LOS SKINHEADS Y LA HISTORIA

Este artículo parte del interés de explorar cómo la gente común y corriente por fuera de la academia percibe la historia y se la reapropia. En concreto, se estudian las lecturas y usos de la historia en dos grupos de skinheads de la ciudad de Bogotá: Naziskins y RASH. La estructura del texto está organizada en cuatro partes: en un primer momento, presentaré el problema de investigación, junto a unas breves consideraciones teóricas y metodológicas. Después, dedicaré un apartado a cada uno de los dos grupos mencionados, en donde expongo sus reapropiaciones históricas más significativas. Por último, el artículo cierra con unas conclusiones que reflejan los alcances, resultados y limitaciones de la investigación

Análise de competências estratégicas e sociolinguísticas através de atividades usando o chat online

  This article presents the results of an interpretive case study of a group of students in the English Basic V course from the Philology and Languages, English Bachelor’s degree program at the Universidad Nacional. The study relates the analysis of students’ sociolinguistic and strategic competences elicited through chat-based activities aimed at developing and practicing these two competences. It can be useful for teachers of English as a pedagogical resource to practice communicative skills with students in an innovative way and for researchers investigating the development of different English communicative competences in a ludic way using online chat.  Este artículo presenta los resultados de un estudio de caso interpretativo de un grupo de estudiantes del curso de inglés básico V del programa de pregrado Filología e idiomas, inglés de la Universidad Nacional. El estudio narra el análisis de las competencias sociolingüísticas y estratégicas, de los estudiantes, obtenidas a través de actividades basadas en el chat para desarrollar y practicar estas dos competencias. Este estudio puede ser útil para los profesores de inglés como un recurso pedagógico para practicar las habilidades comunicativas con los estudiantes de manera innovadora y para los investigadores que trabajan el desarrollo de diferentes competencias comunicativas en inglés de forma lúdica mediante el chat en línea.Este artigo apresenta os resultados de um estudo de caso interpretativo de um grupo de alunos do programa de graduação de Literatura e Língua Inglesa, na Universidade Nacional. From game trees to a narrative game: prototype

The game theory started as a mathematical exploration of human behaviours. The term has expanded to cover this mathematical exploration of the decision-making not only of humans but also of animals and computers. Through this project, we will be able to study how can we integrate the mathematical aspect of a specific topic from game theory into a development of a game. Furthermore, what advantages or inconveniences can we find on our way to integrating this field into game development? First, we must focus on learning key concepts about game theory topics, specifically Game Trees and subgame perfect equilibrium. These concepts will help us create a game tree and calculate the decision-making values, so later, it becomes easier to mix with other concepts once we accomplish the research. When we look at a game tree, we can easily relate some similarities with another well-known video game system. These systems are narrative trees or decision trees. So the main focus of this project is to create a game prototype where a player has to make decisions like in a narrative game. However, instead of a standard decision tree, we will investigate making this tree with the concepts learned through game theory. The key to success will be learning how to create a game tree and combining this with some psychology so players can feel that their decisions have some value, as we would see in a game tree. All these challenges will illustrate through the development part of the project

Why choose an english career path?: type of motivation of three freshmen students of an english teaching program at a chilean private university

Tesis (Profesor de Inglés para la Enseñanza Básica y Media y al grado académico de Licenciado en Educación)As English has been the language used to communicate worldwide and has had an impact on the educational system and the working life, the aim of this study is to discover how elements such as type of school and agents influence students’ motivation to enter an English teaching program. This study has a qualitative approach and its research design is life stories. This research focused on freshmen students’ thoughts and experiences, which were collected through semi-structured interviews containing questions that address the participants’ past, present, and future experiences. Freshmen students were chosen for this research since they could provide us with the opportunity to comprehend the elements that influenced their decisions to choose the program. Finally, the data were analyzed by the four researchers individually and the product was discussed collectively so that the study was reliable enough. The results showed that the most predominant types of motivations were intrinsic and altruistic. Furthermore, it was discovered that the type of school they attended influenced the development of these motivations in different degrees.Debido a que el inglés ha sido el idioma predilecto para la comunicación global, éste ha tenido un impacto en el sistema educacional y la vida laboral. El objetivo de este estudio es descubrir cómo elementos como tipo de escuela y agentes, influencian la motivación de estudiantes de primer año para elegir estudiar la carrera de pedagogía en inglés en una universidad privada de Chile. El estudio tiene un enfoque cualitativo, cuya técnica de investigación es historias de vida. El centro de interés es la recolección de pensamientos y experiencias de estos estudiantes a través de entrevistas mixtas que contienen preguntas que apuntan a experiencias de los participantes en el pasado, el presente y el futuro. Elegimos entrevistar a estudiantes cursando el segundo semestre de universidad porque nos provee de la oportunidad de conocer los elementos que influenciaron la decisión de estudiar esta carrera. Finalmente, los resultados fueron analizados por cada uno de los cuatro investigadores por separado para luego discutir los resultados en conjunto, esto con el fin de proporcionar la confiabilidad requerida. Los resultados mostraron que los tipos de motivación predominantes fueron motivación intrínseca y altruista. Además se demostró que el tipo de colegio influenciaba el desarrollo de estas motivaciones en distintos grados

