The Influence of the Length of the Instructional Day on the Percentage of Proficient and Advanced Proficient Scores of the New Jersey Assessment of Skills and Knowledge for Grades 6, 7, and 8.
This study was relational, non-experimental, explanatory, and cross-sectional in nature, using quantitative methods to explain the influence of student, staff, and school independent variables on 6th, 7th, and 8th grade student achievement in both Language Arts and Mathematics on the 2011 NJ ASK. The variable of interest was the length of the instructional day and controlled student, staff, and school variables. This study provides descriptive research on the relationship between the length of the instructional day and other predictor variables and student achievement. The study used approximately 200 schools for each grade level and subject area combination. The percentage of students eligible for free and reduced lunch (%FRL) was found to be the strongest predictor on the 2011 NJ ASK Language Arts and Mathematics for Grades 6, 7, and 8 in this study. Student attendance was also found to be a statistically significant predictor of the percentage of students scoring Proficient and Advanced Proficient on the NJ ASK Language Arts and Mathematics for Grades 6, 7, and 8. There is no statistically significant relationship between the length of the instructional day and the percentage of students Proficient and Advanced Proficient on the NJ ASK Language Arts and Mathematics scores for Grades 6, 7, and 8

Secondary prevention lifestyle interventions initiated within 90 days after TIA or 'minor' stroke: a systematic review and meta-analysis of rehabilitation programmes
Background Strokes are often preceded by a transient ischaemic attack (TIA) or ‘minor’ stroke. The immediate period after a TIA/minor stroke is a crucial time to initiate secondary prevention. However, the optimal approach to prevention, including non-pharmacological measures, after TIA is not clear.
Aim To systematically review evidence about the effectiveness of delivering secondary prevention, with lifestyle interventions, in comprehensive rehabilitation programmes, initiated within 90 days of a TIA/minor stroke. Also, to categorise the specific behaviour change techniques used.
Design and setting The review identified randomised controlled trials by searching the Cochrane Library, Ovid MEDLINE, Ovid EMBASE, Web of Science, EBSCO CINAHL and Ovid PsycINFO.
Method Two review authors independently screened titles and abstracts for eligibility (programmes initiated within 90 days of event; outcomes reported for TIA/minor stroke) and extracted relevant data from appraised studies; a meta-analysis was used to synthesise the results.
Results A total of 31 potentially eligible papers were identified and four studies, comprising 774 patients post-TIA or minor stroke, met the inclusion criteria; two had poor methodological quality. Individual studies reported increased aerobic capacity but meta-analysis found no significant change in resting and peak systolic blood pressure, resting heart rate, aerobic capacity, falls, or mortality. The main behaviour change techniques were goal setting and instructions about how to perform given behaviours.
Conclusion There is limited evidence of the effectiveness of early post-TIA rehabilitation programmes with preventive lifestyle interventions. Further robust randomised controlled trials of comprehensive rehabilitation programmes that promote secondary prevention and lifestyle modification immediately after a TIA are needed
Radio Emission from SN 1994I in NGC 5194 (M 51) - The Best Studied Type Ib/c Radio Supernova
We present the results of detailed monitoring of the radio emission from the
Type Ic supernova SN 1994I from 3 days after optical discovery on 1994 March 31
until eight years later at age 2927 days on 2002 April 05. The data were mainly
obtained using the Very Large Array at the five wavelengths, 1.3, 2.0, 3.6,
6.2, and 21 cm, and from the Cambridge 5 km Ryle Telescope at 2.0 cm. Two
additional measurements were obtained at millimeter wavelengths. This data set
represents the most complete, multifrequency radio observations ever obtained
for a Type Ib/c supernova. The radio emission evolves regularly in both time
and frequency and is well described by established SN emission/absorption
models. It is the first radio supernova with sufficient data to show that it is
clearly dominated by the effects of synchrotron self-absorption at early times.Comment: 43 pages, 5 figure

The GALEX Ultraviolet Atlas of Nearby Galaxies
We present images, integrated photometry, surface-brightness and color
profiles for a total of 1034 nearby galaxies recently observed by the GALEX
satellite in its far-ultraviolet (FUV; 1516A) and near-ultraviolet (NUV; 2267A)
bands. (...) This data set has been complemented with archival optical,
near-infrared, and far-infrared fluxes and colors. We find that the integrated
(FUV-K) color provides robust discrimination between elliptical and
spiral/irregular galaxies and also among spiral galaxies of different
sub-types. Elliptical galaxies with brighter K-band luminosities (i.e. more
massive) are redder in (NUV-K) color but bluer in (FUV-NUV) than less massive
ellipticals. In the case of the spiral/irregular galaxies our analysis shows
the presence of a relatively tight correlation between the (FUV-NUV) color and
the total infrared-to-UV ratio. The correlation found between (FUV-NUV) color
and K-band luminosity (with lower luminosity objects being bluer than more
luminous ones) can be explained as due to an increase in the dust content with
galaxy luminosity.

Design, Performance, and Calibration of CMS Hadron-Barrel Calorimeter Wedges
Extensive measurements have been made with pions, electrons and muons on four production wedges of the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) hadron barrel (HB) calorimeter in the H2 beam line at CERN with particle momenta varying from 20 to 300 GeV/c. Data were taken both with and without a prototype electromagnetic lead tungstate crystal calorimeter (EB) in front of the hadron calorimeter. The time structure of the events was measured with the full chain of preproduction front-end electronics running at 34 MHz. Moving-wire radioactive source data were also collected for all scintillator layers in the HB. These measurements set the absolute calibration of the HB prior to first pp collisions to approximately 4%
Energy Response and Longitudinal Shower Profiles Measured in CMS HCAL and Comparison With Geant4
The response of the CMS combined electromagnetic and hadron calorimeter to beams of pions with momenta in the range 5-300 GeV/c has been measured in the H2 test beam at CERN. The raw response with the electromagnetic compartment calibrated to electrons and the hadron compartment calibrated to 300 GeV pions may be represented by sigma = (1.2) sqrt{E} oplus (0.095) E. The fraction of energy visible in the calorimeter ranges from 0.72 at 5 GeV to 0.95 at 300 GeV, indicating a substantial nonlinearity. The intrinsic electron to hadron ratios are fit as a function of energy and found to be in the range 1.3-2.7 for the electromagnetic compartment and 1.4-1.8 for the hadronic compartment. The fits are used to correct the non-linearity of the e pi response to 5% over the entire measured range resulting in a substantially improved resolution at low energy. Longitudinal shower profile have been measured in detail and compared to Geant4 models, LHEP-3.7 and QGSP-2.8. At energies below 30 GeV, the data, LHEP and QGSP are in agreement. Above 30 GeV, LHEP gives a more accurate simulation of the longitudinal shower profile
