With this study, ascorbic acid and erythorbic acid were used for the first time to prevent melanosis in shrimp. Three shrimp species (Aristaeomorpha foliacea, Plesionika edwardsi and Melicertus hathor) were used. It was determined that melanosis scores were higher in the control groups. Combination of ascorbic acid and erythorbic acid with metabisulphite was found to be more effective in inhibiting of melanosis than the application alone. No significant differences were found between the groups in terms of TVB-N values. The TMA-N value of the control group was significantly higher than those of application groups. Ascorbic acid, Erythorbic acid and their combinations with sodium metabisulphite were found effective on inhibition of melanosis and quality changes in three shrimp species. Keywords: reducing agents; ascorbic acid; erythorbic acid; melanosis; quality; shrimp

The aim of this study is to evaluate the forgiveness and psychological resilience of the pre-service teachers in the department of physical education and sports in sports education and psychology according to different variables. The study group consisted of 479 university students studying in Kahramanmaras, Gaziantep, Burdur, Denizli and Mersin during the 2017-2018 academic year. Gender in the personal information form, the team or individual sports and the personal information form prepared for the department were used as data collection tools of the study. The short psychological resilience scale developed by Smith et al. (2008) and adapted to Turkish by Dogan (2015) was used to determine the psychological stability levels of the study group. The Affinity Scale Developed by Berry et al. (2005); adapted to Turkish by Akin, Gediksiz and Akin (2012) was used in the study to evaluate the forgiveness of the research group. The data were analyzed by using SPSS Statistics 22.0 package program, Pearson Product Moment Correlation, ANOVA, Tukey multiple comparison and t test method. As a result of the research, a positive and low correlation was found between psychological resilience and forgiveness. Between gender and forgiveness, girls' scores were found more meaningful and higher than those of males. No significant meaningful correlation between psychological resilience and forgiveness level of the students engaged in team and individual sports was found. When the participants were examined in terms of the department they studied, no relationship with psychological stability was found. When the participants were examined in terms of the department they studied, the scores of the students of the coaching department were found to be higher in the forgiveness than those of the physical education and sports teacher

A stochastic programming approach to resource-constrained assignment problems

    Get PDF
We address the resource-constrained generalizations of the assignment problem with uncertain resource capacities, where the resource capacities have an unknown distribution that can be sampled. We propose three stochastic programming-based formulations that can be used to solve this problem, and provide exact and approximate solution techniques for the resulting models. We also present numerical results for a large set of numerical problems. The results indicate that the solutions obtained using the stochastic programming approaches perform significantly better than those obtained using expected values of capacities in a deterministic solution strategy. In addition, stochastic-programming-based approximations are computationally as efficient as deterministic techniques

Posttraumatic True Aneurysm of the Axillary Artery Following Blunt Trauma

    Get PDF
The majority of the axillary artery aneurysm cases arise as pseudoaneurysms secondary to blunt or iatrogenic trauma. Isolated traumatic true axillary artery aneurysm is a relatively unusual disorder and generally occurs with repetitive blunt trauma. A 22-year-old female patient with distal axillary artery true aneurysm due to simple blunt axillothoracic trauma is presented. The aneurysm was excised with subpectoral-axillary approach and saphenous vein graft interposition was applied. Long-term follow-up with the patient was uneventful

Heart rate turbulence analysis in female patients with fibromyalgia

OBJECTIVE: Fibromyalgia is characterized by diffuse musculoskeletal pain and discomfort. There are several reports regarding autonomic nervous system dysfunction in patients with fibromyalgia. Heart rate turbulence is expressed as ventriculophasic sinus arrhythmia and has been considered to reflect cardiac autonomic activity. Heart rate turbulence has been shown to be an independent and powerful predictor of sudden cardiac death in various cardiac abnormalities. The aim of this study is to determine whether heart rate turbulence is changed in female patients with fibromyalgia compared with healthy controls. METHODS: Thirty-seven female patients (mean age, 40±11 years) with fibromyalgia, and 35 age- and sex-matched healthy female control subjects (mean age, 42±9 years) were included. Twenty-four hours of ambulatory electrocardiography recordings were collected for all subjects, and turbulence onset and turbulence slope values were automatically calculated. RESULTS: The baseline clinical characteristics of the two groups were similar. There were no significant differences in turbulence onset and turbulence slope measures between patients and control subjects (turbulence onset: −1.648±1.568% vs. −1.582±1.436%, p ϝ 0.853; turbulence slope: 12.933±5.693 ms/RR vs. 13.639±2.505 ms/RR, p ϝ 0.508). Although body mass index was negatively correlated with turbulence slope (r ϝ −0.258, p ϝ 0.046), no significant correlation was found between body mass index and turbulence onset (r ϝ 0.228, p ϝ 0.054). CONCLUSION: To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study to evaluate heart rate turbulence in patients with fibromyalgia. It appears that heart rate turbulence parameters reflecting cardiac autonomic activity are not changed in female patients with fibromyalgia

