Using Freshwater Mussels as an Indicator for River Water Quality

Using the freshwater mussel to monitor water quality is a practical and advantageous way to use nature’s indicator species. River water quality is an important measurement that is constantly monitored for many purposes. The sampling involved with monitoring can be very costly and time-consuming. Using mussels as indicator species could save money and time. So, this project has been dedicated to exploring the applications and reality of using freshwater mussels to monitor river quality

EXAMINING A RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN SEXUAL SATISFACTION AND CHILD MALTREATMENT

Child maltreatment is prevalent despite extensive research informing interventions. While many risk factors have been identified, exploring additional determinants may improve existing methods or reveal better alternatives. This study’s basis was family systems theory, and it utilized the post-positivist paradigm to explore the topics of relationship fulfillment, sexual satisfaction, and parenting. Qualitative interviews with five heterosexual, cisgender parents born between 1971 and 1991 (average age 39-40) revealed four main themes: participants\u27 childhood/parental relationships, history of abusive relationships, current sex life, and role balancing between relationships and parenting. Although limited by a small sample size and a specialized population (social work students at one university), the data suggests a potential link between sexual satisfaction and parenting style. This was particularly evident in unhealthy relationships as participants tended towards harsher discipline or overprotection. Quantitative analysis of larger and more diverse populations is necessary to determine this assumption’s validity

Mental planes

2014 Spring.Includes bibliographical references.My works are mental planes in which I chart the accounts and associations I have with textiles and patterned objects. Each piece is a direct consequence of being raised within a family of industrial textile manufactures that produced fabrics for fashion, food, and bio-medical science industries. While I do not know the technicalities that exist within the process of designing and creating fabric-based materials and ornamentations, my daily exposure to the industrial craft has instilled an inherent sensibility for textiles and related objects of pattern that I come in contact within my daily encounters. Painting in an abstract manner that mimics collage, I incorporate the synthetic, the flat, and the vagaries within representational forms. This encourages intentional ambiguity within synthesized spaces, causing the viewer to struggle and grasp to make a connection. The viewers are invited into the puzzle to create their own narratives of place and time
