A new key to neotropical species of the genus Bazzania, based on the descriptions by Fulford (1946, 1963), is provided. A list of the treated species is added

Responder Identification in Clinical Trials with Censored Data

    Get PDF
We present a newly developed technique for identification of positive and negative responders to a new treatment which was compared to a classical treatment (or placebo) in a randomized clinical trial. This bump-hunting-based method was developed for trials in which the two treatment arms do not differ in survival overall. It checks in a systematic manner if certain subgroups, described by predictive factors do show difference in survival due to the new treatment. Several versions of the method were discussed and compared in a simulation study. The best version of the responder identification method employs martingale residuals to a prognostic model as response in a stabilized through bootstrapping bump hunting procedure. On average it recognizes 90% of the time the correct positive responder group and 99% of the time the correct negative responder group

Chromogranin A in the pancreatic islet

    Get PDF
Chromogranin A (CGA) is the major soluble protein within secretory vesicles of chromaffin cells. A polyclonal antiserum was raised against bovine CGA and characterized in two-dimensional immunoblots. Cellular and subcellular distribution of CGA in bovine pancreatic islet was investigated by immunocytochemistry. At the light microscopic level, CGA-like immunoreactivity was found in the same cells that react with antibodies against insulin, glucagon, and somatostatin. A minority of cells containing pancreatic polypeptide also showed faint immunostaining. At the ultrastructural level (protein A-gold technique), CGA-like immunoreactivity was confined exclusively to the secretory vesicles. Whereas the hormones were localized mainly in the central part of the secretory vesicles, CGA was present predominantly in the periphery. These findings indicate that a CGA-like protein is a regular constituent of the matrix of secretory vesicles in pancreatic endocrine cells

Distribution of Tree Canopy-Level Vegetation in Mandiangin Hill, Banjar Regency

    Get PDF
The high diversity of tree species at various height levels indicates that there may still be many unidentified tree species, making it unclear how the distribution and abundance of the tree community's structure are. The ULM Special Purpose Forest Area (KHDTK ULM) covers an area of 1,617 hectares. The KHDTK ULM includes several regions such as Bukit Besar, Bukit Mandiangin, Bukit Pamaton, and Bukit Pandamaran, each with different elevations. Research on the structure of the tree community at Bukit Mandiangin is necessary for the preservation of germplasm in the KHDTK ULM. The objectives of this research are (1) to assess the presence of tree species at different elevations, (2) to analyze the distribution and abundance of tree species at different elevations, and (3) to analyze the diversity, evenness, and similarity of tree species communities at different elevation

EuroSpine Task Force on Research: support for spine researchers

    Get PDF
In recognition of the value of research to the practice of spine care, Federico Balagué and Ferran Pellisé, at the time President and Secretary for EuroSpine, asked Margareta Nordin to set up a Task Force on Research (TFR) for EuroSpine during summer 2011. The concept was to stimulate and facilitate a research community within the society, through two main functions: (1) distribution of EuroSpine funds to researchers; (2) develop and deliver research training/education courses. What has the EuroSpine TFR accomplished since its inception

This thesis deals with technology of Rapid prototyping and its application at foundry industry. It is split into two parts. There are basic priciples of selected methods of Rapid prototyping technology discussed in the first part. Second part is focused on direct and indirect production of foundry molds, including application methods of Rapid prototyping.
