In the past few years there has been an increasing trend towards personalization in the TV world. IMS-based IPTV is a good example of a highly personalized IPTV architecture, featuring an advanced identity management subsystem. This article studies a next step in the personalization of the television experience: concurrent use of TV services that are supported by the IMSbased IPTV system. That is, multiple users using the same television set at the same or at different times, where each user as personalized interaction with the service and content. Our analysis of IMS-based IPTV use cases shows that current architectures were not designed with concurrent use in mind. However, we demonstrate that the combination of concurrent use and personalized TV services can yield interesting and viable use cases in the areas of interactive game shows, personalized electronic program guides and channel lists, and other. Finally, an analysis of the IMS-based IPTV system and architecture shows that it has all the ingredients to implement these new concurrent TV use cases, and that the main challenges will be in the area of usability. The article concludes that personalization and concurrency are not contradictory for television services, neither from a use case perspective, nor technologically. In particular, the IMS-based IPTV system is able to facilitate an enhanced and personalized experience to concurrent TV users

'In the beginning ...': on points of departure and understanding texts This article renders a contribution to the discussion on evolution from a theological point of view. It is interested in laying bare the epistemological points of departure that are reflected in studies related to the creation-evolution debate, especially those behind recent interpretations of Genesis 1 and 2. In an argument mirroring Ricoeur’s central thesis, examples of a first naïveté when reading the creation texts in the Bible are given. Next, a few examples of recent interpretations of the creation texts are given in order to indicate the present state of knowledge in the field. Lastly, one example is given in which these results were taken serious within a faith context, that led to what can be viewed as the development of a second naïveté

The purpose of this study is to examine the current situation of crime and service in South Africa and the various factors influencing it. Strategies and measures taken to address these problems are discussed. Data gathered shows crime rates as compared to the United States of America and major capitals throughout the world. This study shows the impact crime and bad service has had on the tourism industry in South Africa and the necessity to find and implement a holistic plan for the future. Most developing countries in the world are faced with similar issues that are impacting the success of the tourism industry as successful income provider. Current studies and crime prevention models are based on First World countries with economies and societies strong enough to combat crime successfully. The reality is that these strategies are not completely transferable to countries without the resources and infrastructure of their First World counterparts. Given the multitude of restraints and obstacles that South Africa is facing, some of the strategies currently employed that show some degree of success might be implemented and beneficial for other developing countries, as an alternative to current strategies in place

Totius se siening van die Calvinistiese digter as siener.*

In his lecture, De dichter als ziener (1911) Totius sees the Calvinist poet as a prophet and a seer who sees the invisible, who discovers profound truths in the mundance, everyday reality. Any object may be used as material, and the poet has to make a penetrating study of his surroundings. The deeper and more profound insights that the poet is able to record must be conveyed to his fellowment. The resulting work of art will then ultimately reflect the Divine in which it had its origin

Abstract: Mobile banking is beneficial in terms of saving time and money as well as convenience and efficiency. However, given its cybernetic nature and risks associated with its use, trust issues are created. Therefore, it is important that retail banks ensure that their mobile banking channel is trustworthy. As such, the purpose of this study was to establish whether Generation Y consumers of the major South African retail banks differ in their mobile banking trust. Following a descriptive and single cross-sectional research design, self-administered survey questionnaires were completed by a convenience sample of 334 Generation Y consumers. The data was analysed using descriptive statistics, reliability and validity measures, Pearson’s product-moment correlation analysis, collinearity diagnostics and one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA). The findings indicate that there are differences between Generation Y consumers of the major South African retail banks and perceived trust in mobile banking, the integrity of the mobile bank, mobile banking structural assurances as well as the information quality of mobile banking. Understanding the differences in mobile banking trust and its related dimensions amongst Generation Y consumers of the major South African retail banks, retail banks can strategise to allay these consumers’ trust concerns, foster greater trust in their mobile channels as well as gain a competitive advantage and maintain consumer loyalty amongst this cohort of consumers
