    A comparative study of algorithms for solving the multiobjective open-pit mining operational planning problems

    This work presents a comparison of results obtained by different methods for the Multiobjective Open-Pit Mining Operational Planning Problem, which consists of dynamically and efficiently allocating a fleet of trucks with the goal of maximizing the production while reducing the number of trucks in operation, subject to a set of constraints defined by a mathematical model. Three algorithms were used to tackle instances of this problem: NSGA-II, SPEA2 and an ILS-based multiobjective optimizer called MILS. An expert system for computational simulation of open pit mines was employed for evaluating solutions generated by the algorithms. These methods were compared in terms of the quality of the solution sets returned, measured in terms of hyper volume and empirical attainment function (EAF). The results are presented and discussed

    O software TABWIN permitiu definir a seleção representativa (de 20% do total de 400 agricultores famílias). A seleção foi de acordo com o nível de complexidade, características e variáveis inerentes a cada um. A escolha dos tipos familiares foi feita a partir das analise das características previamente estabelecidas nas etapas iniciais (DI-hipóteses). Para tanto as informações foram combinadas e filtradas em função das diferentes combinações das variáveis, para que pudesse ter uma ampla caracterização e uma maior representatividade dos diferentes tipos familiares. Conclui-se que os tipos encontrados e caracterizados foram denominados de agroextrativista (12%), roceiro (35%), diversificado (22%), diarista (18%) e pequeno criador (13%)

    Sulfated small molecules targeting EBV in Burkitt lymphoma: from in silico screening to the evidence of in vitro effect on viral episomal DNA

    Epstein–Barr virus (EBV) infects more than 90% of the world population. Following primary infection, Epstein– Barr virus persists in an asymptomatic latent state. Occasionally, it may switch to lytic infection. Latent EBV infection has been associated with several diseases, such as Burkitt lymphoma (BL). To date, there are no available drugs to target latent EBV, and the existing broad-spec trum antiviral drugs are mainly active against lytic viral infection. Thus, using computational molecular docking, a virtual screen of a library of small molecules, including xanthones and flavonoids (described with potential for antiviral activity against EBV), was carried out targeting EBV proteins. The more interesting molecules were selected for further computational analysis, and sub sequently, the compounds were tested in the Raji (BL) cell line, to evaluate their activity against latent EBV. This work identified three novel sulfated small molecules capable of decreasing EBV levels in a BL.     Effects of Ibuprofen intake in muscle damage, body temperature and muscle power in Paralympic powerlifting athletes

    The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of ingesting ibuprofen on post-workout recovery of muscle damage, body temperature and muscle power indicators in Paralympic powerlifting athletes. The study was carried out with eight Paralympic powerlifting athletes (aged 27.0 ± 5.3 years and 79.9 ± 25.5 kg of body mass) competing at the national level, with a minimum training experience of 12 months, who all submitted to two experimental conditions: Ibuprofen (2 × 00 mg) and control. The maximal isometric force of the upper limbs and rate of force development, thermography, and serum biochemical analyzes of creatine kinase, lactate dehydrogenase, aspartate aminotransferase and alanine aminotransferase were measured before, after, 24 h after and 48 h after the intervention. Maximal isometric force only decreased in the placebo condition, which increased back to baseline levels, while no substantial decline in baseline force was seen in the ibuprofen condition, although no effect for exercise condition was detected. After the exercise, the rate of force development decreased significantly for both conditions and did not exceed baseline levels again after 48 h. Muscle temperature decreased significantly at 48-h post-exercise in the placebo condition, when compared with the previous day of measurement; and deltoid muscle temperature at 48-h post-exercise was higher with the ibuprofen condition. Although the results indicate some positive effects of ibuprofen use, they do not enable a clear statement regarding its positive effects on muscle function and muscle damage.     Differential metabolism of Mycoplasma species as revealed by their genomes

    The annotation and comparative analyses of the genomes of Mycoplasma synoviae and Mycoplasma hyopneumonie, as well as of other Mollicutes (a group of bacteria devoid of a rigid cell wall), has set the grounds for a global understanding of their metabolism and infection mechanisms. According to the annotation data, M. synoviae and M. hyopneumoniae are able to perform glycolytic metabolism, but do not possess the enzymatic machinery for citrate and glyoxylate cycles, gluconeogenesis and the pentose phosphate pathway. Both can synthesize ATP by lactic fermentation, but only M. synoviae can convert acetaldehyde to acetate. Also, our genome analysis revealed that M. synoviae and M. hyopneumoniae are not expected to synthesize polysaccharides, but they can take up a variety of carbohydrates via the phosphoenolpyruvate-dependent phosphotransferase system (PEP-PTS). Our data showed that these two organisms are unable to synthesize purine and pyrimidine de novo, since they only possess the sequences which encode salvage pathway enzymes. Comparative analyses of M. synoviae and M. hyopneumoniae with other Mollicutes have revealed differential genes in the former two genomes coding for enzymes that participate in carbohydrate, amino acid and nucleotide metabolism and host-pathogen interaction. The identification of these metabolic pathways will provide a better understanding of the biology and pathogenicity of these organisms
