Automatic real-time interpolation of radiation hazards: prototype and system architecture considerations

Detecting and monitoring the development of radioactive releases in the atmosphere is important. In many European countries monitoring networks have been established to perform this task. In the Netherlands the National Radioactivity Monitoring network (NRM) was installed. Currently, point maps are used to interpret the data from the NRM. Automatically generating maps in realtime would improve the interpretation of the data by giving the user a clear overview of the present radiological situation and provide an estimate of the radioactivity level at unmeasured locations. In this paper we present a prototype system that automatically generates real-time maps of radioactivity levels and presents results in an interoperable way through a Web Map Service. The system defines a first step towards a emergency management system and is suited primarily for data without large outliers. The automatic interpolation is done using universal kriging in combination with an automatic variogram fitting procedure. The focus is on mathematical and operational issues and on architectural considerations on how to improve the interoperability and portability of the prototype system

Familiale Pflege: Herausforderung für eine Reform der Pflegeversicherung, Perspektiven für eine bessere Versorgung!

Auch nach nahezu 30 Jahren Pflegeversicherung und Pflegereformen ist es nur in Teilbereichen gelungen, für pflegebedürftige Menschen ein qualitativ überzeugendes Versorgungsangebot aufzubauen, das von ihnen auch angenommen wird. Zu fragen ist, entsprechen die bestehenden Angebote überhaupt den Erwartungen und Wünschen von Pflegebedürftigen an ihre Versorgung? Die zu erläuternde Antwort lautet, dass bei vielen ein Wunsch nach einer „familialen“ Pflege besteht, der von den etablierten Pflegeangeboten (u.a. Pflegeheime und Pflegedienste) in der Regel nicht erfüllt werden kann. Für die Zielsetzung dieser Arbeit bedeutet das, sie wird Vorschläge zur Erweiterung des vorherrschenden Angebotsspektrums aufzeigen müssen, um daraus Empfehlungen für eine Reform der Pflegeversicherung ableiten zu können. ____________________ Even after almost 30 years of long-term care insurance and long-term care reforms, it has only been possible in some areas to build up a qualitatively convincing care offer for people in need of care, which is also accepted by them. The question is therefore whether the existing offers (including nursing homes and nursing services) correspond at all to the expectations and wishes of people in need of care? The answer to be explained is that many have a desire for "family" care, which can usually not be fulfilled by the established care offers. For the objective of this work, this means that it will have to present proposals for expanding the prevailing range of services in order to be able to derive recommendations for a reform of long-term care insurance

MCDA stakeholder workshops

Within the CONFIDENCE project, comprehensive methods have been developed for better support of decision making under uncertain conditions, mainly by use of Multi Criteria Decision Analysis (MCDA). While MCDA in general was available for use in the radiological crisis management community, no method of analysing uncertain conditions and supporting robust decision making under these conditions was available. During the CONFIDENCE project, the existing MCDA tool was improved and enhanced to deal with these requirements. For providing solid and reliable decision support for such a situation as a radiological emergency, the evaluation of decision-support tools by the stakeholders and their feedback is important, especially when considering their heterogeneous background caused by e.g. living in different countries. Therefore, several stakeholder panels in different countries were organized to include the end users’ opinions and to assure the usability of the final tool

Calibration of Plastic Phoswich Detectors for Charged Particle Detection

The response of an array of plastic phoswich detectors to ions of $1\le Z\le 18$ has been measured from $E/A$=12 to 72 MeV. The detector response has been parameterized by a three parameter fit which includes both quenching and high energy delta-ray effects. The fits have a mean variation of $\le 4\%$ with respect to the data.Comment: 17 pages, 5 figure

Search for DCC in 158A GeV Pb+Pb Collisions
