Fatigue properties of duplex stainless steel

The samples had to be tested and the results have to be compared with the theory, studied before. Six specimens have been broken by tensile fatigue testing machine in order to get more knowledge about the lifetime and the behavior under dynamic stress and not only for welded parts. Out of this new knowledge a new fatigue curve for this material could be created

The ICES Working Group on Oceanic Hydrography:A bridge from in-situ sampling to the remote autonomous observation era

The ICES (International Council for the Exploration of the Sea) Working Group on Oceanic Hydrography (WGOH) was established in the late 1970's with the aim of gathering experts in physical oceanography to provide regular science-based assessments of the North Atlantic hydrographical condition (basically termohaline fields). From the beginning, the WGOH has relied on repeated long-term in-situ sampling at key sites around the North Atlantic, the Nordic Seas and adjacent shelf seas. An annual Report on Ocean Climate (IROC), produced by the WGOH since the late 1990's, summarizes trends in regional hydrography and identifies patterns linking these changes across the North Atlantic. Regional analyses are prepared by local experts who are directly involved in the monitoring programs responsible for collecting data presented in the report. An interactive webpage created in 2013 allows users to browse and download data that inform the IROC. Within the last two decades the physical oceanography community has evolved quickly incorporating technological advances such as autonomous devices into classical in-situ sampling programs. The WGOH has embraced such technological developments without diverting focus from ongoing in-situ long-term monitoring programs. Having longstanding experience synthesizing data and expertise from a large number of operational programs spanning an extensive international footprint, the WGOH has a unique perspective to offer the global ocean observing community. Here we discuss how we might foster connections with ICES to benefit the GOOS (Global Ocean Observing System) community

Comparative evaluation of a novel, moderately hypofractionated radiation protocol in 56 dogs with symptomatic intracranial neoplasia

BACKGROUND: Use of strongly hypofractionated radiation treatments in dogs with intracranial neoplasia did not improve outcomes and yielded increased rates of toxicosis. OBJECTIVES: To evaluate safety and efficacy of a new, moderately hypofractionated radiation protocol of 10 × 4 Gy compared to a standard protocol. ANIMALS: Convenience sample of 56 client-owned dogs with primary symptomatic brain tumors. METHODS: Retrospective observational study. Twenty-six dogs were assigned to the control standard protocol of 20 × 2.5 Gy (group A) and 30 dogs to the new protocol of 10 × 4 Gy (group B), assigned on owners' informed consent. Statistical analysis was conducted under the "as treated" regime, using Kaplan-Meier and Cox-regression analysis. Treatment was delivered with technically advanced image-guided radiation therapy. The 2 treatment groups were compared in terms of outcome and signs of toxicosis. RESULTS: Overall progression-free interval (PFI) and overall survival (OS) time were favorable, with 663 (95%CI: 497;828) and 637 (95%CI: 403;870) days, respectively. We found no significant difference between the two groups: PFI for dogs in group A vs B was 608 (95%CI: 437;779) days and mean (median not reached) 863 (95%CI: 644;1083) days, respectively (P = .89), and OS for dogs in group A vs B 610 (95%CI: 404;816) and mean (median not reached) 796 (95%CI: 586;1007) days (P = .83). CONCLUSION AND CLINICAL IMPORTANCE: In conclusion, 10 × 4 Gy is a safe and efficient protocol for treatment of primary intracranial neoplasia and future dose escalation can be considered

Les usages iconographiques de l'assassinat d'Henri IV au XIXe siècle

National audienceThe abundance of the iconography on the murder of Henri IV shows that the memory of the regicide of the first Bourbon king is very present in the XIXth century. The pictures of the 1610 drama are analyzed from a double corpus: book illustrations and paintings exposed in the official Salons. Succeeding the monarchic period during which the vision of stabbed king is banished, this production of images shows a pronounced taste for the representation of the regicide between 1859 and 1894, in connection with the attacks against the heads of state. The representation of the location of the murder, the victim, the violence of the murderous gesture and the reaction of witnesses underline the horror of the "terrorist" violence and demonstrate the necessity of maintaining law and order.L'abondance de l'iconographie sur l'assassinat d'Henri IV montre que la mémoire du régicide du premier Bourbon est très présente au XIXe siècle. Les mises en scène du drame de 1610 sont analysées à partir d'un double corpus : illustrations de livres d'histoire et tableaux exposés aux Salons. Succédant à la période monarchique pendant laquelle la vision du roi poignardé est bannie, cette production d'images montre un goût prononcé pour la représentation du régicide entre 1859 et 1894, en lien avec l'actualité politique des attentats contre les chefs d'Etat. Résultats au bout de 9 ans d'une plantation expérimentale de sapin de Céphalonie dans les Alpes de Haute Provence

Le sapin de Céphalonie est une espèce potentielle de reboisement et des provenances utilisables en région méditerranéenne française ont été identifiées. Toutefois son utilisation pose encore des problèmes liés à la production des plants en pépinière, à la transplantation et aux techniques d'introduction. L'article décrit une plantation expérimentale en forêt domaniale de Pélicier à Manosque (04). Les facteurs expérimentaux pris en compte sont : - l'ombrage en plantation (les plantations ont été faites soit en plein découvert, soit dans des bandes déboisées) ; - la date de plantation. L'effet de l'abri latéral provoqué par les bandes est très important à la fois sur les taux de reprise et en tant que protection vis-à-vis du gel
