    Con este trabajo se pretenden concretar los distintos emplazamientos que ha tenido el Gobierno Civil de Zaragoza en esta ciudad desde la creación de esa institución a comienzos del siglo XIX. De hecho, su sede estuvo instalada en inmuebles destinados a otras funciones o en edificios ya existentes, no contando con un edificio propio hasta el año 1958, en la plaza de Nuestra Señora del Pilar. Su emplazamiento ha estado vinculado a lo largo de ese período al desplazamiento de los centros de poder y a su manifestación urbana

    En este Trabajo de Fin de Grado estudiamos el conjunto de paneles de Visión de España, pintados por Joaquín Sorolla y Bastida (1863-1923) entre 1913 y 1919. Este artista valenciano cultivó a lo largo de su vida diferentes géneros. El mayor éxito de su trayectoria pictórica llegó cuando expuso en ciudades como París y Londres, y en esta última conoció al coleccionista Archer Milton Huntington, quien le encargó para la Hispanic Society de Nueva York este ciclo pictórico sobre las regiones de España, que se convirtió en la obra cumbre de su vida. En él representó la España tradicional de acuerdo con los planteamientos del regionalismo que imperaba en aquellos momentos y que trataba de plasmar “la esencia de España”

    Geographical variations in the risk of adverse birth outcomes in Spain

    The objective of this study was to describe the spatial risk-patterns of prematurity and low birth weight in Spain. A descriptive spatial analysis of births registered in the Spanish Vital Statistics during 2004–2008 using municipalities as the observation unit was carried out. Besag-York-Mollié autoregressive spatial models were adjusted using the Integrated Nested Laplace approximation to calculate relative risks and posterior probabilities of having very and moderate preterm or low weight newborns. Results were represented in maps to assess geographic risk-patterns. Spatial analysis shows geographical variations in the risk of adverse reproductive outcomes in Spain highlighting three main high-risk zones, namely, municipalities in Asturias, Madrid City and Murcia. The specific risk patterns identified on each zone suggests some differences regarding the potential underlying risk factors and specific areas for future research. A differential exposure during pregnancy to some risks potentially related to industry or agriculture and other contextual factors could underlie an unequal vulnerability to adverse reproductive outcomes in some Spanish regions.Fondo de Investigación Sanitaria (PI081330); Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation (SEJ 2005/07679); CIBER en Epidemiología y Salud Pública (CIBERESP), Spain.S

    Nrf2 Plays a Protective Role Against Intravascular Hemolysis-Mediated Acute Kidney Injury

    Massive intravascular hemolysis is associated with acute kidney injury (AKI). Nuclear factor erythroid-2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) plays a central role in the defense against oxidative stress by activating the expression of antioxidant proteins. We investigated the role of Nrf2 in intravascular hemolysis and whether Nrf2 activation protected against hemoglobin (Hb)/heme-mediated renal damage in vivo and in vitro. We observed renal Nrf2 activation in human hemolysis and in an experimental model of intravascular hemolysis promoted by phenylhydrazine intraperitoneal injection. In wild-type mice, Hb/heme released from intravascular hemolysis promoted AKI, resulting in decreased renal function, enhanced expression of tubular injury markers (KIM-1 and NGAL), oxidative and endoplasmic reticulum stress (ER), and cell death. These features were more severe in Nrf2-deficient mice, which showed decreased expression of Nrf2-related antioxidant enzymes, including heme oxygenase 1 (HO-1) and ferritin. Nrf2 activation with sulforaphane protected against Hb toxicity in mice and cultured tubular epithelial cells, ameliorating renal function and kidney injury and reducing cell stress and death. Nrf2 genotype or sulforaphane treatment did not influence the severity of hemolysis. In conclusion, our study identifies Nrf2 as a key molecule involved in protection against renal damage associated with hemolysis and opens novel therapeutic approaches to prevent renal damage in patients with severe hemolytic crisis.
