    Implementación de la metodología “clase invertida” en la asignatura Electrónica de Potencia

    Las metodologías docentes han presentado siempre una evolución constante. Tanto es así, que en las últimas décadas, y con la ayuda de la evolución tecnológica, ha aparecido una cantidad considerable de ellas. La metodología “Flipped Classroom” o “Clase Invertida” se propone como la opción para la enseñanza de la asignatura Electrónica de Potencia, que forma parte del módulo de formación específica del Grado en Ingeniería Electrónica Industrial de la Universidad de Málaga. Esta metodología se centra en la adquisición de conocimientos teóricos previos a la clase, reservando la misma a reforzar los conocimientos adquiridos, con un enfoque más práctico. La metodología “Clase Invertida” es una de las más populares en los últimos años. Como su nombre indica, el papel del docente y el del alumno se invierten en cierto modo, llevando la parte teórica de la asignatura fuera del aula, centrando el trabajo en clase en reforzar los conocimientos adquiridos; es decir, el alumno aprende antes de clase lo que se va a reforzar en la misma. Esta metodología puede dividirse en tres fases: -Trabajo previo a la clase -Trabajo en la clase -Trabajo posterior a la clase Así, atendiendo a las bases de la metodología, el trabajo principal que se realiza es la creación del material previo a la clase. Para ello se graban 15 vídeos que abarcan todos los contenidos teóricos que los alumnos deben asimilar.     Atypical modulations of N170 component during emotional processing and their links to social behaviors in ex-combatants

    ABSTRACT: Emotional processing (EP) is crucial for the elaboration and implementation of adaptive social strategies. EP is also necessary for the expression of social cognition and behavior (SCB) patterns. It is well-known that war contexts induce socio-emotional atypical functioning, in particular for those who participate in combats. Thus, ex-combatants represent an ideal non-clinical population to explore EP modulation and to evaluate its relation with SCB. The aim of this study was to explore EP and its relation with SCB dimensions such as empathy, theory of mind and social skills in a sample of 50 subjects, of which 30 were ex-combatants from illegally armed groups in Colombia, and 20 controls without combat experience. We adapted an Emotional Recognition Task for faces and words and synchronized it with electroencephalographic recording. Ex-combatants presented with higher assertion skills and showed more pronounced brain responses to faces than Controls. They did not show the bias toward anger observed in control participants whereby the latter group was more likely to misclassify neutral faces as angry. However, ex-combatants showed an atypical word valence processing. That is, words with different emotions yielded no differences in N170 modulations. SCB variables were successfully predicted by neurocognitive variables. Our results suggest that in ex-combatants the links between EP and SCB functions are reorganized. This may reflect neurocognitive modulations associated to chronic exposure to war experiences

    Radiation-induced Assembly of Rad51 and Rad52 Recombination Complex Requires ATM and c-Abl

    Cells from individuals with the recessive cancer-prone disorder ataxia telangiectasia (A-T) are hypersensitive to ionizing radiation (I-R). ATM (mutated in A-T) is a protein kinase whose activity is stimulated by I-R. c-Abl, a nonreceptor tyrosine kinase, interacts with ATM and is activated by ATM following I-R. Rad51 is a homologue of bacterial RecA protein required for DNA recombination and repair. Here we demonstrate that there is an I-R-induced Rad51 tyrosine phosphorylation, and this induction is dependent on both ATM and c-Abl. ATM, c-Abl, and Rad51 can be co-immunoprecipitated from cell extracts. Consistent with the physical interaction, c-Abl phosphorylates Rad51 in vitro and in vivo. In assays using purified components, phosphorylation of Rad51 by c-Abl enhances complex formation between Rad51 and Rad52, which cooperates with Rad51 in recombination and repair. After I-R, an increase in association between Rad51 and Rad52 occurs in wild-type cells but not in cells with mutations that compromise ATM or c-Abl. Our data suggest signaling mediated through ATM, and c-Abl is required for the correct post-translational modification of Rad51, which is critical for the assembly of Rad51 repair protein complex following I-R

    Predictive phage therapy for Escherichia coli urinary tract infections: cocktail selection for therapy based on machine learning models

    This study supports the development of predictive bacteriophage (phage) therapy: the concept of phage cocktail selection to treat a bacterial infection based on machine learning models (MLM). For this purpose, MLM were trained on thousands of measured interactions between a panel of phage and sequenced bacterial isolates. The concept was applied to Escherichia coli (E. coli) associated with urinary tract infections. This is an important common infection in humans and companion animals from which multi-drug resistant (MDR) bloodstream infections can originate. The global threat of MDR infection has reinvigorated international efforts into alternatives to antibiotics including phage therapy. E. coli exhibit extensive genome-level variation due to horizontal gene transfer via phage and plasmids. Associated with this, phage selection for E. coli is difficult as individual isolates can exhibit considerable variation in phage susceptibility due to differences in factors important to phage infection including phage receptor profiles and resistance mechanisms. The activity of 31 phage were measured on 314 isolates with growth curves in artificial urine. Random Forest models were built for each phage from bacterial genome features and the more generalist phage, acting on over 20% of the bacterial population, exhibited F1 scores of >0.6 and could be used to predict phage cocktails effective against previously untested strains. The study demonstrates the potential of predictive models which integrate bacterial genomics with phage activity datasets allowing their use on data derived from direct sequencing of clinical samples to inform rapid and effective phage therapy.Significance Statement With the growing challenge of antimicrobial resistance there is an urgency for alternative treatments for common bacterial diseases including urinary tract infections (UTIs). Escherichia coli is the main causative agent of UTIs in both humans and companion animals with multidrug resistant strains such as the globally disseminated ST131 becoming more common. Bacteriophage (phage) are natural predators of bacteria and potentially an alternative therapy. However, a major barrier for phage therapy is the specificity of phage on target bacteria and therefore difficulty efficiently selecting the appropriate phage. Here, we demonstrate a genomics driven approach using machine learning prediction models combined with phage activity clustering to select phage cocktails based only on the genome sequence of the infecting bacterial strain

    Photometric Observations Constraining the Size, Shape, and Albedo of 2003 El61, a Rapidly Rotating, Pluto-Sized Object in the Kuiper Belt

    We present measurements at optical wavelengths of the spectral reflectance, rotational light curve, and solar phase curve of 2003 EL61. With apparent visual magnitude 17.5 at 51 AU from the sun, this newly discovered member of the classical Kuiper Belt is now the third brightest KBO after Pluto and 2005 FY9. Our observations reveal an unambiguous, double-peaked rotational light curve with period 3.9154 +/- 0.0002 hours and peak to peak amplitude 0.28 +/- 0.04 mag. This is the fastest rotation period reliably determined for any body in the solar system larger than 100 km. Assuming the body has relaxed over time to the shape taken by a homogenous fluid body, our observations tightly constrain the shape and density. Given the mass we recently determined for 2003 EL61 from the orbit of a small satellite, we also constrain the size and albedo. We find a total length of 1960 to 2500 km, a mean density of 2600 to 3340 kg m-3, and a visual albedo greater than 0.6. We also measure a neutral reflectance at visible wavelengths and a linear phase curve with slope varying from 0.09 mag deg-1 in the B band to 0.13 mag deg-1 in the I band.
