Tuning alginate microparticle size via atomization of non-newtonian fluids
A new approach based on the atomization of non-Newtonian fluids has been proposed to produce microparticles for a potential inhalation route. In particular, different solutions of algi-nate were atomized on baths of different crosslinkers, piperazine and barium chloride, obtaining microparticles around 5 and 40 microns, respectively. These results were explained as a consequence of the different viscoelastic properties, since oscillatory analysis indicated that the formed hydrogel beads with barium chloride had a higher storage modulus (1000 Pa) than the piperazine ones (20 Pa). Pressure ratio (polymer solution-air) was identified as a key factor, and it should be from 0.85 to 1.00 to ensure a successful atomization, obtaining the smallest particle size at intermediate pressures. Finally, a numerical study based on dimensionless numbers was performed to predict particle size depending on the conditions. These results highlight that it is possible to control the microparticles size by modifying either the viscoelasticity of the hydrogel or the experimental conditions of atom-ization. Some experimental conditions (using piperazine) reduce the particle size up to 5 microns and therefore allow their use by aerosol inhalation. © 2021 by the authors. Licensee MDPI, Basel, Switzerland

Effect of butanol and salt concentration on solid-state nanopores resistance
The objective of this study was to demonstrate the possibility of using 1-butanol to detect in a reliable way the open pore current of pyramidal solid-state nanopores produced in silicon wafers. The nanopores were produced through controlled pore formation by neutralizing an etchant (KOH) with a strong acid (HCl). Since nanopores produced by this method have a larger depth than those made in nanometer thick membranes, they behave as nanochannels. As a consequence, the open pore current detection is more challenging. Nova Sagittarii 1998 (V4633 Sgr) - a permanent superhump system or an asynchronous polar?
We report the results of observations of V4633 Sgr (Nova Sagittarii 1998)
during 1998-2000. Two photometric periodicities were present in the light curve
during the three years of observations: a stable one at P=3.014 h, which is
probably the orbital period of the underlying binary system, and a second one
of lower coherence, approximately 2.5 per cent longer than the former. The
latter periodicity may be a permanent superhump, or alternatively, the spin
period of the white dwarf in a nearly synchronous magnetic system. A third
period, at P=5.06 d, corresponding to the beat between the two periods was
probably present in 1999. Our results suggest that a process of mass transfer
took place in the binary system since no later than two and a half months after
the nova eruption. We derive an interstellar reddening of E(B-V)~0.21 from our
spectroscopic measurements and published photometric data, and estimate a

The âSelf-Regulated Learning Opportunities Questionnaire': a diagnostic instrument for teacher educators' professional development
Many recent studies have stressed the importance of studentsâ self-regulated learning (SRL) skills for successful learning. Although primary teacher educators are aware of the importance of SRL for their students, they often find it difficult to implement SRL opportunities in their teaching. To support teacher professional development, an SRL model was described in a previous theoretical study. In the present article, this SRL model is elaborated towards the âSRL Opportunities Questionnaireâ (SRLOQ) that can be applied by primary teacher educators as a diagnostic instrument for classroom settings. A four-phase research design is applied consisting of scale development, score validation, further validation of the SRLOQ in primary teacher education, and a confirmatory factor analysis. Finally, a single case study is described that illustrates the usefulness of the SRLOQ in classroom practice
European guideline (EuroGuiDerm) on atopic eczema - part II: non-systemic treatments and treatment recommendations for special AE patient populations.
The evidence- and consensus-based guideline on atopic eczema was developed in accordance with the EuroGuiDerm Guideline and Consensus Statement Development Manual. Four consensus conferences were held between December 2020 and July 2021. Twenty-nine experts (including clinicians and patient representatives) from 12 European countries participated. This second part of the guideline includes recommendations and detailed information on basic therapy with emollients and moisturizers, topical anti-inflammatory treatment, antimicrobial and antipruritic treatment and UV phototherapy. Furthermore, this part of the guideline covers techniques for avoiding provocation factors, as well as dietary interventions, immunotherapy, complementary medicine and educational interventions for patients with atopic eczema and deals with occupational and psychodermatological aspects of the disease. It also contains guidance on treatment for paediatric and adolescent patients and pregnant or breastfeeding women, as well as considerations for patients who want to have a child. A chapter on the patient perspective is also provided. The first part of the guideline, published separately, contains recommendations and guidance on systemic treatment with conventional immunosuppressive drugs, biologics and janus kinase (JAK) inhibitors, as well as information on the scope and purpose of the guideline, and a section on guideline methodology