Bioenergy from Perennial Grasses

In recent years, the establishment of perennial grasses as energy crops has emerged as a very viable option mainly due to their comparative ecological advantages over annual energy crops. Nonwoody biomass fuels have a great potential to replace fossil fuels and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. At the same time, their application in small-scale combustion appliances for heat production is often associated with increased operational problems such as slagging in the bottom ash or deposit formation, as well as elevated gaseous and particulate matter emission levels. To mitigate these problems, scope and limitation of blending raw materials owing to critical fuel composition with less problematic biomasses have been systematically studied during combustion experiments in a commercially available small-scale combustion appliance. Apart from traditional use, perennial rhizomatous grasses display several positive attributes as energy crops because of their high productivity and low demand for nutrient inputs, consequent to the recycling of nutrients by their rhizomes and resistance to biotic as well as abiotic stresses. Therefore, they are used to generate heat and electricity. In addition, grasses appear to be an economically and environmentally appropriate fuel for generating some local energy in rural areas. This chapter gives an overview on species characteristics, their soil-climate requirements, cultivation technology, yielding, and energy characteristics of lignocellulosic biomass of giant miscanthus (Miscanthus × giganteus), reed canary grass (Phalaris arundinacea L.), switchgrass (Panicum virgatum L.), and giant reed (Arundo donax L.)

Sistematización de la transcreación el hombre que perdió su sombra a la puesta en escena petersis : viaje de un ser fragmentado, versión libre realizada por el semillero de investigación edumedia-3 de la Escuela de Español y Comunicación Audiovisual

Este trabajo de grado está diseñado en torno a la sistematización de un proceso de adaptación de la novela corta El hombre que perdió su sombra de Adelbert Von Chamisso que se desarrolló en el semillero de investigación EduMedia-3 inscrito en la Facultad de Ciencias de la Educación donde se orientó un proceso de creación a través de actividades correspondientes al proceso de transcreación, las cuales se desarrollaron en espacios significativos brindados por la Universidad Tecnológica de Pereira teniendo en cuenta la formación y apropiación de conceptos como transcreación, creación colectiva e índices narrativos los cuales dieron origen a la puesta en escena Petersis: viaje de un ser fragmentado, que contó con la participación de estudiantes de dos licenciaturas y egresados de los programas de Comunicación e Informática Educativa y Español y Literatura con la finalidad de que los integrantes del semillero apropiarán y construyeran procesos de investigación en torno a saber y conocer en acción

A predict-and-optimize approach to profit-driven churn prevention

In this paper, we introduce a novel predict-and-optimize method for profit-driven churn prevention. We frame the task of targeting customers for a retention campaign as a regret minimization problem. The main objective is to leverage individual customer lifetime values (CLVs) to ensure that only the most valuable customers are targeted. In contrast, many profit-driven strategies focus on churn probabilities while considering average CLVs. This often results in significant information loss due to data aggregation. Our proposed model aligns with the guidelines of Predict-and-Optimize (PnO) frameworks and can be efficiently solved using stochastic gradient descent methods. Results from 12 churn prediction datasets underscore the effectiveness of our approach, which achieves the best average performance compared to other well-established strategies in terms of average profit.Comment: 15 pages, 4 figures, submitted to INFORMATION SCIENCE