Objective: In the present study it was aimed to determine the in vitro antileishmanial activity of Berberis vulgaris L. against Leishmania  tropica promastigotes. The aerial parts of Berberis vulgaris were collected from Spil Mountain, Manisa. Method: The ethanolic extract of the plant material was prepared. The consecutive concentrations of the plant extract (25-100µg/ml) were set for in vitro antileishmanial assays. In addition to in vitro inhibitory activities against Leishmania tropica promastigotes, the cytotoxicity of the plant extract was also measured by WST-1 Cell proliferation assay. The percentages of parasite inhibition in the presence of B. vulgaris ethanol extract in comparison with glucantime reference group at time interval of 12-72 hours were observed between 88.0 and 100.0 %. The plant extract was found to have cytotoxic activity with 444, 81±2, 12 µg/ml IC50 value. Conclusion: This is the first study that involves the in vitro antileishmanial activity of B. vulgaris which is wildly growing in Manisa, Turkey. Initial results demonstrated that the ethanolic extract of B. vulgaris gave promising results and it could be used as an antileishmanial agent in future.                   Peer Review History: Received 1 August 2019;   Revised 15 August; Accepted 3 September, Available online 15 September 2019 Academic Editor: Dr. Amany Mohamed Alboghdadly, Princess Nourah bint abdulrahman university, Riyadh, [email protected] UJPR follows the most transparent and toughest ‘Advanced OPEN peer review’ system. Background: Coronary occlusion techniques during OPCAB may lead to an endothelial damage to the target vessel. The adverse effects of these techniques are well-known, and researches have been trying to find out new materials to occlude the coronary artery without an endothelial damage. In the present study, we investigate to the endothelial damage in the rat aorta which is occluded by Poloxamer 407 gel. Methods: Forty-five rats were randomized in three groups: (1) segment of the aorta was occluded with Poloxamer 407 gel in P 407 group; (2) segment of the aorta was occluded with microvascular clamp in MV clamp group; and (3) no onclusion was available in the Control group. The rats were sacrificed of observation, and a 15mm segment of the aorta was obtained as a specimen. Integrity of the endothelial lining was observed with a scanning electron microscopy. Results: Scanning electron microscopy revealed a statistically significant difference among the 3 groups (p<0,001) using the SPSS 13.0 test. No difference was found between the Control group and the P 407 group (p=0,059). The differences between MV clamp-Control group (p<0,001) and MV clamp-P 407 group were statistically significant (p<0,002). Conclusions: We suggest that Poloxamer 407 gel occlusion may be a safer and more effective method compared to the microvascular clamp occlusion

Effects of quotas on Turkish foreign trade: a gravity model

As stated by a European Union Commission Report (2009), Turkey's role as a world trade participant has grown in recent years, particularly as the country has been capitalizing more on its unique geopolitical position. Given the substantial trade volume and deep-rooted relations between Turkey and the EU, due attention should be paid to their trade and economic relations, and steps should be taken to improve these relations. Turkey is the biggest economy that is in a Customs Union (CU) with the EU, but not a member of the EU, along with Andorra, Monaco, and San Marino. When it joined the CU in 1996, Turkey removed all customs duties and equivalent charges as well as quantitative restrictions. However, some EU countries impose quota limits on Turkish road transporters that may indirectly restrict trade between Turkey and the country in question. This study has investigated the effect of road-transport quotas on Turkish foreign trade with EU countries. A gravity model estimated using panel data from 18 selected EU countries between 2005 and 2012 was used for this purpose. Furthermore, as one of the leading sectors using road transportation for Turkish exports to EU countries, the textile sector was analyzed as a case study. The results indicated that quotas have significant effects on total Turkish exports by road transport as well as Turkish textile exports to EU countries. The estimated loss of Turkish exports to the selected countries in the time period analyzed was 10.6 billion dollars of Turkey's total exports by road transport and 5.65 billion dollars of Turkey's total textile exports. Therefore, it can be concluded that the quota limitations are against CU regulations because they limit not only road transportation, but also trade between parties
