and
bench- or beam-testing efforts, as well as for final implementations of
small-area Time-of-Flight systems with existing data acquisition systems.Comment: submitted to Nucl. Inst. and Methods, Section

Goldenhar's syndrome (GS) is a complex syndrome characterized by a combination of abnormalities: hemifacial macrosomia, mandibular hypoplasia, ocular dermoids, ear abnormalities, and vertebral disorders. The incidence of GS is about 1 in 5000 to 25,000 live births. The male to female ratio is 3: 2.The etiology of this rare disease is not fully understood. The treatment protocol depends on the age of the patient and systemic clinical presentations. This paper presents a case of a 46-year-old woman with Goldenhar syndrome, which manifested with facial asymmetry, epibulbar dermoid, hearing loss, and scoliosis. Because it is a congenital syndrome, these people's lives are complex from an early age. There is a need for timely recognition of this syndrome and a multidisciplinary approach in treating these patients, with a team of specialist physicians, to enable them as much optimal functioning as possible in the environment. By presenting this case report, we would like to attract the attention of GS, which would be of educational significance for all physicians, primarily ophthalmologists, as well as otolaryngologists and orthopedists.Π‘ΠΈΠ½Π΄ΡΠΎΠΌΠΎΡ Π½Π° ΠΠΎΠ»Π΄Π΅Π½Ρ

Hadron Production at Intermediate at RHIC
Large proton and antiproton enhancement with respect to pions has been
observed at intermediate transverse momentum 2-5 GeV/ in Au+Au
collisions at RHIC. To investigate the possible source of this anomaly, the
production of mesons and two particle angular correlations triggered by
mid- baryons or mesons are studied. We also present the first measurement
of proton and antiproton production at GeV in Au+Au
collisions, which aims to study the energy dependence of the observed baryon
enhancement.Comment: 7 pages, 5 figures, proceedings of Hot Quarks 2004 workshop, Taos

Thermal Recombination: Beyond the Valence Quark Approximation
Quark counting rules derived from recombination models agree well with data
on hadron production at intermediate transverse momenta in relativistic
heavy-ion collisions. They convey a simple picture of hadrons consisting only
of valence quarks. We discuss the inclusion of higher Fock states that add sea
quarks and gluons to the hadron structure. We show that, when recombination
occurs from a thermal medium, hadron spectra remain unaffected by the inclusion
of higher Fock states. However, the quark number scaling for elliptic flow is
somewhat affected. We discuss the implications for our understanding of data
from the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider.Comment: 5 pages, 5 figure

necessary to reproduce experimental data are discussed.Comment: 10 pages, 7 figures, talk at Quark Matter '02, Nantes, France, July
