Diverse strategies for copper production in Chalcolithic Iberia
Our understanding of early copper metallurgy in the Iberian Peninsula is mostly based on analysis from wellstudied regions in the Southeast and Southwest. This paper focuses on two recently recovered Chalcolithic metallurgical assemblages outside these traditional research foci: two slagged crucibles from Lugar Viejo III (Zaragoza) and two large slag cakes from Cueva del Canaveralejo ˜ (Cordoba). ´ Analysis of the compositions and microstructures of the artifacts using optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy-energy dispersive spectroscopy (SEM-EDS) suggests they are related to primary copper production, namely smelting in cruciblefurnaces under relatively oxidizing conditions, as is standard for this period. The slag layers on crucibles from Lugar Viejo indicate the production of copper with minor amounts of arsenic, also typical for this period. Of special note is the use of organic temper in the crucibles from Lugar Viejo, a practice found at the nearby site of Moncín but rare at other sites in Iberia. However, the slags from Cueva del Canaveralejo ˜ are atypical in their large size (approx. 125 g each), fayalitic composition, unusual efficiency as demonstrated by a low copper content, and lack of arsenic; furthermore, the high sulfur content raises the possibility of the use of sulfidic ores. Results from both sites are compared against published data from well-known sites such as Los Millares, Las Pilas, Almizaraque, and Bauma del Serrat del Pont. The new data from Lugar Viejo and Cueva del Canaveralejo ˜ reinforce the interpretation of metallurgy in the Iberian Peninsula as a low-skilled, conservative technology but also indicate the need for more research into regional variations. A home and ambulatory artificial nutrition (NADYA) group report, home parenteral nutrition in Spain, 2013
Aim: to communicate the results of the Spanish Home Parenteral Nutrition (HPN) registry of the NADYA-SENPE group for the year 2013.
Material and methods: data was recorded online by NADYA group collaborators that were responsible of the HPN follow-up from 1st January to 31st December 2013.
Results: a total of 197 patients and 202 episodes of HPN were registered from 35 hospitals that represents a rate of 4,22 patients/million habitants/year 2013. The median age was 53 years (IQR 40 – 64) for 189 adult patients and 7 months (IQR 6 – 35,5) for children. The most frequent disease in adults was neoplasm (30,7%) followed by other diseases (20,1%) and mesenteric ischemia (12,7%). Short bowel syndrome and intestinal obstruction (25,9%) were in 35.7% cases the indications for HPN
Reproductive efficiency of sows inseminated at single dose fixed time with refrigerated, cryopreserved and encapsulated spermatozoa
4 Pág.
Departamento de Reproducción Animal (INIA)The aim was to assess the reproductive efficiency of different techniques used to preserve spermatozoa in artificial insemination semen doses (AI-doses) by evaluating refrigeration at 15°C, cryopreservation and encapsulation. Forty-two hyperprolific sows were treated with buserelin and inseminated once at a single fixed time. The fertility rate, embryonic vesicles viability and the early embryonic mortality (arrested conceptuses) evaluated post-mortem at 24th day of pregnancy, were analysed in order to assess the effectiveness of each proposed technique. Results show an overall reduction on fertility using the three proposal sperm preservation techniques (69.27%, 60.00% and 78.75% for refrigerated, frozen-thawed and encapsulated AI-doses, respectively). Total number of embryonic vesicles was very similar among the three treatments; yet, the number of viable vesicles was numerically different among groups, and thus, embryonic viability was 79.25%, 80.0% and 87.15% for refrigerated, frozen-thawed and encapsulated AI-doses, respectively.INIA project CON18-109, funded by the ‘Cinco Villas’ Artificial Insemination Center, Government of Aragon and European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development.Peer reviewe
Precise measurement of the top quark mass in the dilepton channel at D0
We measure the top quark mass (mt) in ppbar collisions at a center of mass
energy of 1.96 TeV using dilepton ttbar->W+bW-bbar->l+nubl-nubarbbar events,
where l denotes an electron, a muon, or a tau that decays leptonically. The
data correspond to an integrated luminosity of 5.4 fb-1 collected with the D0
detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. We obtain mt = 174.0 +- 1.8(stat)
+- 2.4(syst) GeV, which is in agreement with the current world average mt =
173.3 +- 1.1 GeV. This is currently the most precise measurement of mt in the
dilepton channel.Comment: 7 pages, 4 figure
Direct measurement of the mass difference between top and antitop quarks
We present a direct measurement of the mass difference between top and
antitop quarks (dm) in lepton+jets top-antitop final states using the "matrix
element" method. The purity of the lepton+jets sample is enhanced for
top-antitop events by identifying at least one of the jet as originating from a
b quark. The analyzed data correspond to 3.6 fb-1 of proton-antiproton
collisions at 1.96 TeV acquired by D0 in Run II of the Fermilab Tevatron
Collider. The combination of the e+jets and mu+jets channels yields dm = 0.8
+/- 1.8 (stat) +/- 0.5 (syst) GeV, which is in agreement with the standard
model expectation of no mass difference.Comment: submitted to Phys. Rev.
Measurement of the semileptonic charge asymmetry in B0 meson mixing with the D0 detector
We present a measurement of the semileptonic mixing asymmetry for B0 mesons,
a^d_{sl}, using two independent decay channels: B0 -> mu+D-X, with D- ->
K+pi-pi-; and B0 -> mu+D*-X, with D*- -> antiD0 pi-, antiD0 -> K+pi- (and
charge conjugate processes). We use a data sample corresponding to 10.4 fb^{-1}
of ppbar collisions at sqrt(s) = 1.96 TeV, collected with the D0 experiment at
the Fermilab Tevatron collider. We extract the charge asymmetries in these two
channels as a function of the visible proper decay length (VPDL) of the B0
meson, correct for detector-related asymmetries using data-driven methods, and
account for dilution from charge-symmetric processes using Monte Carlo
simulation. The final measurement combines four signal VPDL regions for each
channel, yielding a^d_{sl} = [0.68 \pm 0.45 \text{(stat.)} \pm 0.14
\text{(syst.)}]%. This is the single most precise measurement of this
parameter, with uncertainties smaller than the current world average of B
factory measurements.Comment: Version includes minor textual changes following peer review by

Measurements of single top quark production cross sections and |Vtb| in ppbar collisions at sqrt{s}=1.96 TeV
We present measurements of production cross sections of single top quarks in
\ppbar collisions at in a data sample corresponding
to an integrated luminosity of collected by the D0 detector
at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. We select events with an isolated electron
or muon, an imbalance in transverse energy, and two, three, or four jets, with
one or two of them containing a bottom hadron. We obtain an inclusive cross
section of \sigma({\ppbar}{\rargap}tb+X, tqb+X) = 3.43\pm^{0.73}_{0.74}\;\rm
pb and use it to extract the CKM matrix element at
the 95% C.L. We also measure \sigma({\ppbar}{\rargap}tb+X) =
0.68\pm^{0.38}_{0.35}\;\rm pb and \sigma({\ppbar}{\rargap}tqb+X) =
2.86\pm^{0.69}_{0.63}\;\rm pb when assuming, respectively, and
production rates as predicted by the standard model.Comment: 11 pages, 8 figures, submitted to Phys. Rev.
