El estudio de la magia en la Antigüedad tardía: Algunas consideraciones prácticas

This article takes a look at the approaches to the study of magic in Late Antiquity. The partial analysis of a magical figure (King Solomon) makes possible to extract new indications for a better understanding of magic and its role in the Mediterranean oikoumene, and suggests the necessity of a better categorization of the magical disciplines. These indications should be taken into account for the study of magic and magical mentality in any cultural setting of Late Antiquity.This article takes a look at the approaches to the study of magic in Late Antiquity. Se traza la evolución y origen de la fórmula desde el siglo I en 11QPsa, Testamento de Salomón, Preguntas de San Bartolomé, en contextos exorcísticos, para estudiar después su utilización en obras de autores occidentales (Dante, Marlowe, Shakespeare, Calderón de la Barca, Tirso de Molina, Quevedo, Vélez de Guevara, Goethe y Mann).In the following pages, we will analyze and study an exorcistic formula (Who are you?) in some works of Western Literature. We show its origin and development in Late Antiquity from the first century CE in works such as 11QPsa, Testament of Solomon, Questions of Saint Bart h o l o m e w in exorcistic settings in order to study afterwards its presence in literary works of authors such as Dante, Marlowe, Shakespeare, Calderón de la Barca, Tirso de Molina, Quevedo, Vélez de Guevara , Goethe and Thomas Mann

RESUMEN: Aunque se haya afirmado que el judaísmo conoció exclusivamente la incubatio en su variante más antigua, la mántico-adivinatoria, en nuestro trabajo intentamos ofrecer algunas reflexiones acerca del recurso a esta praxis con finalidades curativas en proximidad o en el interior de una sinagoga, circunstancia aludida por Juan Crisóstomo en un locus que ha pasado desapercibido o cuya exegesis por parte de los investigadores no resulta unívoca.ABSTRACT: The Jews as Experts in Therapeutic Practices in the Late Ancient World: Enkoimesis and other Magical Rituals.– Israel first and Early Judaism afterwards did practice a sort of incubation that focused on divination. The Hymn of the Pearl is a short poem that is found in two manuscripts of the apocryphal Acts of Thomas. It tells the story of a young prince of the East, sent by his fathers in search of a precious pearl that is protected by a serpent in Egypt. In this paper, we offer an introduction to the text as well as an annotated Spanish translation of the Syriac and Greek version in columns. The synopsis of both the original texts and their Spanish translation shows the points of contact between them and emphasizes the difficulties of interpretation.El Himno de la Perla es un breve poema interpolado en dos manuscritos del apócrifo Hechos de Tomás. Narra el viaje de un joven príncipe oriental hacia Egipto en busca de una perla de gran valor, guardada por una serpiente, cuya posesión le elevará en el reino de sus padres, y las vicisitudes de esa búsqueda. En este artículo se ofrece una introducción en la que se detalla la historia de la investigación, los textos originales siriaco y griego y una traducción española anotada dispuesta en columnas paralelas. De esta manera se destaca la relación entre las dos versiones, así como las dificultades y oscuridades que el poema presenta
