An extracellular polygalacturonase [EC 3.2.1.15], named PG-543, was purified from the culture of Geotrichum candidum IEV 543, a phytopathogenic fungi isolated from infected lemon. The molecular mass of the enzyme was estimated to be 26 kDa by SDS-PAGE. The pH optimum determined was 5.5; the enzyme showed high stability in the pH range between 4.0 and 6.0. The temperature optimum was 37 ºC. Furthermore, a proteinaceous inhibitor of the polygalacturonase (PG) named PGIP was isolated from lemon albedo. This protein was able to maintain the inhibitory activity in a wide range of pH and temperature. The maximal interaction between PG-PGIP was reached after 20 min of contact. PGIP did not show toxic effect on Artemia salina in the concentration range that was active on PG enzyme. Also, the proteinaceous inhibitor did not show mutagenic nor phytotoxic effects. Our results suggest that, the PGIP isolated from lemon could be used as a natural product to decrease the propagation of pathogenic fungi responsible for postharvest diseases in citrus by the inhibition of hydrolytic enzymes secreted by pathogens.Fil: Rodriguez, Ivana Fabiola. Get PDF
Purpose: Research shows Millennials learn better by actively doing things than listening to lectures. However, there is little research on millennials and how they learn or what drives them towards success. The purpose of this study was to investigate the preferred learning styles of undergraduate college students and their perception of academic success. Methods: Data collection included quantitative and qualitative measures that were used to collect data from a convenience sample of 344 undergraduate college students in a rural southeast regional university. Study was IRB approved prior to data collection. Data were analyzed using appropriate descriptive statistics, cross-tabulations, and coding of qualitative data. Results: Findings indicated that 35.4% of the 344 participants self-reported as kinesthetic (hands-on) learners compared to visual (23.6%), auditory (17%), and read/write (24%) learners. Findings also revealed that only 12.9% of the participants “spend 3 or more hours a day outside of class studying; 34% “ask for help when they do not understand something in class”; 41.1% “feel comfortable approaching professor for extra help” and 60.6% “prefer a teacher who incorporates hands-on activities with lecture.” Millennials in this study defined academic success as (1) establishing effective learning habits, (2) attending class regularly to maintain consistent performance, (3) achieving academic goals, and (4) making good grades. Conclusion: Incorporating kinesthetic activities in the classroom setting will positively enhance learning outcomes and academic success of millennial college students

Background Mass spectrometry (MS) are a group of a high-throughput techniques used to increase knowledge about biomolecules. They produce a large amount of data which is presented as a list of hundreds or thousands of proteins. Filtering those data efficiently is the first step for extracting biologically relevant information. The filtering may increase interest by merging previous data with the data obtained from public databases, resulting in an accurate list of proteins which meet the predetermined conditions. Results In this article we present msBiodat Analysis Tool, a web-based application thought to approach proteomics to the big data analysis. With this tool, researchers can easily select the most relevant information from their MS experiments using an easy-to-use web interface. An interesting feature of msBiodat analysis tool is the possibility of selecting proteins by its annotation on Gene Ontology using its Gene Id, ensembl or UniProt codes. Conclusion The msBiodat analysis tool is a web-based application that allows researchers with any programming experience to deal with efficient database querying advantages. The aim of this study was to evaluate the efect of diferent gloves and clinical environment on the contamination of resinmatrix composites for restorative dentistry. Specimens of nano-hybrid resin-matrix composite (n=6) were divided in groups regarding the handling with (A) clinical spatula; (B) latex gloves; (C) latex or (D) nitrile gloves with human saliva; (E) latex or (F) nitrile gloves with human blood. After light curing, groups of specimens were analyzed by optical microscopy at magnifcation ranging from x30 up to x500 and by scanning electron microscopy at diferent magnifcation ranging from x50 up to x8000. Handling of resin-matrix composites with unpowdered nitrile gloves or clinical spatulas avoided the presence of contaminants. However, agglomerates of the resin-matrix composite itself became entrapped leading to a heterogenous morphological aspect. SEM images revealed the presence of corn-derived starch released from the powdered gloves. Also, the formation of micro-spaces (voids) occurred after handling with powdered latex gloves. Specimens handled with both type of gloves contaminated with saliva showed a conditioning layer composed of glycoproteins rolls and compounds including calcium-based chlorides, phosphates, and carbonates. Also, blood products were transferred from the contaminated gloves to the resin-matrix composites after handling. Thus, resin-matrix composite restorations are susceptible to contamination with debris from powdered gloves. Also, saliva or blood debris become adsorbed and entrapped in the resin-matrix composites during clinical handling leading to the presence of defects such macro- and micro-scale voids or contaminant agglomerates.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

    Get PDF
Credit score models are instruments that generate ratings according to the credit history and behavior of the individual, these are used by financial entities to characterize their clients. Which help in making the decision to grant a loan, preventing losses from being generated due to non-compliance by their clients. The Banking Superintendence of Colombia, now the Financial Superintendence of Colombia, through External Circular Letter 11 and Circular Letter March 31, 2002, developed a new credit risk management mechanism for that entity supervised by means of the Administration System. of credit risk (SARC). The objective of this system is to strengthen the measurement and control of credit risk, exposing the freedom for each of the financial entities to develop their own models to mitigate this aforementioned risk. The objective of this work is the elaboration of a credit score model given the qualitative and quantitative characteristics of a person's life, focusing on the years 2018 and 2019, using population-type information, provided in the quality of life survey (ECV).) carried out annually by the National Administrative Department of Statistics (DANE) applying the principal components methodology as a statistical tool, which seeks to minimize variability from a linear combination. However, this methodology does not allow calculating probabilities of occurrence of default, while the purpose of this document is to make a proposal not only to minimize the variance but also to try to generate an approximation to a credit score measurement. From the application of said methodology, it was evidenced that on average the population has similar characteristics in the years 2018 and 2019, being mostly women, who know how to read and write, with an average educational level of basic primary. For its part, income is the variable that presents the greatest variation, ranging from 190,000to190,000 to 710,000 approximately for the year 2018 and from 275,000to275,000 to 1,030,000 for the following year. On the other hand, it was determined through the development of the transition matrix, that the majority of the population worsened in their credit quality as they passed from one year to the next
