    Orthocentric Systems in Minkowski Planes

A new way to define the notion of \C-orthocenter will be displayed by studying some propierties of four points in the plane which allows to extend the notion of Euler's line, the Six Point Circles and the three-circles theorem, for normed planes. In the present paper (which can be regarded as extention of \cite{M-WU} in Minkowski plane in general) we derive several characterizations of the Euclidianity of the plane.Comment: 14 pages, 7 figure

Time-series regression models to study the short-term effects of environmental factors on health

    Get PDF
Time series regression models are especially suitable in epidemiology for evaluating short-term effects of time-varying exposures on health. The problem is that potential for confounding in time series regression is very high. Thus, it is important that trend and seasonality are properly accounted for. Our paper reviews the statistical models commonly used in time-series regression methods, specially allowing for serial correlation, make them potentially useful for selected epidemiological purposes. In particular, we discuss the use of time-series regression for counts using a wide range Generalised Linear Models as well as Generalised Additive Models. In addition, recently critical points in using statistical software for GAM were stressed, and reanalyses of time series data on air pollution and health were performed in order to update already published. Applications are offered through an example on the relationship between asthma emergency admissions and photochemical air pollutants in Madrid for the period 1995-1998, of how these methods are employed.Time-series; Poisson; GLM; GAM; autocorrelation; overdispersion; air pollution

Articulating the indignation of the Catalan people: Populist traits in the Candidatura d’Unitat Popular (CUP)

First, the article analyses the success of the CUP by placing the party in what is deemed a competition of populisms in recent years in Catalonia. As such, the nationalist movement is described as a catalyst for populist ideas in Catalonia. Specifically, it will be argued that the presence the party has had in the political panorama of Catalonia can be explained by the way in which Catalan nationalism has been expressed as a nationalism of rupture. This kind of populist language is also similar to that of the Spanish party Podemos, whose lasting effect on leftist discourse puts a certain pressure on the traditional anti-capitalist narrative. In this light, the article argues that the CUP offers a radical alternative which finds its normative foundation in the Catalan people, and that precisely by insisting on the leftright dichotomy it has, to a certain extent, been able to absorb the discontent of many Catalan

Evaluation of the lockdowns for the SARS-CoV-2 epidemic in Italy and Spain after one month follow up

From the end of February, the SARS-CoV-2 epidemic in Spain has been following the footsteps of that in Italy very closely. We have analyzed the trends of incident cases, deaths, and intensive care unit admissions (ICU) in both countries before and after their respective national lockdowns using an interrupted time-series design. Data was analyzed with quasi-Poisson regression using an interaction model to estimate the change in trends. After the first lockdown, incidence trends were considerably reduced in both countries. However, although the slopes have been flattened for all outcomes, the trends kept rising. During the second lockdown, implementing more restrictive measures for mobility, it has been a change in the trend slopes for both countries in daily incident cases and ICUs. This improvement indicates that the efforts overtaken are being successful in flattening the epidemic curve, and reinforcing the belief that we must hold on.Peer reviewe

Mining the social semantic Web for making cross-domain recommendations

This is an electronic version of the paper presented at the Fifth BCS-IRSG Symposium on Future Directions in Information Access, held in Granada on 2003Cross-domain recommender systems filter and suggest items in a target domain by exploiting user preferences and/or domain knowledge available in a (likely related) source domain. In our research we are developing a framework for cross-domain recommendation capable of mining heterogeneous sources of information available in the so-called Social Semantic Web, such as semantically annotated data, user generated contents, and contextual signals

Money as an indicator for inflation and output in Chile - not anymore?

This paper identifies the information content of monetary aggregates for output and inflation in Chile, using a large set of reduced-form statistics and regression specifications. Unlike almost all previous studies on money in Chile, we compare 10 traditional and new definitions of money, rather than just looking at the customary definition M1A. Also, given the changes in the financial system and disinflation in Chile over the last 20 years, as well as contrasting growth rates of GDP and narrow money in recent times, we report recursive estimations for all our statistics to highlight parameter constancy. While there seems to be a strong and often one-to-one association between money growth and inflation on average over the whole sample as indicated by Nelson (2003) type regressions, the relation drops strongly during the last 10 years, and thus seems much lower in times of low inflation. Also, an increase in nominal money growth never causes acceleration of inflation in a Granger sense. However, we do find a significant and positive impact of deviations from (an estimated or HP-filtered) equilibrium level of money holdings on inflation, as indicated by error-correction and Pstar models. But the deviations from a simple estimated equilibrium are very large for both broad money aggregates and M1A at the end of the sample, casting some doubt on the stability of their demand relation. Accordingly, cointegration tests for the existence of a stable demand for money function over the whole sample are somewhat inconclusive. We find a strong Granger causality relationship between money and output, which however vanishes once we control for the effect of past inflation and changes in the monetary policy rate. Also, the information in lags of M1A for GDP drops strongly towards the end of the sample. More generally, M1A does not seem to merit its role as the money sum par excellence in Chile, being inferior in information content for example to Notes and Coin, or a broad money sum excluding bonds (M7 minus Central Bank documents).

Economic effects of bilateral trade agreements: China, United States, European Union and Japan

Economic integration and international trade among different regions are analysed in this study. It describes recent history and explains a theoretical framework of economic integration. It focuses in Mega-Regional Trade Agreements, more specifically in the biggest ones, TTIP (Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership) and TPP (Trans-Pacific Partnership), both of them still under negotiation. These agreements involve the most important economies in the world such as the European Union (formed by 28 countries), United States which is member of both, and Japan. However, China is not a member of any of them and doesn’t seem to be in the near future, but it is a really relevant country and economy in the world. This report analyses which opportunities China should take not to be left behind regarding international trade. Three hypothetical alternatives are developed where China joins US, EU and Japan separately eliminating its tariff barriers with each of them under three different scenarios or degrees of liberalization. Potential economic and trade effects that those agreements will cause for the Chinese economy are analysed specially focusing on welfare, tariff revenue change, trade creation and trade diversion.Enpresen Administrazio eta Zuzendaritzan Nazioarteko Graduatua / Ekonomian Nazioarteko Graduatua Nafarroako Unibertsitate Publikoan (Nazioarteko Programa)Graduado o Graduada Internacional en Administración y Dirección de Empresas / Graduado o Graduada Internacional en Economía por la Universidad Pública de Navarr
