    Get PDF

Póster presentado en el VII European/ I World Meeting in Visual and Physiological OpticsThe optical power of a thick spherical lens and its Coddington shape factor are essential magnitudes that characterize its image quality. We propose an experimental procedure and apparatus that allow accurate determination of those magnitudes for any spherical lens from geometrical measurements. It overcomes the drawbacks of other devices that need of the refractive index or may damage the lens surfaces, like spherometers, and provides similar results to commercial lensmeters. The authors acknowledge the projects BIA2011-22704, GV/2013/009 and PROMETEO/ 2011/021. Get PDF
The first example of a diazo palladium adduct is reported. The complexes [(ArNHC-PPh2) M(eta(N2C)-N-2(Ph) CO2Et)] (M = Ni, 3; M = Pd, 4; ArNHC-PPh2 = 3-(2,6-diisopropylphenyl)- 1-[(diphenylphosphino)ethyl] imidazol-2-ylidene) were prepared by ligand exchange with styrene-coordinated precursors [(ArNHC @ PPh2) M(styrene)] (M = Ni, 1; M = Pd, 2). Complex 4 was fully characterized, including X-ray analyses; this constitutes the first example of a diazo adduct compound with palladium, thereby closing the gap between Groups 8 and 10 regarding this type of compounds

A focal plane processor for continuous-time 1-D optical correlation applications

    Get PDF
This chapter describes a 1-D Focal Plane Processor, which has been designed to run continuous-time optical correlation applications. The chip contains 200 sensory processing elements, which acquire light patterns through a 2mm ×10.9μm photodiode. The photogenerated current is scaled at the pixel level by five independent 3-bit programmable-gain current scaling blocks. The correlation patterns are defined as five sets of two hundred 3-bit numbers (from 0 to 7), which are provided to the chip through a standard I2C interface. Correlation outputs are provided in current form through 8-bit programmable gain amplifiers (PGA), whose configurations are also defined via I2C. The chip contains a mounting alignment help, which consists of three rows of 100 conventional active pixel sensors (APS) inserted at the top, middle and bottom part of the main photodiode array. The chip has been fabricated in a standard 0.35μm CMOS technology and its maximum power consumption is below 30mW. Experimental results demonstrate that the chip is able to process interference patterns moving at an equivalent frequency of 500kHz.Junta de Andalucía 2006-TIC-2352Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación TEC2009-1181

Hyperpigmentation following Treatment of Frontal Fibrosing Alopecia

    Get PDF
Introduction: Frontal fibrosing alopecia (FFA) is a scarring alopecia characterized by progressive recession of the frontotemporal hairline. Current treatment is aimed at stopping progression, and the combination of dutasteride and pimecrolimus is the most effective therapy. Side effects associated with dutasteride are erectile dysfunction as well as breast tenderness and enlargement, while pimecrolimus produces a burning sensation. Case Report: We present a 57-year-old postmenopausal female with a 3-year history of a scarring alopecic plaque in her frontotemporal region. Biopsy confirmed the diagnosis of FFA, and she was started on dutasteride 0.5 mg p.o. q.d., and later, topical pimecrolimus 1% b.i.d. was added. Eight months after initiating treatment, she showed hyperpigmentation on her metacarpophalangeal and interphalangeal joints, as well as on the cheeks and on the chin; dutasteride and pimecrolimus were discontinued. After 5 months of follow-up, her hyperpigmentation improved by 80% only by using photoprotection. Conclusion: Because of the variable clinical course of FFA, treatment is focused on halting its progression. Several therapeutic agents have been evaluated and the combination of dutasteride and pimecrolimus has shown a high response rate. There is no reported evidence of hyperpigmentation associated with this combination

Shrinkage studies and optimization of multiplexed holographic lenses with high diffractive efficiency and wide angular response

Today, the advancement of optical systems that can harness clean and renewable energy sources is a major focus for researchers and innovators worldwide. As we strive to create a sustainable future, this challenge has become increasingly critical to our success. Fresnel lenses are widely used as traditional concentrators, but they have a small acceptance angle, and the reflective elements need continuous maintenance of the surface reflectivity. Transmitting Holographic Optical Elements (HOEs) are an alternative to conventional lenses because they are more economical and versatile. Their material is usually a flexible photopolymer so that the optical element can be attached to different types of support, depending on whether one type of handling is required or another, and they tend to have low weight and volume, as well as a simple way of manufacturing. In addition, also provide an extended focusing area which helps to protect solar cells from heating damage. A theoretical and experimental study on the shrinkage of multiplexed holographic lenses (MHL) that were stored in a low-toxicity photopolymer was carried out. To accomplish the study, a K-space tool was used. Furthermore, an optimization analysis of the angular distance between peaks was performed. To determine efficiency, an evaluation of the short-circuit current under solar illumination with varying incident reconstruction angles was done. This research was funded by Universidad de Alicante (UAFPU20-23); Generalitat Valenciana (CIDEXG/2022/60, IDIFEDER/2021/014, PROMETEO/2021/006); Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación (PID2019-106601RB-I00, PID2021-123124OB-I00)

Development of high efficiency and wide acceptance angle holographic solar concentrators for breakthrough photovoltaic applications

    Get PDF
Solar concentrator systems represent an important challenge in our society for outstanding photovoltaic (PV) applications. Fresnel lenses or parabolic mirrors concentrate sunlight in a small solar cell surface. On the one hand, Fresnel lenses have an exceedingly small acceptance angle and require expensive tracking systems to follow the path of the Sun. On the other hand, conventional parabolic mirrors need periodic maintenance of the surface reflectivity. Holographic optical elements (HOEs) represent a suitable alternative to Fresnel lenses and solar reflectors, they are cheaper and more versatile. Particularly, multiplexed holographic solar concentrators (HSCs) give an insight into promising possibilities for Building-Integrated Concentrating PV (BICPV). A good trade-off between wide acceptance angle and high diffraction efficiency represents an important milestone in the area. Our research group obtained the higher acceptance angle in a multiplexed HSC design (Morales et. al. Opt. Express 30, 25366 (2022)). This design was composed of seven holographic multiplexed lenses in Biophotopol material with thick thickness, 197 μm. In the present work, more efficient holographic solar concentrators than previous works are shown. As far as we know, it has been obtained the best trade-off between high efficiency and wide acceptance angle HSC-PV solar cell systems.Generalitat Valenciana (CIDEXG/2022/60, IDIFEDER/2021/0.14, PROMETEO/2021/006); Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación (PID2019-106601RB-I00; PID2021-123124OB-I00); Universidad de Alicante (UAFPU20-23)

A new series of perylene and hemicoronene diimides, obtained by visible light photocyclization, are presented, between them some remarkable examples that are soluble in only water, and give nanoparticles by selfassociation. Those compounds work as new fluorescent materials in water by complexation with cucurbit[7] uril, as well as selective G-quadruplex binding ligands with remarkable cytotoxic activity when the interaction with G4 was sufficiently strong. We acknowledge the Ministerio de Ciencia, Innovación y Universidades-FEDER (Grants PID2019-111215RB-100 and RTI2018- 102040-B-100), the Junta de Castilla y León, Consejería de Educación y Cultura y Fondo Social Europeo (Grants BU263P18 and BU305P18), “la Caixa” Foundation (LCF/PR/PR12/11070003) for financial support.
